I was googling places in the area that will work on leather. A lot of places refuse because of it being leather- obviously. Or, because of where I live a lot of places were popping up in NYC, which I was not driving all the way to just to have some sleeves brought up on a Superdry leather jacket.
So when I found this place online, and saw how professional the website was, I was really excited. I called in advance to make sure they were open before going over, and thank goodness I did. I'm pretty sure it's just the older gentlemen that is mostly there. Maybe has help once in awhile. So he said to come after 2:00 because he was going out to lunch. He has a thick accent so be prepared when on the phone with him- may be difficult to understand.
When I showed up, the store is very well kept and clean. I'm not sure what the "cigarette smell" complaint was, as it just smells like leather which has an old-like smell to it which may be what they were confused with. It's very well organized. He not only fixes leather but designs things of his own. From jackets to purses to chairs and other furniture.
Because it was only him, I had to wait a bit as the woman in front of me had a few items. After that, a man was there for pick up so I let him go before me. After, I explained exactly what I wanted. He measured me, marked me, we chit-chatted and that was the end of it. He wrote up my receipt (Only $45.00 for my sleeves to be brought up, woo!) and I was out the door.
On the other hand, I DO see what the complaining is about when it comes to pick up. I dropped off my jacket on a Friday and he told me it would be 10 days, but that he would call me when it was ready. Because of the reviews, I said- "I can just call you after 10 days" but he made it clear that he would call me to let me know when it was ready. Well, just like the other reviews said, after about 17 days I decided to give him a call. When I called he was nice and friendly when he picked up, although I am very friendly on the phone because I'm always sure it'll get me more than being annoyed. He asked my name and I guess couldn't find my jacket by my name. Probably because it was a scribbled receipt he wrote on. He asked what it was. I said a 'leather jacket', he asked 'long or short', I said short. He asked 'what was done' I said the sleeves were brought up. He asked if a 'purse was included', where I said no. I finally said, 'it's a women's short superdry jacket with just the sleeves brought up'. Then he said he would have to call me back.
Luckily it was only about 5 minutes before the call came in, he found it and it was ready. I will update when I actually go to pick it up this weekend, but wanted to review incase I forgot (which if I don't update this- it went well!)
Overall, like I said - place is clean and well kept. Clearly this guy knows what he's doing between the amount of customers going in and out, the schools he designs jackets for and his own work he does for selling purposes. He was very friendly, but I'm sure will not be accommodating for those who are rude to him. He has an accent and yes, is very busy so I do recommend calling after about 10 days just to double confirm your order is ready. I would use this business again, as of right now! read more
