When filing as a freelancer on 1040ES, you're supposed to pay quarterly estimates. Repeatedly over the 3 years I used Marc, he told me as long as I paid ALL of the estimated taxes by the final due date as opposed to quarters, I'd be ok and not be fined. Well I'm sitting here at 3 years since using Marc and now I have received fines from the IRS for 2 of the years I used his services. Luckily I've switched to someone else who told me I should 100% be paying quarterly and no fines so far. And also saving a couple hundred on prep costs. I cannot recommend Marc's tax prep services for this reason. If you're cutting corners on taxes it'll end up costing you in the end. I gave Marc an extra star just because he was a nice and pleasant guy but fines speak louder.

After that Henry was very difficult to get a hold of and many times simply did not call me back if I had questions about taxes. Once taxes were filed Henry DID NOT file my federal taxes. I received a letter in the mail from the IRS saying they were not filed and I had to file them on my own using TurboTax which I had to pay for. Fast forward, Henry is now calling me saying I owe him a total of $400 therefore I owe him $200 on top of the $200 I had already paid. I would NEVER have agreed to pay $400 to have taxes filed. How dare this man pursue me for money I never agreed to pay nor did I have knowledge that he wanted to charge $400. Especially for work that was way below par. BE WARNED.

My last straw with a declining business. This stems back to a dispute from last tax year--they did not review my return carefully, resulting in a careless error in reporting out of state income I documented and a five-month delay in getting my state refund. They were casual and non-communicative about a letter from the state with a deadline for response, to which I had to rush a reply to get a postmark to be in legal compliance. They were indifferent that a significant refund was at stake. In a previous year, a server went down and they lost all returns. Careless. Another year we had to submit additional documentation to the state as they said that their software had a glitch which affected many clients' returns. Bureaucratic and unreliable. Tony used to provide a personal touch. But it's a large bureaucratic operation, he doesn't even give a simply reply like "I'm working on this matter" when he is CC'd on an urgent matter. The receptionist tell you "it was on Tony's calendar for last week," not "Tony has taken care of this." It used to be in person annual appointments, then went to Zoom, and then became by telephone. The amount of time was reduced very year, even as fees outpaced inflation. It's overpriced, and the service and reliability are not at all what they used to be. Tony used to be a nice guy and very professional, but he's only a shadow of what he used to be.

I&U CPA was one of the only places with great reviews and VERY reasonable rates. They were also the fastest to respond to my questions. The whole process was so painless and easy. Unlike other places where I'd have to arrange an in person meeting and bring in physical documents (ex. H&R block), I was able to upload everything to a secure portal from home. Even though I'm sure they were very busy with other clients, I always felt like we were a priority. I got updates and emails from them at all hours of the day, even well past their work hours. Responses were always within a few hours, if not minutes. And within a week, our taxes were completed and filed, stress-free! To my surprise, the extra cost of going with a professional vs. doing it ourselves using turbo tax paid off too. Before going with I&U CPA, we tried turbo tax and H&R block's online program, and every which way we tried manipulating the numbers, the refund calculated using the 2 programs always came out within 100 dollars difference of each other. We felt we had a good idea of what our refund would be this year. I&U CPA, however, was able to find other deductions that added up to over an additional $1000 in tax refunds.
