service the service was good, with a notable aspect being the worker at the register referring the visitors in line behind me to the guest services checkout register, so as to prevent those visitors having to wait for me to pay. the worker was also kind and efficient. selection the selection as a whole was good, though the item for which i'd come, an oklahoma city thunder western conference champions tee, was not available. the tee is significant to me for the sake of tradition and nostalgia because i'd got a thunder western conference finals tee following the conference finals win in 2012. and while the store did not have any other thunder tees available either, besides jersey tees, there were shai gilgeous alexander jerseys and chet holmgren jerseys. however, because each of those jersey varieties was too expensive for me to purchase on the visit, i looked instead for a lebron james brand basketball because i recall getting one such ball from that academy store as a child. and while the store was not carrying any lebron james brand basketball at the visit today, there was a nike brand playground category ball, that seems appropriate to me in continuing the mission of keeping outdoor basketballs from use on indoor courts, while acknowledging that i've got a proclivity to play on outdoor courts still. value while the jersey costed more than i could afford to pay on the visit today, it was no more than i'd expect to pay for a jersey from the thunder team store. and the basketball, which was on the higher end of the available price range for a outdoor basketball, was also reasonably priced, at about 23 dollars with tax. read more

This place is very mid. I bought a 22 for my child her as it was a little cheaper then some other stores. But the service was ok kind of. You could tell the guy behind the counter didn't care if you were there or not. After I picked out the gun and did the background check. I had to wait 20 min before the manager came to go check me out. I would've been fine with that if they told me. I would've did a bit of shopping but the guy behind the counter just told me to wait. I'm not from this state but this store seems like the cheaper cousin of the bigger outdoor stores. read more

I was really excited to see my favorite shoes were on sale and I ordered online and planned to pick up the same day. Well the order went through and said it would be ready in an hour then an hour later updates with message that it's ready for pick up only to find out another hour later that the item is not really available. There's not another store within 50 miles either that has this product. What a crappy online experience. Academy I see why you have such poor ratings and I'll not trust you ever again. There's too many reputable options that will deliver on their word. Why take my money and tell me it's ready for pickup? read more

One of the associates made fun of my favorite t shirt I was wearing. It's a WW2 U-Boat that was captured. I was greeted warmly by "Is there a reason you are wearing that shirt or...?" I followed up and said I loved submarines and mentioned it would have been cool to have served on one. Well James, the guy doing my return made it a point to tell me how terrible it is and that I wouldn't want that. It made me feel super uncomfortable and embarrassed for evening mentioning my love for submarines. I went to explain to him that I'm hoping to work on the USS Batfish for restoration as a volunteer and told him the context in the shirt he chose to make fun of. Absolutely unacceptable read more

I can see why this place has such a horrible rating. My mother lives in Tulsa and bought my daughter a pair of shoes. She shipped them to California for Christmas. The shoes are too small so we attempted to return them. O have the original receipt. Academy doesn't have any stores near us. I emailed the company (they never responded) and eventually reached someone by chat through their website. The service was terrible. She informed me that in-store purchase are not eligible for mail-in returns. They have to be taken back to the store. She then informed me that it's been more than 30 days (it's been 32 days) so they won't accept them back in the store. What a joke. These are $70 Adidas shoes that do not fit my daughter and they're refusing to work with us. I've let my mom know to never shop there again and others should be aware as well. We could have gotten a better value shoe from Adidas direct or Amazon and ended up with a product that actually fits. read more

My son and I went sneaker shopping at Academy today. My son has a wife foot and their inventory is up high, double stacked and down below the display. Well, James W. was working the shoe department. He helped us a lot. He climbed the ladder, moved merchandise and used his inventory control to help us find shoes. He was extremely knowledgeable about brands and sizing. I first came here in search of Nerf Guns for a boy's birthday party. They had exactly the kind I wanted but they only had 3 while I needed at least 10. I was impressed by the amount and variety of toys they have. The aisles are organized and I always found staff re-shelving items whom I could conveniently ask for direction. I was not aware of their store hours and once I walked in almost at closing time and they still welcomed me in. Instead of rushing and pressuring me, the employees asked what they could help me find and actually ran to get it for me. Yay for friendly and helpful customer service! read more

Of all the sporting stores in Tulsa, I think Academy has the broadest price range. You can get name brand things or cheaper generic versions of things (if you aren't hardcore into your sport). They have a good variety of products for all things sports/outdoor - you're bound to find what you're looking for (unless it's a super obscure sport). This place has everything you need to wear or use for sports, athletics, outdoor hobbies, guns, fishing, exercising and living an active lifestyle. They have nutritional supplements. They have logo wear for TU, OU, and OSU. About half the staff knows what they are doing and the other half don't care about what they are doing. It is a very busy location and hard to get in unless you are going east to turn in or out. Their regular prices on workout wear is pretty high, they usually have something I like on sale or clearance. They do have fitting rooms. read more

I purchased a new scope and several items including a set of Leupold scope rings. The gun counter guy helped me and he was great. When I got home the rings were for 30MM not 1 inch that I needed. Would have given NO stars if that was an option. Ordered Under Armour duffel bags delivery date given and order confirmed. Assumed they would arrive as scheduled. SURPRISE !! Checked email and found order was cancelled! No notifications, emails, etc. Called 888 number and got a robot! Apparently they were out of stock and instead of letting you know that they pretend they have them and never tell you. Apparently I will get a refund. Tried to purchase Gun, went thru background check and paperwork within 10 min with Kaleb, even helped them sell a gun to another customer. After b/g complete I waited an hour for manger to come back who then said he was too busy and another manger was clocking on and would come help me! Nah screw you, if you don't wanna help, I'll keep supporting local gun shops in area who actually can answer questions with more than yeah I think so. Take nothing away from Kaleb he did everything he could to help with sale, his manger at gun counter was problem. Promote Kaleb I guarantee he wouldn't treat a customer like that, and I say that because Kaleb apologized repeatedly for his manager's behavior. Curbside pick up service very poor at midtown academy (41st st). Waited for almost 30 minutes, no one came. Called customer service 20 minutes into waiting: was told to "wait a second" to look into, was on hold for 5 minutes and call reverted back to the customer service operator, again the same scripted answers/conversation. Ultimately, I went inside and picked up the merchandise. If I knew their service will take so much time, I would have gone inside and picked up and could have saved my valuable time (but then whole point of exposing to the public is defeated) If Academy cant deliver curbside within 10 minutes or so then they should not be offering this service. This was today Wed (mid-week) around 1030-11 am, I expect more waiting time in the evening or weekend. read more

Over the years this place has been a staple for my purchases in all my sporting activities, kids shoes, clothing,etc. Today I was in the midtown store ready to purchase a gun safe. Customer service, the cashiers, and the other 3 associates having personal conversations at the front of the store could not tell me if the item was in stock, even with the bar code. I was told that Travis was on his way, but got held up in shoes. 10 minutes later I left, will not return. It's unfortunate that big box retailers do not know how to train their employees on how to give good customer service. Travis, however should find a new place to work as he must be the only knowledgable employee and is overworked. Good luck academy, remember Oshmans and sports authority, you will join them soon. First, this is not the stores that I wanted. But Google seems to think that this was the only Academy Sports store in Tulsa. The one I'm talking about is on 81st and highway 169. I find that it is at best a throwback from the 70's that never caught up to the future. All the equipment is outdated, the store is dirty, disorganized, and they don't honor military for discounts. If a customer brings an item to the register that rings up the wrong price, that customer has to jump through hoops to get the cashier and the store to give them the price that was advertised or on the rack. I understand they have to be cautious, not everybody is honest, but it's ridiculous to make someone wait 10 minutes for a $2 discount. Even Walmart, will give him the discount without a problem. And for the record I dislike Walmart. read more

If you need to go to Academy, go to the south Tulsa location. This location is messy, dirty, and the workers are not helpful. Today I was in the shoe department and two of the girls were hiding from helping people and just gossiping away. The clothes area was a giant mess with things in their wrong spots and folding tables all over the area except there was definitely no folding or organizing going on. I understand with three days before Christmas it gets busy and hectic, but the workers at this location weren't even trying. The south Tulsa location though was in much better shape and people who actually were helpful. I will not go back to the midtown location. read more

Great selection and prices, but this store is manned by people that typify the entitlement generation. If you don't find what you need, it's best to just move on. The staff never offers to help and when you finally track someone down, they seem terribly put out and will only do the bare minimum it takes to get rid of you. read more

The 41st and Sheridan location is the only Academy I've ever been in. Without fail, each time I've been there, no one, I mean no one ever offers to help. They stand around talking to each other, but no ability to help. I've purchased there in spite of this, but after yesterday, NO MORE! I'll no longer drop dollars on a place that views me unworthy to help. In this case, I wanted to purchase some 45 colt bullets, and I tried on my own, but went to the counter to ask for help. I was "pointed" towards where the bullets were, rather than shown. 3 guys behind the counter, one customer at the counter, and they can't help. So, I needed an answer to a question about the bullet selections, and though I am 6'4 - 225lbs, I was invisible standing directly in front of them as they discussed who's leaving at 4pm, and AFTER their discussion, I was graciously allowed to ask my question. I bought 3 boxes of ammo, despite this. I called Sports World, who is just down the street today, and they have much better customer service and a much wider selection of ammo. I will take my business there from here on out, as it seems from the times I've been there, and the phone call that they actually "want" my business. If this is Academy's practice (which every time I've been there, I've been treated the same), I don't know how they continue to exist. Getting ready for hunting season? Looking for a safe place to shop with your family? If you decided to try out Academy, think again. I've been shopping at Academy for years because they offer competitive prices. Shopping at the Academy on 41st & Skelly, has been a horrible experience every time I go there now. I shop there for everyone in my family, from getting the kids back to school clothes and shoes, my running gear and also getting most of my hunting gear and hunting accessories. I usually know what I'm there to buy even though I might take a moment to see what else might be on sale or perhaps the newer items that just made it to the floor. Every time I shop at the 41st street local I'm followed around the store. I'm watched while I'm checking out. I'm followed around the store by employees and when my wife noticed we started recording. The employees never ask if I need help finding anything, but rather it's like a lack of social skills that prevents them from acknowledging me even after I've acknowledged them with a greeting. I've spent more than 3k in the last 6 months and I will be going to Bass Pro, and Sports World for my future needs. That kind of behavior by Academy staff, lets my wife and I know that it is not safe for us to shop there because of what color our skin is. Those of you, maybe not aware or perhaps not profiled as we are, who don't tolerate intolerance...I'm taking my money to somewhere other than Academy and letting everyone know how I have been treated.
