Both leasing agents have been very attentive and helpful since day one. During my stay I needed a larger apartment as my son was moving in and Katie all but moved mountains to quickly accommodate. I always felt valued when engaging them. The complex itself is clean, secure and only a few blocks from Colorado Blvd in Old Town Pasadena. I would recommend this comped to anyone. read more

Good luck with renting here if your skin is dark - and by dark, I mean not tanned. The rental agent - white male with a ponytail was very disrespectful to my mother and myself. He made us sit there while he did nothing - stating he was waiting on an appointment. I understand being 2-3 minutes late but after 10 minutes, one would consider showing the waiting client at least one unit. Showing one unit would give an individual and idea whether or not they were even interested in renting at this property. There was a maintenance man there who even looked at us - then at him - apparently he understood what was occurring. Be wary of this place - especially if you are being assisted by the white guy with the pony tail. And no, I am not looking for low income housing. I'm actually a doctor moving to pasadena while I train at USC; my mother was planning to be my guarantor. I'm not surprised - it is 2018, the year of trump/school killings/no medical reform. read more

I lived here for a year. While it wasn't a perfect experience, it was pretty good, and on the whole, I'd recommend this place to others. First, the staff is pretty good. The maintenance guys -- Gabriel and Teddy -- are pretty responsive, and the fixes are solid in that you don't have to call them back because of an incomplete job. They're also friendly, which isn't always the case with maintenance guys. The office crew improved when Eric came onboard. I forget the name of the person who worked there before he started, but their personalities were like night and day -- Eric is super friendly and cheerful. In terms of the apartment, there wasn't much to complain about. The water pressure wasn't great. They have the most maddening countertops -- black, and would hold water stains super easily. The dining area is carpeted, which is not a great thing when you have young kids. Besides those things, though, there was a lot of great things. The closets were great and big, and had built-in shelving. The cabinets and appliances were in good shape, and it was just comfortable living there. The building went through a long renovation just before we left (which probably explains the rent hike that priced us out of the building). Ironically, with the higher rents they were charging, they were getting new tenants that, in my opinion, were more entitled. We noticed people dumping their garbage outside of the chute room, or if they opened the chute room, just leaving the trash on the floor vs. throwing it down the chute. People would let their dogs pee and poop wherever they wanted, including inside the garage. Because of that, we actually were glad to be moving. All in all, there's a lot to like about the building. Super great location, good staff, and updated apartments. It's not worth the crazy high rents they've started to charge, though, but I know that's subjective. read more

Things were always broken first off. But the biggest thing that got me was that they used their equity program as a sort of bait to reel people in. The equity program basically gives you money back towards purchasing a home from the money you use for rent. When we were sold on the apartment they told us all the money we pay for rent would go back to us, in actuality it was only 10% of what we pay goes back to us. So make sure that they are clear about the equity program. On top of that tried to boost our rent up to $3,000 if we would like to renew our lease with them as well as paying a separate fee to park in the garage. Honestly I felt like this place really conned us and probably wouldn't recommend this place to other people. read more

It is a very quiet, safe, and clean complex. It is super close to Old Town Pasadena and is walking distance to almost everything. I have been here a year and a half and love it. I'm giving them a 2/5 because in the beginning, the staff was great! Once they left, it went downhill. I'm also trying to be fair, but with these big corporation run apartment buildings, they don't care about the little guy. They just care about taking your money. My husband and I lived here for two years. We found Acappella through an internet search since we were moving from the Midwest. Staff: Eric use to work the front office and Gabriel was maintenance. Both were great, friendly, and approachable. They seemed to genuinely care about the tenants who lived there. It was shame for them to move on. The current staff that works the leasing office is terrible. They are not as friendly as Eric. When trying to retrieve a package one day, my husband got irritated because Andrew, the new leasing agent, "sighed' when my husband asked to retrieve a package. Andrew seemed irritated that my husband asked for it when he was about to close the office to show a property to a new prospective tenant. I don't think that's proper etiquette to treat a current tenant. You can definitely have the prospective tenant wait a few seconds to help a current tenant out, but hey, all they care about is signing new leases. In addition, Andrew or other leasing office staff would like to check in packages right before they closed the office. I would get notifications from usps, amazon, etc. of my package being delivered hours before receiving a package notice from the leasing office. When I brought this up with the leasing office, they said that they try to get the packages checked in as soon as possible, but that's not the truth. Packages would sit around the front desk until Andrew or another leasing office would decide to get to it. This never happened with Eric. You use to get those notifications when the package came through the door. Overall experience/issues: In addition, summer of 2017, the chestnut street elevator kept breaking down. It was broken for 3 months and at least every weekend! If someone had a disability, they would have to enter in from the Carson St. side to get to a working elevator! They are lucky no one filed an accessibility complaint with the city or state. About 10-11 months into our first year, new tenants moved below us and complained of loud sounds from our apartment. My husband and I were respectful tenants. We don't have parties, we don't stay up late, we don't play loud music, etc. The leasing office told us to quiet down. So we TIP TOED AROUND our own apartment to appease these tenants below us. But they still complained and the leasing office called us twice to tell us to stop it..but there was nothing to STOP. When we received a third complaint, we visited the tenants below us to ask what we were doing wrong, only to find out that they "supposedly" were not the ones complaining. Its frustrating to pay $2K to get complaints from other tenants when you're not doing anything wrong but walking around your apartment. Apparently these tenants were not aware of apartment life. We had a tenant before them and a tenant after them and they never complained of noise..It's also frustrating for a leasing office to bother you and not trust your word when you say you're not making any noise. Moving out: Don't even think about getting your security deposit back in totality. They will find every way to take your money. We even did a pre-move out inspection, which is a way to secure your security deposit and work on receiving a majority of it back. When had a walk through and the maintenance staff who performed it assured my husband that it would just need carpet cleaning and paint and we'd most likely see a $50 deduction of our security deposit. My husband and I even told the guy that we would rent a carpet cleaner to get the carpet clean and he said not to worry about it since it would cost about $80+ to do so so we'd just be wasting our own money. Once we moved out and received information on our security deposit 17 days later, we were charged $600 from our security deposit for cleaning, painting, and carpet replacement. I emailed Summer, another leasing office agent, back and forth to ask questions about what charges were what, submitted photos of when we moved in to show that some of the areas that we were being charged for, were not clean to begin with. It didn't matter. They have every excuse in the book to keep your money. Always be leery of signing a lease with a big corporation. They don't care about you, they care about taking your money. I wouldn't recommend moving in to any Equity Residential apartments anywhere. Refer to some of the reviews of Westgate Apartment in Pasadena . Some of the staff that works at Acappella now use to work at that facility and those reviews aren't stellar either. read more

He also pointed out different parts of the neighborhood we could walk to from the apartment -- awesome neighborhood. The apartments are nice and the one we saw had laundry and an office! Everything great until new neighbor at upper level making so much noise day and night , like banging the door , stomping hard while walking , and the most crazy thing is , they like to throw heavy stuffs even 2 - 3 AM in the morning. Tried to bang the wall to let them know to be quite , but they responded with banging louder like ten times. I know crazy neighbor, if it's in my country , this guy is done , but here we have to obey the law at any cost. It's so inconvenient to us and our dog. Our dog always hiding scared under the bed every time a loud noise from our neighbor upstairs, at least 3 times a day ! Trying to talked to the management for the 4th times. Hopefully they can taking care of this problem. read more

Although, I wrote a positive comment previously I have since had many issues which I think are very important to let residents know about. Although I did enjoy living in the community and had no issues with my stay there. The apartment was great, the service provided by onsite staff has always been helpful. However, the move out process has been a nightmare. Since moving out I have had several issues with Equity Residential. It has since been over 30 days since I moved. I diligently followed all move out policies. I left the apartment in great shape. However, I have yet to receive the deposit owed to me. I have been given excuses such as mail returned although I have received all mail sent to me by Equity at the forwarding address provided. However, somehow the check just is not making it. I have since complained and have not been provided with information on who I can contact. I only have the information to the main office who unfortunately cannot provide me with any additional information. I do not understand why I have no access to additional information or why I am being pushed around. My next step is going to be to file a formal complaint as California law states that" A California landlord has up to 21 days after the end of a tenancy to return the security deposit" It also states that "If a California landlord doesn't send the security deposit within the 21-day period, the landlord may be liable to the tenant for up to twice the amount of the security deposit" I do hope that someone will assist me with this issue because I am very disappointed and upset that a good experience has been tainted by poor business practices. read more

It is a lot to read I know. But it is important information if you are looking to live here. Pros: Garage: Covered and gated parking. Really nice. Gym: Great machines and TV's. Courtyard: Grills are great (when gas tanks are replaced). Quiet during the day and night. From what I've noticed courtyards are kept clean. Sound proof: The apartment is very quiet. Rarely could I hear the neighbors. Sound proof with the exception of freeway noise. Gated building: provides a little extra security. Area of Pasadena: Great location (minus facing the freeway). Cons: Freeway noise: If you are going to be renting an apartment facing the freeway, know that you can easily hear freeway noise from the apartment. If you plan on opening the window to get fresh air it does become a lot louder. Paint: The paint in the apartments is cheap. When you try to wipe marks off the walls (with water) the paint smears and leaves a darker smear. Carpet: The carpet used gets dirty very easily. I'm not saying I'm a super neat person, but I have never had carpet get dirty as quickly or easily. Ice machine in freezer: Not filtered (This was not mentioned, ice tasted like garlic). Lighting in bedrooms: No overhead lighting in bedrooms. At least the apartment I had. Price: I don't believe the apartment is worth the price. If this apartment was not located near old town it would not be as expensive. Also for the price, I feel like the quality of products in the apartment (carpet and paint) should be higher. I do not feel like it is too much to ask to be able to clean my walls. Pricing is one of the reasons we will not be renewing the lease. Office staff: We had issues with the initial application process. I had been specific that my parents would be covering the lease due to the fact I had just received my masters and was not yet employed. I was informed that it was acceptable for me and my brother to apply and my father would perform an additional guarantor application. Fine, no problem. After all of our credit was run ($35 a piece), we were informed that we had been provided the wrong application and that my father had to be the primary on the lease and we would be living there under his name. Now he had paid his $35 credit check fee with the other application. We were told that he needed to submit a new application with an additional $35 fee because they had to run the credit again. That money for the additional credit check was not refunded. I'm not sure why they had to run his credit again when they ran it for the guarantor application. (To summarize- 4 credit checks run on 3 people). I also have paperwork stating we were told to fill out the wrong application. Utilities: not only does the electricity cost you, you have to pay additional utility fees that they add on to the price of the rent. These are not cheap either and run at least $100 a month! Move out: They charged an early termination fee which turned out to just be a utilities fee (please explain why it is so hard to put utilities instead of early termination) I don't know if I would call it a lie, but when I was looking at the apartment I was told that the electricity bill would be low. I was informed that it would be around $40 a month. Since I had an apartment that faced the freeway I was unable to keep my windows open, unless I wanted to deal with the extra noise. Come to find out when I got my first bill that it cost about $160 a month. It would have probably been less if I had run my AC less but personally I don't think they should advertise that the bill will be $100 less unless they decide to mention that does not include running the AC. If the apartment you are planning to rent is an apartment facing the freeway, just know that it does not sound the same as the other apartments. When we originally viewed the apartments they only showed us an apartment facing Townsend Pl. The freeway noise was no where near as loud as apartments facing the freeway. If freeway sound is not something you can easily ignore then a freeway facing apartment is not for you. Yes it is cheaper to face the freeway but that's because you have to deal with semi's blaring their horns. I would not recommend this place. I think the area of Pasadena is great. To me, the additional fees, noise, and stress was not worth it and I am beyond glad I moved. read more

I personally have had a great experience at Acappella. The two units I have lived in have both been very nice, one on the freeway side and one on a small interior courtyard. While there is some freeway noise when you're closer to the 210, those units are actually less expensive than identical ones inside the courtyards as compensation. In fact, the only reason I could upgrade to a newer apartment was because of this, and the freeway noise isn't as big of a deal as once thought. The neighbors around me usually say hello to me when I see them, which is nice considering I am one of the younger and less professional looking tenants in the building. The staff is always responsive and nice to me, and whenever there's been an issue (whether it was Thomas, Linda, or Blair) it's gotten resolved. Yes, there have been cable issues like CJ said, but that was an issue I'd put on AT&T's plate. They have been ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE to me no matter what I have done and continually screwed up my service, charged me out the ass, and totally disregarded me. At the time it was obvious to me that Acappella was not at fault, considering the people who work in the office or do upkeep on the grounds probably have no idea how to fix wiring that was installed by AT&T, nor would I expect them to. Just sayin', she's not lying there, AT&T sucks. But as far as the apartments themselves, I haven't had much of an issue. In fact, it's pretty quiet around here for me. I did have a tenant move in above me who made noise, but I complained after a while, and it wasn't an issue following that. I periodically hear dogs barking, but I haven't found it to be something that's ongoing, bothersome, or at strange hours. It seems like at times of the day when their owner might be coming home or leaving, which is to be expected. As far as price, yes, it's more expensive than other apartments you might be able to rent. But for central A/C, a great location in walking distance to Old Town, secure parking, and washer/dryers in unit, I am not going to complain. We did 3 months of shopping for apartments before moving to Pasadena, and these were by far the nicest we could afford with the most perks and one of the most secure. When my friends visit they always remark on how nice the complex and my apartment is. Plus, it's really nice to be able to work out whenever I want in the fitness center (which gets premium cable, mind you) instead of springing for a gym membership. read more

This is a wonderful place to live in. I've been living here with my wife and daughter for a little over three years and we just love it. The apartments are really really nice very new and modern. There is an awesome patio area that has a lovely fountain and we do have some amazing BBQs there yummy :). Linda and her staff have been just simply amazing. They have always been there when we need anything! I'm so impressed by their promptness to any repair wether is Teddy Or Gabriel they get it done quickly and professionally. The whole building is kept very clean. And having a double gated parking has made me feel very safe about leaving my vehicle there even unattended for weeks. Theres also a fitness center which i should be using more of :/, and a game room which has recently been renovated. I recommend this place to ALL my friends and family. read more

For the rent that you pay, the facility should be a lot cleaner. The hallway carpets are usually pretty dirty. The walk ways could use a good steam cleaning. You hear dogs barking at weird hours, sometimes late, sometimes early. They have a no smoking policy that they take no effort to enforce beyond a posted sign. Depending on who you get for your maintenance call, will determine when your repairs are made. I received a notice from us mail that I had a package, they could never find it, and made no effort to figure out how a package they said was there (they also notified me by email) disappeared. To this day I have no idea what the item was or from where! I do think that the staff is "nice" but I'd rather have efficiency over niceness. No pool which is not a problem, but recently they removed the water fountain that we used to listen to at night. No notice of anything coming soon. No security cameras in the parking lot. Several instances of theft that could have been resolved or at least disuaded if there was a camera system. Not a bad building, but not worth the rent that you have to pay. P.S. - Don't rent a unit near the fwy side - kind of loud. read more

I would give 0 star but Yelp wouldn't let me. I don't even know where to start. Location: The only star goes here, close to old town. Rent: Not worth what you're paying for and they raise the rent when your lease term ends. Safety: Safe for humans, not so safe for properties. There's been thefts, the gate is a joke and the mail room was broken in. Noise: Loud music and footsteps, the walls here are paper thin and the management team can't care less about your complaints. Staff: the worst! Both Blair and Linda are your stereotypical fake real estate agents. Linda at least tries to be nice, Blair is just straight up rude and lazy. They take 3 hour long lunch breaks, and when you need help, they sound so condescending but you can tell how fake they are and they just don't give a damn about you. Maintenance: If you see a maintenance guy in the hallway and grab him then he'll fix it right away. if you call the office then those fake women will make sure you wait. DO NOT LIVE HERE. read more

I had really liked living here due to the location and Katie at the leasing office and Richard and Alfredo with the maintenance had been really helpful. Since Sunday I've been having cockroaches in my apartment, which has been my absolute worst nightmare. They are 3 inches long and they can fly and for the past few days, I have been seeing baby cockroaches. I keep my home very clean and I pay a lot to live at these apartments so I really don't expect to have this kind of problem. Now that I think back though there have been other problems as well. My washing machine had stopped working and it took over a week for the issue to be resolved. There were fire alarms going off incessantly in the middle of the night when we were having heavy rains. My roommate and I found a homeless person sleeping in the staircase. This cockroach situation has been the absolute worst though as the other issues were at least solved but being afraid to be in my own home has been the worst yet. read more

I've lived here for the past 7 years and it's hands down the best apartment complex I've lived in. The location is perfect. Walking distance to Old Town (i.e. bars, restaurants & shopping) but just far enough on a side street that it's quiet. Staff is always friendly and will accept & hold packages for you. Jose and the maintenance guys are always timely & get the job done right. Summer and her management team are amiable and available to answer questions. The units are relatively new with updated flooring, appliances and have their own washer & dryers for laundry! Only downfall is the lease is just a year long, but that's standard in Pasadena. read more

I lived here for a little over a year and had the best experience. Katie and Alex really made it easy for me to get adjusted to a new setting and new city. With the community being smaller than other properties nearby, both the management and service staff were always very responsive and attentive, which can be a rarity in rental complexes. I've also always felt the area to be safe. Things I thought were added bonuses: within walking distance to Old Town and Paseo, located within a quiet pocket of town, plenty of onsite parking (was included previously but adding charge beginning 2020), included locker service for online orders, easy to use online tools to pay rent/request service calls, and management held regular social events to get to know the residents. Rent was reasonable and in line with other complexes in the area. Management will explain but mandatory cleaning, carpet cleaning and painting fees will be deducted from your deposit at move out. Overall great experience and would recommend to any newcomers to the area. Thank you Katie, Alex, Alfredo, Richard and rest of the staff for keeping this a great community to live in! read more

I am a previous resident of Acappella apartments and I have to say it was one of the very best apartment communities I have ever lived in. I had the largest One bedroom near the freeway and surprisingly it was very quiet. This community is walking distance to everything but tucked away enough to get your peace and quiet when you need it. During the summer they do concerts in the park just one block away and you can grab a basket of snacks and a comfy blanket and enjoy some great live music. I had to leave for work, but if I ever venture back to Pasadena this would be where I venture back to. Live here you won't regret it!! read more

As a tenant, I have a wonderful experience in Acappella apartment. It is a beauiful one and is close to everything. The Memorial Park of Pasadena where you could enjoy Free Musical Concert every weekend during summer time is just one block away. Very close to old town Pasadena means exciting night life and great foods. The staff in the leasing office are even greater. Linda, the manager, always try her best to help me. Blaire will always give me a warm welcome when I go to the office and pick up my packages. It is a place I called home. read more

Spending the majority of my life doing undergraduate, medical school, residency, fellowship training, I've spent my share living at a handful of apartment complexes. For the most part, living in an apartment complex, you feel like you're one small ant in the whole ant farm just trying to get by, but that isn't the case at Acappella. Aside from the excellent location (being a few blocks away from Old Town and having a plethora of cute coffee shops, restaurants and bars at your fingertips), updated units and facilities (they have a gym, conference room, social room with a pool table / cable TV and courtyard with 2 grills), the EXCELLENT staff is what makes it amazing! It really makes my house (or apartment in this case) feel like a home!!! One staff in particular - Gabriel - has went ABOVE and BEYOND to make our stay here smooth and unforgettable. I cannot begin to rave about all he has done for me and my husband. From helping us transition with a seamless move in, to helping out with maintenance with whatever we needed in a timely and professional manner. He has even came back after his shift had ended to help us out at the apartment!!! I know it'll be a very sad day when we have to move because of the unforgettable experience we've had here! read more

Overall: nice apartments in a quiet part of town, but their prices and fraudulent rental practices make it not worth the headache. Pros: large apartments, clean, new appliances with in-unit washer/dryer, huge closets and bathrooms, community barbecue, secured garage parking (non tandem spots), close to Colorado Blvd restaurants and bars Cons: limited hours to pick up your packages at the leasing office, expensive with illegal renting practices (As of January 1, 2001, a landlord must give the tenant at least 30 days' advance notice if the rent increase is 10 percent (or less) of the rent charged at any time during the 12 months before the rent increase takes effect. A landlord must give 60 days' advance notice if the rent increase is greater than 10 percent. (Civil Code Section 827b.)) -- after our first year, Acappella raised our rent 12% with only 52 days notice. When we brought California rental law to their attention they said I would have to meet in person during my working hours to negotiate a new price and would not give me a legal price. Once my boyfriend and I moved out, they charged us for utilities after we had already left and dropped off the keys (charging us up to 4 times for sewer charges... see below, note our last day living there was 6/18/16). My boyfriend and I moved in here last year because we really loved how quiet the area was even if it's situated next to the freeway and that they had cozy amenities as well as being really close to Old Town not knowing that we'll be having a crappy experience in the first few months and the last couple of months til our lease was up. While moving in, I stepped on a really sharp object that seemed like a staple wire on the carpet which was completely unsafe, then the ac wasn't getting any cooler when we tried using it the first time. We reported the issues to the maintenance who responded rather quickly. However, after a few months into the lease, the tenant living above us would make disturbing noises at certain hours everyday. May it be heavy stomping or like a person falling on the floor or someone doing such heavy work. Really annoying noises that would wake us early morning but mostly, won't let us sleep at night. We reported about this several times to the leasing office as it had become such a nuisance to us but never got any satisfactory results. Instead, they advised us to just contact noise control if it still occurred after their office hours, and so we did. Yet, no one came to fix the problem until we probably got used to living with it unnoticeably. Lastly, towards the end of our lease, we were smelling dog pee as soon as you start walking along our hallway all the way to our unit. To think that we don't own a dog or any pets as my boyfriend is asthmatic. We assumed it was a new tenant who just moved in next to our unit since the pee smell was lingering in our living room. We then decided not to renew our lease as much as I liked the area. Our rent would've also increased stupendously if we were to renew our lease. It was ridiculous for the amount of inconvenience we've had despite enjoying our stay there somehow mid lease. I hope the new tenant where we used to stay wouldn't have to go through the same ordeal. read more

Be careful about fees. This place charged us an extra Credit Fee of $35.00 when we applied (Paid for 4, only three on the lease), and then when a system malfunction kicked our payment out (could have been a storm) charged an extra $25.00 fee on our rent. read more

Please watch out for the size of apartment before you move in. And especially after you move out, they would ask you a lot more than you put in a security deposit. read more
