It's been years since I've written about my doctor and I suppose that it's time to update my review since all these years later I still see him and still think he's outstanding! Let me start off by admitting I'm a terrible patient. I should be seeing my doctor at least once a year and it has been... err... a few. But even with a gap in time Dr Hatfield was quick to pick up where we last left off. My favorite thing about our appointments is that he makes fun little notes to himself about each patient. Not just questions pertaining to your health but about your line of work, if you're single, what your hobbies are, etc. It might seem strange at first but it actually brings down a lot of the nerves and tension that come with seeing a doctor. It's fun to exchange pleasantries that aren't just about cholesterol, allergies, and blood pressure. Because let's face it - that stuff is a drag! So it's fun to spend a couple mins talking about what's new and just having a very casual, friendly conversation. Another thing I need in a doctor is someone that isn't just kind, but knowledgeable. I've always trusted and followed Dr. Hatfield's advice. And hey, that could be directly related to why I don't see him too often. I don't need to! He's been great with suggestions for over the counter options for allergies, he's helped me find the right dose of prescription meds I take, and he's very thorough when it comes to uncovering what any issues might be that you're having relating to your health. I also appreciate that he reserves a few slots a day for last minute, emergency appointments. I've only had to do this once, many years ago, but I much preferred seeing my own doctor than having to go to the ER or see another doctor that doesn't know much about me or my health history. You also can't beat his office location! I've never had to wait more than 5 mins to see him and once the appointment is over I can walk just 50 ft to get my blood work done, and then over to Pacific Place or Nordstrom to shop my heart out. Pacific Place's parking garage is also among the most affordable garages in the city, so it's nice to pay $6 to park for an hour and only walk a half block to get to the building. The only thing I still need to know is who Dr. Hatfield's dentist is. Whitest, cleanest teeth ever! I'll have to remember to ask him next time I see him. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Hatfield for a couple years now, mostly just for my routine check-ups, and once because I was feeling dizzy for no particular reason. He's always friendly and I feel comfortable asking him any kind of question. As for prescribing drugs, he hasn't tried to prescribe me anything in particular, and when I was complaining of dizziness he addressed my diet and recommended a couple vitamins I could get from GNC or any drugstore. I saw Dr. Hatfield numerous times for various ailments. I felt that he always rushed me out the door and never really took my needs and concerns seriously. In fact, it seems like he wanted to prescribe drugs that were all-the-rage (like Lyrica for Fibromyalgia). He is a nice guy, I just felt that he could care less about what was going on. Also, I don't like the fact that the Polyclinic would not let me go to a different Polyclinic location because I had DSHS insurance. I was stuck going to the downtown clinic even though I live in Shoreline. This made it difficult for me especially since I didn't care for Dr. Hatfield. It doesn't matter anymore since, as of Jan 09, the Polyclinic no longer accepts DSHS at all. read more

About five years ago I had a major surgery and major complications afterwards. Because I did not have proper treatment, the problems just got worse. By the time I started seeing Dr. Hatfield in 2014, I was ready to totally give up on finding out what was causing my problems. Dr. Hatfield took as much time as needed to find out what was wrong and then sent me to just the right specialty service within the Polyclinic that could further diagnose my condition, so we could figure out how to treat it and hopefully cure it. It is called Pudendal nerve entrapment. While there is no cure and that makes me very sad sometimes, at least I can seek treatments for the right diagnosis thanks to Dr. Hatfield. I have seen over 20 doctors since that surgery and Dr. Hatfield is the first one who sent me to somebody who could actually figure it out. He had a hunch as to what may be causing the problems and was right on in the end. Dr. Hatfield is a compassionate physician who cares about his patients very much and he works very hard to help them lead as healthy of a life as possible. I would recommend Dr. Hatfield to anyone who thinks that doctors just don't care anymore. The entire staff as well, have always been very caring. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Hatfield. I've been seeing him for the past 8 years, and have never been treated with such kindness and compassion by any of the myriad of doctors I've suffered through over the years. My last doctor would just sit at his desk typing into his computer during most of our visit, and not even look me in the eye--very cold. But Dr. Hatfield makes it a point to look you straight in the eye and convey to you that you're his entire focus during the appointment. I've had two very serious health issues in the past 2 years that required immediate surgery or an immediate ultrasound. And he had me in a taxi headed to the Broadway campus within 5 minutes of my leaving his office to see specialists both times, even calling ahead to ask a surgeon to delay his next surgery so he could see me first. And the folks at the Broadway campus were great--efficient, funny, and effective. I've always had an innate fear of doctors and always get 'whitecoat' when I go to an appointment, which shoots my blood presssure through the roof. And at the end of every appointment, he always takes the time to measure my blood pressure personally, and I think that's pretty darn caring and sweet in my book. And because he knows of my anxiety and distrust issues regarding doctors in general, and that I don't currently have insurance, he does just what he feels is necessary, and doesn't bust my piggy bank with expensive drugs and unnecessary tests. I've never met a doctor who is as smart, thoughtful, kind, generous with their time and genuinely concerned about a patient's holistic well-being as Kevin Hatfield. I've had an ongoing health issue and been to a dozen doctors who either didn't know about the condition or prescribed the standard medication. Dr. Hatfield was not only well-versed in the illness, he offered treatment that not only addressed the illness, but improved my quality of life immeasurably. Dr. Hatfield listens carefully, is ready to send to specialists if he thinks it's appropriate, discusses the pros and cons (both physically and financially) of different tests and treatment options. I have always had excellent experiences with specialists from the Polyclinic. Dr. Hatfield himself seemed fine but I did feel like my son (his patient) was just yet another source of income for him. But his education and abilities as a physician were fine. Why we finally gave up with him was the extreme ineptness of his support staff. They lost important information for my son's chart, couldn't bill insurance correctly almost every appointment, couldn't get correct blood test results. We made complaints and over the course of three years nothing was done to correct this - just excuses that his support staff are "very busy". Everyone at Polyclinic is very busy and no other doctor's support staff has made any of these serious mistakes. We will continue to see our specialists at Polyclinic but will steer clear of this doctor. read more

He has literally saved my life at least 3 times when things came out of nowhere on me during the past. Dr. Hatfield is a nice guy and knowledgeable enough about medical matters. His staff is obviously over-worked, and it is difficult, if not impossible, to get them to return phone calls or respond to My Chart messages. His nurses and physician assistants gate-keep test results and are just as likely to respond to your inquiries with attitude than they are to helpfully assist. read more

Dr. Hatfield and his staff our always friendly. I had previously been with a horrible and ignorant doctor who wouldn't treat my knee pain or severe back pain. Doctor Hatfield tested me and all I needed was vitamin D supplements. It was that simple but he listed to my entire list of symptoms for my severe back spasms that required me to take vicodin and ibuprofen. He also listened to me about my knees, and right away knew what the problem was.He sent me to physical therapy. One time, I went to see him about another issue and he saw hat I had pneumonia and helped me.I am so greatful He also sees my daughter and cares about her. I have never had anything but good experiences with Kevin and have been going to him for years....in fact I quite liked how he handled one of my issues with a natural remedy instead of resorting to drugs. I would - and have recommended him to many of my friends that are unhappy with their doctors. I went to Dr. Hatfield for several years. It wasn't until I scheduled a physical, and him and his staff all questioned me as to why since it was 9-10 months since my last one. Instead, I was lectured on what is involved in a physical then he billed it as a regular visit not a physical. It was a huge waste of my time. When I went to complain to his boss about it, his response was it was a misunderstanding and that if they didn't waive the charge he would write it off. I question his ethics, and most of all his intent to provide health care to patients. I have high cholesterol and this physical was important to me. Now, after several months of fighting a $200 medical bill which I received nothing but grief, I have the time to find a new Dr. I would think twice before going to the Polyclinic. My wife and I have not been there without having a billing issue, tests that we were charged for that were not authorized by us, etc. If you want to have high bills, incorrect billing, and have no one give a crap on following your health plan than this place will drive you right into the ground. read more
