Absolute -ly disappointed. I ordered and paid for a very specific BF FIE Epee weapon and paid extra for a cover (one of the reasons I got it from them vs. their competitor) to ensure that it would be protected both in shipping and in the fencing bag. They shipped it without the cover and with no protective packaging in the box, and then REFUSED to ship the missing cover and would only refund the price of the cover not ship what I ordered (that requires a weapon purchase). They acknowledge that it was their error that they omitted the cover, and they then had the audacity to tell me to buy ANOTHER weapon ($300+) in order to get them to ship the $6 item they forgot to ship. I asked 3 times in writing to make sure that they understood I did NOT want a refund, just wanted them to complete the original order, and they ignored it. So you can be assured that IF they make a mistake, they will not make it right - and that tells you a lot about a business. I'll take my money elsewhere in the future. read more

So after 30+ years of armoury at club-national-international events I can not recommend Absolute for two reasons. 1) my Apple password system indicates that both my personal and club account passwords were in a data leak. I received no notice from Absolute which is not professional on a vendor's part. 2) they recently sent a small order by UPS and since it was an international order the duties and shipping was over 63% of the equipment purchase price. my advice is deal elsewhere, you don't need the aggravation. read more

Like Blue Gauntlet, Absolute Fencing offers their own brand of fencing gear that won't break the bank. I was looking to upgrade my all-cotton uniform that I purchased when I was just starting out to something a little more comfortable when someone recommended AF's FIE line. They're superb-- extremely comfortable and offers more protection that I expected. Their Elite Stretch 350N line is also a great value if you're looking for something cheaper but I'd still recommend the FIE gear as it should last you for a long time (plus it's approved for competitions). Amazing customer service and reliable brand!

Absolutely Avoid! Sure, Absolute Fencing's prices may beat out their competitors, but what you save in initial costs is more than compensated for in frequency of orders. The gear is cheaply made and breaks frequently, or sometimes doesn't work at all. To put it bluntly: Absolute's stuff is Absolute Garbage. In the past year, I've purchased two epees. Within months of each purchase, the tip became wobbly and too loose to use. If I were to purchase a third epee, I'd have shelled out in excess of $150 for three weapons ($180 if you count delivery charges) with a cumulative working life of 9 months, whereas I could have spent the same amount of money with a competitor for an epee that could be used for much longer. Absolute Junk. Now, you might ask: Why don't you just buy a new blade and replace it yourself? Well, a standard electrical epee is $53 and a standard electrical epee blade is $37. For someone who doesn't have the equipment or technical skills to replace a blade properly, and for someone whose club can't provide that service (meaning you'll have to pay someone else to help you), that $16 difference means: "Just get the new weapon". Absolutely Absurd. There's also the matter of the ridiculously high delivery charge. I want to get a cheap $11 glove from them? Oops, gotta pay a $9.50 delivery fee, effectively doubling your costs. Now let's say I want to get four foils and two epees. You pay a comparatively reasonable $15 delivery fee. Hey Absolute - if you're trying to entice me to make a bigger order, then maybe don't make your money-grubbing THAT obvious. Absolute Nonsense. Buying from Absolute Fencing is a waste of money. You get shoddy products for barely competitive prices with a seemingly arbitrary delivery fee. Are you ordering for a student club with beginners? Sure, Absolute is fine, but don't expect your equipment or members to last long. Are you ordering for an individual with an expectation of gear lasting more than year? Absolutely look elsewhere. And so, in summation - Absolute Fencing Gear? Absolutely Not! read more

Did you know that AFGear sizing does not use industry standards ? They quote sizes for pants using the 'outside' pant waist dimension and not the standard practice of using the 'inside' waist dimension that circumscribes the wearers waist. If you have this sizing issue AFGear charges you for return shipping and for the shipping to correct their error. Not a customer friendly approach considering they do not follow industry standards. read more

My boyfriend and I both recently started fencing and needed to pick up our own equipment to take our training to the next level. I happened to be up at my parents' house in NJ so we decided to go to Absolute Fencing, since that was who was recommended by several members of our fencing club. While the shop is small and you would miss it if you weren't actively looking for it, the customer service is incredible. When we walked in, we explained we had just started fencing epee and both wanted to get the epee starter sets (which were $250). The woman who helped us was attentive and explained everything we needed and got with the starter set. The first thing she did was get our (electronic) weapons started with our choice of grip, since it takes about 30 minutes to do. While they were in the back making the weapons she properly sized us for our full uniforms and didn't make a hard push to upgrade anything. It was a pleasure to work with her. I have also ordered from them online. The shipping costs are a bit high, but from NJ to DC it's usually only 1 to 2 days for even ground shipping. They are incredibly fast. All of my equipment will be coming from AF! Added on edit: I will say that we have started to experience somethings with Absolute that have me a bit worried. Weapons in particular have had some issues upon removing them from the box. For example, one right handed epee arrived with a left handed bell guard. Despite request for the weapon to come competition ready (after the August 2013 rules changes - freed wires from the channels, wrapped correctly around the posts from the outside) they did not. The most recent issue was instead of cutting the tang to get the right length to attach the grip they just filled the gap with a series of washers. The work is getting sloppy and I might have to find a different source for my weapons, although their uniforms are still good quality. read more

If your into fencing, this store has EVERYTHING you need! If they don't have it they can get it for you. Best of all, their prices are better than anything you can find on the internet and as good or better quality. My son needed an outfit for his HS epee fencing team. Abigail helped him select a great assortment of stuff. She directed me to a package and gave me 15% off the price! They have pretty much all the gear you will need at various quality levels so I am not sure why anyone would have a problem with their quality. read more

I ordered 6 practice fencing foils for use in a stage combat unit in my Theater class. Because this is a new program with no budget, I needed something that was useful but not expensive. I searched Amazon and EBay, but both offered single selections from multiple businesses. I could never order more than one product until I found Absolute Fencing Gear. The foils were $25 each, which was $5 cheaper than every other product I found. The tax-free purchasing process was quick and painless. The customer service was excellent. I was notified with a tracking number within a few hours, and the swords took five days to arrive in Houston, TX. When the product arrived, everything was in excellent shape. This was horrible service. I ordered fencing shoes from here, and they came in and were way too big. So, I called them and asked if I could exchange them. Although it is just a simple change, they would not take the shoes back. Most definitely not buying from here again. I have no idea what to do with the shoes, since they were sooo expensive and during the pandemic this is just so inconvenient. I called multiple times, and they will not take the shoes back. We went there today because my son needed a new sabre lame and electric lame, parts for his sabre, a new electric glove, etc. We were ify about what sizes, etc we needed, and they were so helpful. Place is small, usually packed on weekends. Staff is pretty knowledgeable. Fencing equipment is expensive, quality has been good so far.

I ordered a lame from here for my daughter for Christmas. We received it without getting a phone call prior to them shipping the lame which they said they would do. When it arrived it was too small. They refused to discuss the problem with me. The person who answered phone says they are not the owner of the store and to call back but when I do call back I get the same thing. This is the last time I buy from AFG. Brought a pair of Nike Zoom about a month ago, the rubber has started to peel. Contact them with the issue and was asked to send in picture and order number. Did that, and then silence.... Reply to the email one more time after three weeks. So far, silence..... This to me is bad customer service. Just give me some excuse or something. I have made several purchases from this company and have never been disappointed. I am most impressed with the speed of orders placed. I recently placed an order for tip screws and other small items on a Tuesday evening and they arrived at my door by Thursday afternoon (with regular shipping option). This is an important feature since many people are ordering items needed for upcoming tournaments, etc. They obviously can't control the speed of the delivery service, but the fact that within an hour they had my items ready to ship shows outstanding customer service and a knowledge if customer needs. From the awfully long and complex delivery, to the poor quality of the items, to items arriving damaged, Absolute Fencing Gear is the absolute worst. I ordered the deluxe saber set and their was an issue with almost everything I ordered. First, the saber arrived sticking out of the box, bent, completely unusable. In addition, all of the items felt cheap and uncomfortable, and almost nothing fit, even though I had thoroughly followed the size guide. Lastly, they use FedEx, meaning the product took very long to arrive, and there were several issues with shipping (several failures to deliver). Such awesome customer service and really good quality gear. The shipping is also quick. I pay a premium for ordering from and shipping to Canada, but it's worth it. Their manager, Lewis, went above and beyond when I not only made a mistake on my order, but he helped me get the correct piece of equipment and saved me money in doing so. I ordered two foil blades and asked for pistol grip blades. The answer was to check the website, which I had already done. On their site it just listed the length of the hilt, and the short length match my pistol grip foil. Both blades did fit my my pistol grip, but they had different dimensions, and one was very heavy and slow. I measured them at the bell guard and one was 0.423" x 0.370", while the other was 0.323" x 0.285"! No wonder seemed so heavy and slow. They both had the same part number marked on the blades. I suspect this is cheap Chinese stuff, since this is typical for them. Very disappointing. I suppose they will not accept a return for the mounted blade. read more

My son and I came here to outfit ourselves for fencing. We are relative newcomers to the sport AND we arrived pretty close to closing time so I was afraid we would either get rushed or blown off. Neither happened. Well, we WERE serviced and got out of there very quickly but at no point did we feel rushed or pushed. They set us up with everything we needed, made sure everything fit properly, and made sure that we had the best options for US based on our circumstances. There was no push to upsell or get us to buy stuff they knew we didn't need. We left there very happy and satisfied. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and just plain NICE. We have been purchasing blades from other vendors for years, and recently tried out some AF brands, absolutely bad experience. The blades were made of poor quality materials, My son at youth age broke two in a single 30 minutes session practice. Two blades snapped at the same spot close to the tip. I went back to talk to the owner guy and asked to return the other unused blades. He denied the blades were made from poor quality materials and pushed us to buy more expensive ones, and offered no reason or compensation for the poor quality products. I ordered a pair of knickers and spent 10 dollars on shipping. When I got it, the pants didn't fit me and had to pay $10 out of pocket that we REFUSED to reimburse me for. THEN they expected me to pay ~$8 to exchange it for another size. $30 on shipping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were in-compliant and completely unhelpful. We have bought fencing items from Absolute Fencing in Bridgewater on several occasions. Although, they always seem to act a little cocky, as if they're the only people selling fencing equipment. Recent, I was very upset and came close to filing a complaint. I was with my daughter buying a new fencing mask. One of their salesmen, not the one actually helping us, insisted I fit her for a smaller size than what I was requesting. The salesman said with strong words, "that's not her size, I can tell by looking at her head". I said okay, since she is use to wearing a particular size, can she try both a small and a medium. He walked over and started helping us. He said again, in strong words. "I'll bring it but I won't sell it to you". My daughter and I looked at each other, thinking, what's wrong with him. When my daughter tried on the medium, he walked up to her quickly without warning and abruptly with force slapped the face of her mask. I was shocked as was my daughter. My daughter is a confident fencer, but only 14 years old, and didn't want to seem hurt but I could see that she was close to crying. He then said, "see that helmet doesn't fit". It shouldn't have moved around when I hit the screen". Then he walked off. I called for the manager. The owner came but wouldn't have the salesman apologize. She said he's too angry right now. I will talk to him when he calms down. I am sorry he did that to your daughter. You should have listened to him. He's a very good fencer. I mentioned being a good fencer doesn't give him the right to mistreat people and a young girl at that. He should be ashamed of himself. I was shocked that she was blaming me for simply wanting to try on both helmets, so the best fit could be determined. My daughter told her fencing friends and several mentioned they had a similar experience with the same guy being rough with them and not very nice. If you have a daughter don't take her to Absolute Fencing. I didn't like the owners attitude either as she seemed afraid to say anything to her employee and made excuses. There attitude is getting worse. I am looking for another place to buy equipment and maybe if more people did the same, they would conclude that customer satisfaction is an important business trait. read more

This place was recommended to us by my daughter's coach at her fencing club. I've ordered from them multiple times and the Customer Service is one of the very best I've encountered, consistently. In the process of ordering through them over a period of time, I've worked with many of their staff members and consistently, without exception, EVERYONE works at a very high level of customer service in the true sense of the word. They are knowledgeable, helpful, efficient and kind - just a pleasure to work with. I just got off the phone with one of them, Jenny, and after hanging up, just reminded once again how great it is to work with them, that I'm taking the time to write this review although I have a million other things to take care of. I just placed an order online and because their system only authorizes credit card transactions where the billing address is consistent with the shipping address, I had to call to make the change, as well as ask if they can try to get my order in that day's shipment.
