Loretta's was on my NOLA list so I decided to knock 2 things off my list by visiting her location at the French Market which is located in the French Quarter. After enjoying my beignets, I strolled the market. The market is open daily and with any iconic spot in NOLA, I recommend arriving early before the crowd gets any larger. There is plenty to see and buy here! Plenty of vendors with art, clothing, jewelry and lots of mardi gras items! Great location to grab quick souvenirs. The restrooms were clean, which I kinda wasn't expecting. The vendors I encountered were friendly and informative. Unfortunately, I was on a schedule and had a little over an hour to browse, but I can't wait to come back so I can stroll around at my leisure. I could've easily spent more time here. This is definitely a spot you want to add to your New Orleans itinerary.

It's been around since 1791, but the six blocks that make up the French Market don't yield much in local historical value. Congested with wandering tourists, most of the vendors sell items that could be found at any flea market in the country. A lot of the souvenirs and clothing fell way short in reflecting authentic New Orleans craftsmanship. I was hoping for a market more along the lines of Barcelona's La Boqueria with bounties of fresh produce and appetizing edibles, but there was just a row of fast food kiosks beyond the beignets at Cafe du Monde. Without a doubt, the highlight of the market was the strolling groups of musicians randomly playing jazz to enraptured tourists. RELATED - Exploring New Orleans? Fun with tons of different vendors and shops all along the river. Artist shops, clothing, jewelry and more!! Some food spots as well, in case you get hungry and places for sweet treats and drinks. A go-to spot in the city that's fun if you decide to shop or just walk around. Check it out!

Before we left for vacation, I watched lots of youtube videos, and all recommended the French Market. From the videos, the entrance appeared to be similar to that of Boston Market. We took a Lyft from the Garden District, After walking in, and passing some hot sauce stands and drink stands, I was mildly disappointed. There were many t-shirt vendors. and not much else. In the surrounding area that was also part of the French Market, some shops were good but one souvenir shop girl was more interested in her bf than in being pleasant and greeting customers. There is a statue of Joan of Arc. I was expecting something fun, like Pike's Market.

We were out for Mardi Gras and were looking for crawfish and stopped here. It smelled pretty good and even they were short handed and busy service was still decent. We didn't end up eating crawfish because they were $17lbs (smoking crack) and they said they were tiny and they were as I saw them for myself. So I just ordered a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo and a fried picked appetizer. I loved the fried pickles here. I do prefer the fried spears but these slices were the perfect size and was still able to taste the pickles under the batter. They were a bit too salty but nonetheless I enjoyed. The gumbo wasn't the best or the worst I'll never have to eat it again though.

Tchotchkes of every sort. An outdoorish market Jerwelry, t-shirts, hats, doiles, incense, chess set. Hit the food stall section , grab an Abita and have a few of the freshest oysters you've ever had. Serious. A must visit in Nawlins.

We came here for the first time and we love buying the souvenirs here and presents. There's also food spots. There are restrooms as well. They do accept most types of payments. The vendors/artists were super friendly. A little bit of everything for everyone.

We came here after visiting Cafe Du Monde to see what offerings and food they have. The market houses tons of vendors and eateries so there's plenty to see, eat and buy. My sis and I shared some boiled crawfish that was amazing and perfectly spiced. All the vendors we talked with were friendly and informative, overall a great place to visit with good vibes

It's easy to spend an hour or so here looking at all the vendors and their goods. I found a very friendly Argentinian man selling beautiful postcards and magnets. If you see him you'll know he has cute souvenirs and a great personality ! A lot of the food here is also a must including and most importantly Loretta's

Loved going to visit the French Market during my first visit to New Orleans. It's an amazing place for shopping and souvenirs. They do something for every holiday too. They decorate for Halloween and Christmas from what the locals tell me.

The French Market had a lot of options to choose from. Whether you're looking for food, clothes, hats, dresses, etc. This is the place! Since we went during Mardi Gras it was extremely crowded so we didn't get to experience everything we wanted to.

This is a great open air spot with many vendors and customers. They have a little bit of everything! Stop by and see for yourself. It's right by the river walk.

Wonderful, art galleries, beautiful sculptures, and fabulous gifts. Pralines fudge, and food items can be found here as well. Everything and anything, New Orleans. We did some nice shopping here.

There are multiple crescent city farmer's markets throughout the city but I believe this one is referencing the one in Mid-City that used to be in the parking lot at American Can apartments but has now relocated to the Lafitte Greenway! Soooo I don't normally cook so I was there to just check it out and maybe get some prepared food! I lucked out bc Plume Algiers had some delicious chai and stuffed naan with goat cheese and mushrooms! It was super easy to pay with Venmo and they had their venmo account right on a laminated sheet! Score! I like this new location for the farmer's market bc there is more space to spread out than the American fan parking lot. Plus it's such a great outdoor space right off the Lafitte Greenway with two sets of bike racks, benches, hand sanitizer stations, and even a lit stage! They also have a booth where you can get tokens and they accept EBT which is awesome! There were lots of different booths with everything from Fruits, vegetables, seafood, bread, local honey, and so much more! One of the highlights for me is seeing the beautiful rainbow flag that ends in a trans ‍ flag! Way to represent! They also have lovely metallic sculptures that light up in different colors at night! Happy Farmer's Marker Shopping!

This location was historically an open-air market, but was completely renovated with overhead doors that can be closed in inclement weather. They have more space, and more pleasant shopping conditions (especially during summer). Southside Produce isn't a farmers market, but they do sell local produce whenever available. When I was in today, they were showcasing local cauliflower, but also had some beautiful fresh Brussel Sprouts from a farm in California. Their fresh produce is always fresh and high quality regardless of its source. Another amazing area they have is the extensive frozen produce aisle. These include virtually every type of frozen vegetable and fruit. I also noted a selection of local meat products in the coolers, these included quite the selection of sausages! In the preserved products, Southside also has you covered. They have their own brand of pickled, jellied, and preserved foods of all sorts. They also sell other name brands. They have syrups and oils, and other similar products. This is an area that's expanded over the years, and is now quite extensive. Then there are the other products that one can find there. These include things like a significant selection of dried beans and rice, local bread products from a number of bakeries, and cypress furniture. In the right season, you can buy fruit trees to plant in your yard or garden. In all seasons, I recommend Southside as a great place to buy healthy and interesting houseplants. I am always amazed by their selection. Service is always great as well. Normally, one need only take their selections to the counter in the center to be rung up. Their registers accept all modern forms of payment including tap to pay (min $4 on credit cards though). If you need any other help, they will be glad to provide it. Everyone seems cheerful and pleasant. I've been going to Southside Produce for decades now. I felt it was overdue to write a review. Not only do you get extremely fresh items, you're able to meet the farmer who raised the animals and grew the vegetables you're buying. In my opinion, this is the best farmers market within driving distance of New Orleans. Here are the reasons why: Proximity to farms - Many people may not know this, but the Northshore is home to many different types of farms. Because Covington is close to the farm, you will get the freshest possible items. Variety - Whether you eat meat, are a vegetarian, or even a pescetarian, there will be something for you at this market. I particularly like the farm fresh meats. On my last visit I spoke with a cattle farmer who was selling his wares. His offer of a processed half or full cow seemed highly desirable, but I had nowhere to store that much meat. I did buy some of his ground beef which was better than anything I have sampled before, including from fancy stores. There are also numerous vendors selling products they made locally. As Jennifer B. mentioned, the Italian cookie stand is a must visit. Besides amazing products, the guys who run the stand are very friendly and entertaining characters. If you have kids make sure you pick up one of their cookies in the shape of popular cartoon characters. Besides all the food, there are also several plant vendors each week. I don't know much about plants, but they had quite the variety. I am a big fan of this market, and think you will be too.
