Before…read moreour visit we had read a story online about the woman who owned Seascape and a couple of years ago had to close it. Luckily, a young lady who worked for the previous owner recently re-opened for business. Her name is Skye and she (and her dog Rosie) are running the place with the help of her father (who we met while Skye was out on a kayak tour). She is very energetic and knowledgeable about the area. The shop is located right outside of Acadia National Park on the Schoodic peninsula side. There is great biking on the peninsula with plenty to see along the way - much less crowded than the main part of the park and just as beautiful.

We…read morehad taken the ferry over from bar harbor and walked the 15 minutes to the shop instead of taking the free shuttle. The bikes are not delivered to the ferry but that was not a problem. The bike route is full of incredible views. We stopped frequently to take pictures. There was not much traffic. If you take the bike path across the peninsula, be aware that it is a heavy gravel path with some steep winding curves and downhills. Even as experienced cyclists, we decided to walk that part. There are 2 restaurants on the loop but unfortunately both were closed on Mondays. However we found another restaurant once we returned the bikes. It was a great day.

We had kids and the carriage trails in Acadia have some hills. She accommodated all our needs, including adding bike baskets that we could take our lunch. We loved that the town wasn't crowded. I was able to ride my bike to the Brown Mountain parking for the bottom of the carriage trails just a mile or so away. Riding to it wasn't bad, but you have to share the road with drivers and you'll one hill to get there. Most people on the trail do e-bikes, but I did a regular bike that had great shocks. We had tag-along bikes for the kids on the e-bikes and that worked great for the four of them. Since I ride all the time, I was able to keep up with them (or the other way around), the whole time. Start or finish your ride with a cold brew coffee and a treat at Ardie's just around the corner. Thanks Island Bike!

We weren't prepared to go swimming but we still walked the beach and took some pictures. A lot of people were there to swim and it was pretty crowded. The air was chilly so I was surprised how many people were swimming but maybe the water was warm. I didn't notice lifeguards but there was a park ranger circulating. Plus bathrooms and changing rooms up top. At night they had a stargazing program here which we came back for which was ranger led and honestly one of my favorite memories of the trip.

The partner WOD's were killer but very doable. The coaches were friendly and answered all questions. Very reasonable pricing. I'm on vacation for a month and signed up for the month and very happy with the 3 times I went so far this past week. Looking forward to the rest of the month. They also have a great front area that my almost 5 year old stays and colors/has her ipad she can occupy herself. This Crossfit "box" ( ie gym) has it's act together…read more Located on a long, meandering hill outside Ellsworth, Crossfit Acadia's physical presence is small. The light blue pole building is as unassuming as most Crossfit boxes are. What makes this place special are the people who enter its doors. Owners Nick and Ursula both welcomed me, a travelling stranger, as warmly as all their local athletes. Both have a heart for Crossfit - both in the mechanics of doing tough workouts well and in building the sense of community that can really set this style of fitness apart from almost all others. Crossfit is tough. Sometimes very tough. To quote Crossfit Manayunk's video (search it on youtube): "sometimes you will give 110% and it just won't be enough". I have no doubt that at this box the trainers would be right there with you. Nobody is left to flounder here. I've never had a bad visit to a box but I can honestly say that my exploration of Crossfit Acadia was one of the best. The physical establishment is appealing (how do they fit so many Concept 2 rowers in that small space?), the coaches skilled and the customer/athletes friendly and welcoming. Humans of any fitness level can benefit from Crossfit and if you are fortunate enough to live within driving distance of this affiliate - I highly recommend you consider stopping by. Do it and you will never be mediocre again!
