Mark performed a considerable amount of work on my home that included installing a new kitchen, putting a dormer in the attic, framing it out and making it a useable room. He put down new floors, new moldings and new sheetrock in a number of places and he replaced numerous windows and installed many electrical outlets. He did many other smaller things as well such as as installing lighting, ceiling fans and several barn doors and painting. He managed some of the other work, such as the spraying of insulation for the attic and the electrical and town inspections. Mark was exceptionally lovely to work with. It was not easy for him having me live at the house while he was renovating but he was always considerate and kind. If I wasn't happy with something he would change it. He was easy to talk to and discuss things with and he explained the work he was doing and the process as we went along. The construction and installation work he did was excellent. I could not have asked for more. The place looks beautiful and very well executed. When things came up along the way (like water getting into my basement) he just bought the right product and sealed it. (I of course paid him for the extra work but he just advised me about options and carried through with his recommendation). When I came home and hated the color that I chose, he repainted, no questions asked. He stuck pretty much with the timing he quoted me and on the whole was a total pleasure to work with. My only criticism of his work has to do with his finishing work. He was not as meticulous with caulking and painting as I would have liked. However, in response to my discussion with him about this (he is the kind or person who is approachable about such things) he took a small amount off the final cost so I could pay a handyman or painter to perform this function. So, although he could have done better finishing work himself, he essentially reimbursed me to have someone else complete this part of it. I was very happy with this solution and would definitely hire him again and recommend him to others. read more

Mark You should be ashamed of yourself! You left old shingles on roof replaced new shingles on top causing much damage. I have in writing you said took old shingles off? The work you did in my house was terrible. My doors 3 of them were never painted? You took advantage of me. I implore anyone looking to use Mark and Woodpecker Builders be aware he does shoddy work. After being impressed by the work he did constructing a new deck, we asked Mark to give us some estimates for several "bigger" projects (hardwood floors to replace carpeting, a new kitchen, etc.). We decided on the kitchen remodel, but were prepared for a long wait for it's completion. To our surprise and delight, soon after the supplies arrived, including new cabinets, appliances and flooring, Mark came and worked practically non-stop from 8-5 week days until the job was complete, IN ABOUT 2 WEEKS TIME! The finished project has completely transformed our dated kitchen and my wife and I couldn't be happier with his work and professionalism. Minor issues we brought to his attention were immediately corrected, even when they required additional travel time. I never write negative reviews for small business but after paying thousands of dollars for a deck that now needs to be raised to be at the same level as the pre installed house ledger board, I am fuming. Very poor workmanship. The steps on my deck are wavey and all the deck boards are not cut square so I was hoping I could just take them off and square up the cuts. The more board I take off, the more problems I am finding with the deck frame. No blocking, some joists are not 16"oc... Take a look at the pictures. They speak for themselves. Unfortunately my previous review was favorable until my wood plank floor started buckling. The flooring was installed by Woodpecker Builders in 2020 so it's not old. My insurance adjuster reviewed the flooring and said it was installed incorrectly. The tension is too tight and now I have to pay AGAIN OUT OF POCKET FOR A NEW FLOORING! We've had Mark back as stated previously we would. This time installed roof over the well area to the basement to keep rain and snow from accumulating. Also at a separate time became aware of wood rotting at side door to the garage. Mark was able to assess the situation and take out old rotted wood and install new side door. Super unhappy. I had Woodpecker Builders do a major renovation on a house and ended up redoing lots of things myself. Mark does not do good finishing work. There were areas where the sheetrock tape wasn't covered with joint compound and other spots were the compound wasn't sanded smoothly - evident ridges. Pock marks and gashes everywhere. He doesn't properly install cabinets - actually cut flooring around cabinet rather than put flooring in first; he cut flooring around trim on a post rather than removing the trim - so now the trim is below the floor. Cabinets were at different heights and depths, not level - thankfully the countertop installers were able to do a few things to help hide what was done wrong. He doesn't tile well- didn't cut beneath the door joists to put tile underneath, instead he left an inch grout line around them - even tiled around trim rather than taking the trim off. It looked terrible, grout lines uneven, shower pan looks like it's smiling on the back wall the line is so curved, one side of the panel is level, one slightly angles outward and the other inward (all should go slightly inward so water goes toward drain). Looks like the tile around the shower drain was chewed rather than cut. Oh yeah, he made the height of a new wall in the living room lower than the adjoining dining room and hung windows at slightly different heights. He's expensive and takes no responsibility to fix his bad work. He'll also charge you his rate for day workers which have zero experience. I can go on and on - stay away. read more
