What an awesome Academy. This is the newest location in the area and is conveniently located close to what is most important (me). Now that this location is open, I wont have to drive to Slidell anymore just for a sporting goods store. I visited most recently to look for a specific Christmas gift. They did not have any on display so rather than buy the more expensive one, I asked one of the employees. This guy was great. He not only checked for me, be went to the back, got one and even brought it to my car. He went way above and beyond to help and was friendly the whole time. Even though the store was packed, they were well staffed and had all the registers going. While standing around I had at least four different employees ask if I needed help. Thanks Academy. I was very excited to get a Bubba tackle bag bc it was 30$ off but get to the register and the wouldn't honor the discount price. It was still hanging under the discount sticker and they refused to give it to me. I charter and buy here 3 times a week but I will NEVER shop here again. I'm cutting up the academy card and sportsman's warehouse gets all of my business from now on. read more

I was looking for fishing gear and I didn't really know what I was looking for. A man named Jeremy came and helped me look for everything and gave me great advice about what to use and what to get in the future. I always manage to find really nice shirts and pants every time I shop there. I love Under Armour workout clothing and they have an awesome selection of workout pants. I wish they would have more selections when it comes to Under Armour shirts and hats though. I really prefer flat brimmed snap backs as I have a bigger head...Under Armour makes these kinds of hats so I wonder why they never have these stocked in the store. Anyone planning on shopping here do not expect any customer service whatsoever except for them maybe bumping into you doing absolutely nothing. So far I have been pretty happy with their shoe selection. Overall I really like this place a lot again it is mainly the terrible customer service that they need to work on. read more

I went specifically to shop for Nike Pro Combat exercise clothing. There are about 6 styles and types of Pro Combat shirts, for instance. At this store they were all mixed in together and it was virtually impossible to find a specific size in a specific style. Plus, about 90% of the sizes did not match the size indicated on the hanger. This despite the fact that a large number of employees were literally tripping over each other doing nothing. This is the worst Academy I have ever shopped in. Month waste your time. read more

I love Academy. This is truly a man's store. About the only place that can beat it when it comes to the amount of testosterone is Bass Pro Shops. Like most other locations, this place is full of hunting and fishing gear. They also feature a large selection of sportswear, shoes, camping gear, outdoor cooking equipment and just about anything else you could want in a sporting goods store. I visited on the first Saturday that they were open. The shelves were stocked full of products to sell and every employee was ready and willing to help you find anything that you were looking for. The place was packed like it was Christmas Eve at Wal-Mart. Every register was open which made checking out quick and painless. Prices are pretty reasonable when compared to the same items at other retailers. I only gave this location four stars because I want to see if after the "newness" wears off if the employees can keep up the fast friendly service. I will definitely be returning to this location more than I probably should be. read more

Very disorganized. Customers and staff are pushy and have pushed past me multiple times. I'm sure they were trying to prepare for Black Friday, but my god. I guess bigger stores don't need to try to be courteous. read more

I tried to return a new unused bat (5 days old) to the store with my receipt and purchase one of the appropriate size for my child. Because the wrapper was removed they would not make the swap. Additionally, they gave me a number to call direct for Marucci where they will accept the return. I tried the number, and it was to Rawlings. I called an executive at Marucci to learn that Academy can not speak for them in any way and that the bat should be returned to Academy. Marucci was very helpful, and not the problem here. This Academy disappoints on a regular basis. I spend thousands at this store annually because I have few choices, but will definitely only go there now to try on stuff, and then order from Amazon going forward. This is one of the worst managed stores ever. They have tons of new lanes to check out, but usually just one person at customer service that is actually open. Stay away! Stay away! Hit or miss. Sometimes they have exactly what you need and sometimes they don't .. As with all places.. If you see something on sale for a great price snatch it . don't come back later I have seen items sell out every time I have done this. They have an on line store that usually has everything I need. Every time I go to academy it's the same thing. They have one motorized handicap cart. The last time I was there the card was not in use but it was dead as a doorknob and the door greeter did not have sense enough to plug it in. Today I've got there approximately 10:30 a.m. there was no motorized cart. The items that I went there to shop for within the very back of the I have deterioration of my spinal cord plus problems with my knees and cannot walk around the store. In the past 6 months maybe once they've had the cart available. I honestly do not feel like they have any appreciation for their handicapped shoppers. I have complained before about the lack of carts being available and the associate at the door said well I have a wheelchair why don't you use that. that particular day I was buying a 10 by 10 awning and I would look funny with the wheelchair by myself dragging that awning along. read more

We purchased a couple of items as Christmas presents for our children (which was mentioned while we were shopping and the salesman was chatting with us) Our oldest son was in there shopping today, and when the man at the counter asked his name and he gave it, he proceeded to tell him that his parents had been in there the week before and told him all of the presents that we bought for him and his 2 siblings. I can't believe someone would be so rude. I don't think I will shop here again, as this was very upsetting. read more

We shop at this Academy location often. After today, we'll take a break from shopping there. The employees don't seem too friendly most of the time. The shoe section is a mess, and it's hard to find the shoe size you need. More than a few times they were out of the size we needed. Also, on the Academy website it says that they will match their online price in the store. Today the manager refused to honor the online price even though we showed him the ad on the Academy website, so we didn't buy the shoes. read more

I went to Academy in Covington to purchase a chrome barbell bar and saw a Marcy Elite Extended Bench set and bought it as well. I asked for some information about the product compared to other products but the person who was helping me didn't seem to have much knowledge about it although he was trying. I appreciate their taking time to look for another stock of the bar that is in the box and for helping me put it in my car. The cashier who checked me out does not know how to smile to the customer and say thank you. They seem not so happy working there which i never felt going to Walmart. I went home and assembled the set with my 5 year old son. It was easy to assemble. However, the bolt won't go all the way through the nut so they are all loose and the machine is not stable. I called Academy the next day to have some information on how to tighten the nut properly since it was my first time to come across those kind of nuts. The person from the fitness department picked up the phone and does not have any idea on how to tighten the bolts with those nuts. He was guessing i could use a wrench. I wanted to be certain because i was afraid of breaking the rubber if i will force the bolt into it. So i asked again if he was sure so he put me on hold to ask someone about it while i could hear him saying " she's a F*C*K*N*G Spanish and i couldn't understand what the F*CK she's sayin'. She's F*C*K*N* askin' about the bolts and so on" .. and all i could hear is that his every sentence didn't miss the "F*C*K*N" word. I was shocked to hear an employee say that to another employee and i guess they realized that they forgot to press the phone's hold button and pressed it. I was not offended at all but i felt bad for the store. He was upset because he didn't really know the answer to the question. I called again and asked for the manager this time. I asked the manager about the nuts and bolts and he said he needs to see it even if i asked him if he could look at their display if it went all the way pass the rubber. Obviously, he also did not know what i was talking about and didn't want to exert more effort.I just told him that i'll just go there. And he gave me his name. I also told him about the employee's choice of words and he said that it is not acceptable and he'll definitely do something about it. Well, I hope so. It will surely drive your customers away!! I'm not a regular Academy customer. I just started going there because i decided to start to work out at home. Been there a few times. Okay, for those who have or will have the same problem as mine, The Nut i was talking about is called a "LOCKNUT". It is not like the ordinary nut that you usually use. It has rubber in the end of the nut and the bolt won't go all the way through the bolt with just using your bare hands. Voila! You will need a wrench!! I learned about it after checking home depot's website. After learning what it is called, i checked youtube and they have some tutorial there on how to tighten a LOCKNUT. It is very important for an employee to learn it (especially the manager and those in charge of the equipments) How to tighten a LOCKNUT!! Obviously, they are hiring people that does know much or anything about their products (even simple things like NUTS). And if a sales person does not know much, they can't sell much!! Not my favorite Academy store. It felt like a majority of the employees were playing around rather than helping customers in need. There was also a huge pile of dog crap in the hunting clothes section that I almost stepped in. I am assuming it was from a Service Dog but who knows, never saw the culprit. One of the employees saw it, laughed, and kept walking. I guess he doesn't get paid enough to deal with that mess. Step it up Academy! read more

Called the store to ask if could speak to associate regarding a kyak, the girl was helpful enough but no one would pick up the phone as they were so busy with customers. She offered for someone to call me back if I wanted but I decided to visit the store instead. I like to note this employee did her job well and no complaints. However upon arrival today around 2pm, I was looking at the kyak, hoping that someone would assist me. While I am looking another customer shows up and not one single person either bothered to ask if we needed help. I noticed just to my left over 6 associates just laughing and joking doing everything except helping people. Went over to Customer Service to ask to speak to the manager and the girl pointed in the direction of the group just hanging out and joking. At this point I just left and couldn't even be bothered to talk to the manager as I felt the whole experience was a joke, I honestly got better service at Walmart. Hats off to you Academy Covington your service was a joke and I'll take my business elsewhere read more
