I am a new homeowner and prior to discovering this gem, I was visiting Lowe's on a bi-weekly (if not more) basis. Let me just say... I hate going to Lowe's. Not to bash them, but it often feels like their staff are not interested in helping me, and I just can never seem to find what I need without googling the item first and locating it myself. I dread going in there. ANYWAY... I recently discovered that I live in quick driving distance from this Ace Hardware location. I was in desperate need of shelf pins for my kitchen cabinets- specially the 1/4 " size. I had looked everywhere for them- Lowe's and Home Depot, multiple locations for both. I even ordered some off of Amazon and the wrong size was sent to me. When I discovered this Ace Hardware, I called them first to ensure they had the size shelf pins I was looking for. To my delight, they answered the phone right away and let me know they had the size I was looking for in stock. I made the short drive there and found exactly what I was looking for and more. I have been to this location 3x since then. Every time I have been greeted with a friendly smile by one of their employees. Honestly, this place is like a breath of fresh air. I am so relieved to have found it and feel so lucky they are so close to my new home. I am a rewards member now and look forward to visiting many, many more times. This used to be one of the great hardware stores. Staff knew what they were doing, helpful etc. Lately, no one one knows a nail from a tub of caulking, they aren't helpful, not pleasant to deal with. Seriously, what happened here? Rolliers is a drive, but worth it right now. read more

Absolutely unacceptable customer service experience at this location... on 10/22/24 I placed an online order around 7pm. I waited for my confirmation email that my order was ready for pickup before leaving my house as I had roughly a 30-35 minute drive in. This store closes at 8pm. Much to my dismay, I arrive at 7:41 to see a handwritten note on the door stating "Closed, we are closed at 7:30 pm on 10/22/24 closed." I saw employees inside laughing/joking around. I knocked on the door. A man approached and I explained that I had an order to pick up and he inconsiderately just pointed to the closed sign on the door without saying a word. I explained to him I had driven 30 mins to pick up my order which was already paid for and that I was there before the store closing time of 8pm. He replied "you'll just have to come back tomorrow." I explained that I couldn't come back tomorrow, to which this employee smugly pointed at the handwritten closed sign on the door again and said "oh well, too bad." The man who I'm told is named Matt F. (Shorter, ponytail, brown hair, no glasses) was the individual I had this unfortunate encounter with. I was offered no verbal explanation for the store closure or apology for the inconvenience of having to drive 1 hour back and forth for a simple pick up during standard hours. The handwritten note on the door also did not state the reason for early closure.I am absolutely appalled at this employees disrespectful attitude and lack of understanding/common courtesy. From a management perspective, I would not tolerate this behavior, and would promptly reprimand this employee. I will not be returning to Ace Hardware (which i frequent) based upon this experience and will gladly take my business elsewhere. I will also be sure to relay my experience to others any chance I get. A note to Store Manager Brittany Simmons, I respectfully request that you please action this formal complaint. read more

Love this store. Local straightforward, what ever you need, and not a warehouse of stuff ! Super nice helpful people work here. You'll always be relieved you were able to get it done here, instead of fighting traffic to get to/from a big box store. I'd borrowed a drill from a family member, and bent a bit. They had the right size as a single, didn't have to get a whole other set. That and a gift card, hopefully I'm still in the circle of trust!!! read more

Super glad to have this little hardware store right by my house. It's not so massive that I get lost in it like Lowe's, yet it has everything I usually need on the fly. The employees are also very friendly and helpful. Whenever I'm looking lost, it seems someone appears from out of nowhere to help me. They also have Valspar paint brand and a good selection of colors. Plus, it's super fast to get it mixed up. Of course, since they're smaller the prices are going to be slightly higher than Lowe's or Home Depot, but I"m okay with that if it means saving time not having to wander aisles upon aisles and not have help from anyone. read more

My favorite small local hardware store in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately I don't live very close to Ace in Greentree anymore so I don't get to shop here as often. But when I lived close by I was here ALL the time. Sometimes twice a week. You can find a lot of stuff you need here versus going to a big box hardware store. Love that they offer Valspar paint. My absolute favorite paint brand. All the employees are always helpful and knowledgeable. They will take however much time you need helping you find things and answering questions. Their prices are not even any more expensive then Home Depot or Lowe's. Please shop @ Ace in Greentree and support a small local business! read more

I come here for everything I need for my home projects . The employees are professional and experienced . Always helpful . It is easy to get in and out unlike places like Lowes or Home Depot where you have to park a mile away and wait in long lines . This IS your father's hardware store. Walk in and it smells like hardware, if it's big or small they will have it. A few years ago I undertook a pretty good size project that I had no business even undertaking. I had more questions than a priest in a confessional and the great associates here at Greentree hardware answered each one of them for me, even drawing me a diagram for one tricky part of this project. When I went to purchase some things I thought I might need, the associate told me not to waste money buying a certain brand and the cheaper part would be just fine. Now that's service! Now, I'll go out of my way to give this place my business and keep them a float. read more

I guess around early 2014 I noticed Dennis had left for greener pastures after 20+ years with the local fixture. All my subsequent visits were handled by an increasingly younger staff that didn't know crap about the products they were selling. Was very sad to see Dennis go after frequenting the store for over a decade. Apparently the store is either closing or being reset by DoItBest corporate, but who am I to say? I only know I miss Dennis, his daughter, and their attention to the needs of customers. read more
