Staff was callous and rude…read more It was incredibly hot outside, so I decided to sit inside with in the air conditioning, rather than sit in my car and do a drive-up. The staff was saying, "I don't understand why ANYONE would come inside when they could just wait in their car," clearly aimed at me, being as I was the only one sat inside. I could not see my cat during the exam, so I was unable to ask questions or see how she was doing. The vet brought her back to me, said she's quite sick, and will be back with a treatment plan. I was hopeful. That treatment plan? Euthanasia. I went to Anamosa Vet Clinic for a second opinion and they did all they could to help my baby, and yet only charged me 1/3rd of the price VCA charged me just to run a few tests and shove me out the door. A door they apparently didn't want me use to begin with. The people who work here are cold, callous, and clearly don't have compassion for animals or people. With so many wonderful vets nearby, I don't understand why ANYONE would come here.

There's a large waiting area so always room to go to a separate area if need be. Dr. Murphy is FABULOUS! I went with a problem for my dog, and she gave me multiple options. She did not push anything the practice offered. I was able to go home and do some research before I made a decision with which route I wanted to go and she was completely understanding of that and even told me if I had questions with what I found or any other ideas to shoot her an email and she'd be happy to let me know her opinion or an alternative! Each time I've seen her, she always takes time to answer questions, does not make me feel rushed or like I'm asking pointless questions. The vet techs are great too. They are always so patient with my sometimes less than cooperative pups!

And, they misspelled my name. The story: My little 10# dog had her 2nd dental by Dr Tabor. When I got her home she started crying, a wet cough and runny nose. I called the office and was told that I could pick up pain medicine in the morning. It was 330PM. I had to carry and walk her for 12 hours while she cried and coughed. I won't write about the calls back and forth. When Dr Tabor finally called she let me know that there was nothing that could've been done to prevent/alleviate my dog's suffering. Not acceptable. I have had 11 of my own and 6 foster dogs in 3 states. No dental has been like this.

A Dane Heeler his name is Stormy but I call him Smalls he was found under a bridge downtown. I thank God for him everyday. He came just in time my service dog Wishbone was almost done done. Within 2 weeks Wishbone was gone and Stormy had to step up for duty before training even started. Smalls hit a home run! His hart is bigger than he's ever gunna get. Safe, sound, and resting peacefully (Pictured below in her favourite spot). Note: We were able to snag someone's cancellation by calling on Monday. Otherwise, it appears appointments are a month + out as of 3/2022. Intake was amazing as staff met everyone coming in that day at the door and assisted with initial paperwork. Our kitty was just past her follow-up shot regimen for rabies and distemper, which the clinic provided at a minimal cost. Overall, our bill was just over 90$ which included nail trimming/capping (10$), shots, spaying, pain medication, overnight stay, as well as a microchipping fee (25$). This is far, far less then the range of prices we were quoted at other local animal veterinarian/hospitals. (Anywhere from 250$ to 1050$, just to *spay* alone.) Although a bit of a drive for those living in Hiawatha/Marion/North CR, the cost and level of care make it worth your time. If you choose to utilize IHA for your pet healthcare needs, please be sure to add a little extra when you pay to help keep this local non-profit going.

Animal Care Hospital got me in within just a day or two. Everyone was pleasant and I got what I needed. The second time, there was some miscommunication about some charges for wellness exams that weren't disclosed on the reminder email/cards and weren't disclosed when I made the appointment or during the appointment. I was upset about it when I checked out and let my displeasure be known when I got their "How did we do?" email a couple days later. But the owner contacted me personally and made it right. He was so kind and considerate despite my very frustrated email to them and the fact that I missed the first voicemail he sent because my phone crapped out and had to be reset. I didn't get it until two weeks later and felt terrible about it. I like leaving great reviews for great service because I think good experiences go unnoticed and unacknowledged most of the time. So even though the second office visit wasn't like the first, I still must give them credit, especially on the owner level, for being considerate, etc. So if you're looking for a good vet and need prompt service, call them. I would just make sure you clarify when wellness exams are needed and ask for the information upfront when you make the appointment.

So far my two dogs that are 7 years old now have never went anywhere else for veterinarian care. With cost rising for veterinarian care, surgically I may have to go somewhere else, but these people will always be the ones that care for my dogs on a regular basis.
