She made me feel comfortable and relaxed every step of the way, talking me through everything. Dr. Karmali is extremely kind, attentive, gentle, humble, and calming. She went to UW Med School, so extra points for that! Another cool thing is that Swedish uses MyChart, an online personal health record system where you can see your medical history, appointments, messages from your doctor, etc. Strangely, when I called to make an appointment, the receptionist said that Dr. Karmali did not have any openings until January 2015. However, when I went online to MyChart, I saw multiple openings between now and the end of the year. I ended up making an online appointment with Dr. Karmali for early December and cancelling my phone-made appointment with another doctor at Swedish. I am so excited to go see Dr. Karmali again soon!

After my motorcycle accident in 2009 Dr. Karmali checked up on me and worked with my medical records from Harborview to continue with my pain management care. To this day she still works closely with me on this care and has been very good at keeping an eye out for my health and well being and continues to work with my pain management doctor at Harborview. Dr. Karmali set me up with MyChart (available to all Swedish patients) when I moved back to WA and through that I am able to discuss issues with her without having to make an appointment to go into the clinic (I'm already there enough as it is!) and she is quick to get back to me usually same day but definitely within 24 hours. She even responds on her days off and to me, that is complete dedication and proves just how much she cares about her patients. I have recommended her to a couple of friends and they love her as well. Dr. Karmali is very knowledgeable and caring. If she is unsure of something she will investigate the issue to ensure that you get the best possible care. She is just an amazing doctor and an even more amazing person.

She told me that I needed to see a nutrition counselor and lose weight. I have overall healthy eating habits and work out 5-6 times per week, so it didn't make sense to me that I would have this type of weight gain or chronic heartburn. I got a second opinion and discovered that I have the worst case of h.pylori she had EVER seen in her entire career. In addition, she dug a little deeper and discovered that my thyroid is very very low functioning. With some appropriate treatment, I'm on the road to recovery. I'm beyond disappointed that Dr. Brusvold chalked my symptoms up to being overweight. It was an easy "diagnosis" and it was wrong and has severely impacted my health and well being. She was recommended by a pickier friend of mine who raved about her as well. The parking garage entrance is a bit tricky to find, but there is never a problem finding parking. Dr. Gorman's ability as a MOHS Surgeon is fantastic. I was referred to her by my dermatologist…read morecouple years ago and was so pleased with the outcome of the surgery that I requested to be referred specifically to her again. Both visits to Dr. Gorman were to remove skin cancer, one area on my head and one area on my chest. To this day I can not find the area where she operated on my head (i.e. no scar but I know there were 20+ stitches). This time Dr. Gorman removed the skin cancer, stitched up my chest and specifically told me to come back for a follow up appointment "a week from Thursday", which was approx. two weeks later. I arrived for my appointment 10 minutes early and was the only patient in the waiting room. Eventually other patients came and were taken back before me. Fifteen minutes past my appointment time I was taken back to a room where I sat alone for an hour. I should have left. Finally I was seen by some other physician and was told that Dr. Gorman is never in the Bellevue office on Thursdays. Why then did she tell me to come back on Thursday, so she could remove the stitches? Why did her staff schedule me to come on Thursday without telling me that Dr. Gorman will not even be there? Dr. Gorman has a policy for patients who don't show up for their appointment, stating a $50 fee will be charged if you don't show up for your appointment. I'm thinking she owes me $50 - never mind the fact that I had to wait an hour past my scheduled appointment time to be seen by a stranger. I'm having an issue with the incision site and feel like I simply am not important enough to be taken care of. I assure you that I will be billed for having been seen by "Dr. I have no clue what her name is" and leaving the office definitely with unresolved issues. I knew I should have just walked out. Now I guess I need to find a doctor who will give me an explanation of what is going on and take care of my incision site problem. All that to say - in the past Dr. Gorman's skill as a MOHS Surgeon was impressive but a patient should never experience such absentee aftercare.

And while her practice uses the best of technology, the way she practices medicine is reminiscent of a time when there were no HMOs, insurance companies or 15-minute appointment allotments. Yep, Dr. Marshall will actually spend A LOT of time getting to know and treating you, even though that runs counter to maximizing profits! I also appreciate that Dr. Marshall practices holistic medicine; I see it as getting the best of both worlds. She's very knowledgeable about nutrition, acupuncture, naturopathy, physical medicine, and of course, Western medicine. The Eylan Health office is clean, relaxing, organized, and I haven't had any trouble getting appointments. I like using the Eylan Health E-Portal to schedule appointments, upload docs, get lab orders and communicate with Dr. Marshall (I haven't gotten on board with the MyChart system at our other doctors quite yet). Oooh, and the office is right down the street from Mayuri Indian Cuisine, a fantastic choice if you're in the mood for Indian food. But here's my #1 reason for being a Dr. Marshall/Eylan Health fan: I'm actually feeling BETTER after a month of simple changes and Dr. Marshall's treatments! I've been seeing health practitioners and trying every reasonable treatment under the sun [well, that I can actually afford] to deal with my musculoskeletal issues for nearly a decade now. Yet in the past 6 weeks since seeing Dr. Marshall, I've become convinced that my body is actually starting to heal (or at least it's not reacting so poorly to every little stress). Honestly, I didn't expect these kind of results at all, so color me shocked and delighted! I have definitely spent the past year especially working HARD on my health, so I like to think those efforts prepared my body to be receptive to Dr. Marshall's treatments.
