We stop in here whenever we are low on plastic worms. They seem to have a better selection than most Academy's. They are the only place where I have been able to find the Tequila Sunrise color of worm. Service is always good and the store is usually pretty clean. If I was the manager I would be embarrassed of my work. This is the dirtiest store I have ever been to.

We were RVing at Daingerfield State Park and I needed a new taller camp chair due to some recent knee surgeries. My sister suggested that I check Academy since there was a location close by in Longview, a short 45-minute drive from where we were staying. i got online checked the Academy website to see if they had what I was looking for and found the chair I needed. They also have the option to check locations to see if the product was in stock, yep it was! Next, I checked to see if Academy was "dog-friendly" and they are! We loaded up the dog and headed out on a road trip. What incredible customer service and welcome we received when we arrived. Miss Reba, our very friendly dog, got all sorts of loving from the staff. We were also asked what we were needing and were escorted directly to the section that had the camp chairs. Since I used a "rollator" for stability the associate even stayed with us opening chairs for me to try out. When I decided on the correct chair, my wife, who was also, "wrangling" the dog, started to grab the chair to carry it back up front for checkout. The associate immediately asked if we needed anything else, we told him no. He said, "Let me carry this up front for you and then out to your vehicle." Wow, what incredible customer service. The store was also laid out nicely, clean and orderly. We'll definitely be back when we're in the area and in need of camping supplies. read more

I'm telling you, the customer service has improved so much. On two visits to get my hunting/fishing license worked out, Alexandria, Sonya and Bridgett were great. I believe their branded items, Game Winner, BCG, Megellan are as good as the name brand of the same item and a far better price. The quality and selections in each area are superior. This is so small a store. They have so much more to offer but cannot here because of the size. read more

Terrible customer service for their curbside pickup , Ordered my product , was notified it was ready to pickup, pulled into designated area and hit the link, Was notified an associate would be right out. 25 minutes later I got out and walked into the store, to inquire about the curbside service, nobody knew anything until a young man came to the counter and said he was going to find it. Really? I thought curbside was to keep us out of contact. This was complete failure if the process . No one apologized, just told evidently the system wasn't working, duh huh! If a manager at the Longview store reads this, please correct this issue , we are trying to minimize contact and you are not helping. read more

I ordered a pool online. Academy's offered a $150.00 gift card to buy the pool. After I purchased the pool using the klarna feature of four payments with zero interest, there was no more mention of the gift card. So I fought my way into the chat feature. It was not easy to find a way to talk to someone. No phone numbers were given on the website. You were directed into circles. Chat kept giving me links to go to that did not work. This kicked you out of chat. Finally, a link worked and it sent me to bestwayusa.com. There I see the exact same pool for $200.00 less and no mention of the gift card. So I decided to cancel the order. I used their cancel order feature and it did not work. I kept getting an error message of sorry, refresh the page, which still did not work. So I hunted around and found a customer service number and called. I was told I could not cancel my order because they had generated a tracking number. Somehow they could not cancel it because of this. I kept insisting and advised them I would dispute the charges. They didn't care. They could not cancel the tracking number. They could not say WHY they could not do it. They just could not do it. So I tried to call klarna, the finance place. No phone number, only chat. So I did. They cannot cancel the financing. Only the store can cancel my order and financing. I said nothing has been paid. I don't want to finance anything now. Sorry, they cannot do that. I said I would dispute their charges. They did not care. So, since I was being forced into the sale and the financing of the sale, I decided to at least get my gift card which would make the rip-off price from Academy closer to reasonable. I found the site, managed to get an account set up, and applied for the gift card. It did not go through. It kept telling me I had to enter a store number with a receipt number and a register number. I could not, I had placed the order online. Apparently, that is their fail-safe to prevent sending out the gift cards. Recap, Academy price gouged me, baited me with a bogus gift card no one can claim without a store receipt, refused to cancel because they whipped out a tracking number right away, and stuck me with no gift card and an overpriced pool. I could have comparison shopped but with the lies about the gift card, there is no way to make an honest decision. Buyers beware. This took up a huge amount of time today and with every single dollar counting lately, just spend your money elsewhere. Many smaller businesses will be getting my business from now on. What is the one star for? I could actually understand the person on the phone that was refusing to cancel my order. read more

Gun counter is not knowledgeable about the laws about selling to out of state residents. The difeefernece between long gun and handgun and how the law applies, to include the gun counter management. This place is nothing as it was before. The good employees leave and too many twits remain. Today I called the store In Longview for an email address for the Store Director. I was transferred 4 times and Amanda & Tommy tried to get me to discuss my concerns with them instead of the Store Director as I requested. Every time I go to the sporting goods section, customer service is terrible. My son and I attempted to purchase a fishing license and waited at the counter for 10 minutes and watched one person helping someone with a fishing rod and reel the whole time. There were 4 other employees just walking around the isles. 4 people were at the counter and had to be called to help. There needs to be better management in sporting goods. Longview TX Academy is the worst I have been to. I bought a cannon gun safe from there and the manager REFUSES to give me the code to it. I paid way too much for this safe to not be able to even open it. I was told the code was 1-2-3-4-5-6. This is not correct. I repeatedly told the manager I got this safe from the back and it had a different code on it when I bought it. It must not have gotten reset. WHY sell something you can't provide the right information for. Ridiculous!! read more

Omg! Take some pride in the store you are working in and or running! I've been in a lot of academy's and I've never seen such a mess! Shoes everywhere, baseball equipment laying on Nike tees and 10 people waiting in line to check out, the clothing was a mess!! This place looked like a dump!
