What a mensch. I have this super weird situation where I salvaged a fiberglass sliding door from a dusty storage shed and when it was partially installed, it became clear that there was only holes for a handle on one side of the door. The mystery of how to have a door that opened and locked on both sides was dismaying and pressing. I called Absolute Lock Company and the owner asked thoughtful questions. He offered that if he was in the area, he would have a look. As it happened, he was able to swing by the following morning. After a thorough assessment, he offered his analysis and the rather unfortunate outcome that it probably cannot be amended, based on how it is structured. He was patient and did not charge me for his time. I would trust his care and scrutiny with projects going forward. Hopefully next time I will salvage a door that can open, close, and lock. read more

I will change this review if Tom does a better job. He showed up after couple of hours, removed all my locks THEN said he did not bring the forms to make new locks. He messed around a bit more, said he'd leave two screwdrivers as security, and would return in a couple more hours. Saugerties is about 20 minutes from my town. I feel very insecure alone in a house with empty holes where locks should be. Why would he go out on a job and not bring the basic necessities? read more

In a town whose service personnel are famous for not even showing up (you know it's true), Tom called me FOUR times to confirm our appt on the day. Three of those calls went unanswered (phone issue)., but he persevered. He then showed up, worked a few hours to install two keypad locks and repair a deadbolt and a doorknob, ran into all kinds of issues (1905 farmhouse), talked to himself a lot, never swore, and ended the visit with a smile and good humor. I'd hire him again in a heartbeat. I wish he were also an electrician, a plumber, a gardener, and a contractor. I've been meaning to write this review for months for no other reason than I can't believe the excellent service Tom provided. Technicians in your home typically don't have the bandwidth or the wherewithal to spend almost an entire day wrestling with unexpected problems (weird old locks, bent mechanisms), going the extra mile (fixing entire garage door, not just the lock), being considerate & generous, but Tom did. Tom saved us during one of the coldest nights this winter season. One of our renters was locked out of our rental property at night. Tom was very professional and easy to work with. He communicated his rates ahead of time, how long it would take him to get there, and helped our renter get into the house very fast once he got there. The hardware store used the wrong blank when copying one of my keys and the key broke when trying to open my door. I called Absolute lock and was quoted a very reasonable price to remove the key. It was snowing and Tom the owner arrived a couple minutes before he promised. He took his time trying to retrieve the key from inside the lock, but unfortunately he was unable to do so and needed to drill the lock and replace the core. Being that he couldn't remove the key I assumed it would cost way more then the original quote. While it was more it was very reasonable considering the work that was done. Tom and Absolute Lock are extremely honest and professional and I would not hesitate to recommend them. read more
