Decent location. We stopped in to purchase a bicycle for one of the kids in our area. I will just say that you should always assemble the bikes or at the very least check all of the fasteners and make sure everything is properly installed. I bought one in the box because the models on the floor were all basically finger tight. One thing that I have an issue with all Academy Sports now is the way they have you enter a cattle chute style checkout line. I'm not a bovine and I don't particularly like being corralled. Probably the worst academy store, they are always out of stock, employees don't care, lazy and will not help you, they are generally too busy cussing and talking about other employees, they don't know anything about the items they sell. Last 7 times I've ordered items to be picked up in store they are always "out of stock " conveniently only to go to the store and get the item myself. This last order (#8) (out of stock again...) gave up and will shop somewhere else. read more

Ordering online and picking up in the store only works about 40% of the time (due to items not being brought to the checkout area). Have to wait for a while to have store employees bring the items to the checkout area after ordering several hours earlier. Employees complain about other employees not doing their job (especially bringing items to the checkout area). Don't have this problem at other Academy stores. read more

They have a good selection, only problem was I stood there for 20 minutes and made eye contact with both counter salesmen and neither one walked over to let me hold a pistol I drive an hour there to buy. Decided to try another store. read more

Purchased a treadmill, I had to have it delivered as they wouldn't deliver to the store. My order changed$200 to deliver and put in a room. Wasn't delivered on the day it was supposed to, I contacted Academy they told me to contact shipper. How the heck do I know who they hired????? Was a nightmare, never ever purchase from them again. They don't know what they are doing and employees clueless. read more

Really slow service only had two registers open and the line was wrapped around almost the whole store and did not request assistance at the registers. I can't believe this. read more

It is the week before Christmas and there is a line out the door to checkout with only three cashier's available and numerous employees just walking around. This is not the first time I have visited this business and the line be like this. Then you get to the register and the employees have the worst customer service; no smile, no hello or goodbye. By far the worst Academy Sports to ever walk in. There are too many other establishments to get overpriced tshirts at to justify continuing to shop here. read more

The gun department and management is horrible!! The young adults that work in it are slow and wasted over two hours of my time. I will never purchase another thing in this store and will encourage everyone I know to not use this store! read more

Disappointed with the shoe selection for cross training. I guess online shopping would be a better choice.

I just bought a new boat and Academy is one of the stores in Dothan that has a good selection of the items I need to outfit it. However checking out at the registers is extremely frustrating. Today I went to buy a six dollar anchor shackle and waited in line at the register for over 40 minutes. There was a lady buying some shoes that took 15 minutes at the register, the lady behind her was exchanging a fishing rod that took a while, then the next young man in front of me was asked to apply for a credit card at the register which he did. All of this should've been done at a customer service desk, not at the register, especially when a long line of customers are waiting. None of the employees acknowledged the wait or apologized. I will not go back unless I absolutely have to. read more

Well...many things on shelves without prices, no military discount, and i had to wait while 3 people figure out HOW to get the cash register to print a receipt. Apparently it requires a manager -who hastogo to another location and input my name. Geeeeez read more

We usually have a good walk around find something good trip cause don't require help. But if you need an associate to help with anything good luck finding one. We went looking at trampolines and after standing around like a bunch of birds just walking in a group with no purpose I finally went up front to ask for help. One lady was apparently putting up returned or exchanged clothes and just looked at me and kept doing what she was doing. I finally got someone's attention and he said it's not his department or expertise so asked someone else...who never showed up. We looked up pricing online and walked out. I'm deeply saddened to write this review tonight. Academy Sports and Outdoors has always been my all-time favorite store to buy clothing for myself and my family, I visited the Dothan Alabama store tonight to make some exchanges and returns gave the man at the door my receipt in my and my bag and he put orange stickers on each item and on the outside of my bag is hold me to have a good evening. Since I'm not from this area I'm not familiar with the layout at the Dothan store so I asked one of the workers who was in the changing room area where some of the items were located in the store. Instead of answering the question that I politely asked her she instead told me that I was supposed to leave my bag up front and not carry it into the store and rolled her eyes so noticeably I saw her eyelash glue Coming Undone from her false eyelashes. Instead of getting frustrated by this I again asked her my same question and she hasted Lee hold me about where my shirts are located in the store. Being frustrated and my fiance being tired men at work all day we were trying to hurry and going home so we went to the front to make these changes and check out. There was an albino African American young man with gold-rimmed glasses working the customer service desk. He told me that he would have to do the exchanges one by one item by item and mind you I'm returning 7 plus items. So I asked him if he could just refund me my turn to send our gift card because I'm going to spend my money in there any ways which in turn he said no he could not honor the prices that I paid for my items if he did that. So I didn't said will place give me a refund for my items in in total because I have a receipt and the debit card used to purchase the items. He continued to argue with me and tell me the way that he wanted to do it and would not accept anything that I was saying and was talking to me as if I'm ignorant. I will never visit this Dothan Academy Sports store again I'm upset that I'm 2 hours away from my usual store in Auburn. Y'all really need to get it together. read more

Love this place. By far the best sporting goods place in Dothan. Its clean and neat. The employees are very helpful.

This is a great sports and outdoors store. The place can seem cramped but the prices are right and the selection is pretty good with a lot of deal and clearance racks. read more

WAY better than Dick's across the street. Just go here. If you think you'll find it at Dick's, just save yourself a trip and punch your own self in the face. Again, Academy Sports in Dothan, Al is superior to Dick's. I'm from Atlanta if that matters. read more

Website says they open at 8 but store says 8:30. But other than that this place has anything u could ever want. I spent hours looking and still didn't see everything. Average prices and great sales on seasonal clothing. Will differently be going back. read more

This place was great to shop in, and the staff members I dealt with were knowledgeable, and friendly. Prices were good also.
