Everything that can be amazing about a store is happening at Rollier's. I first went there at age 5. I'm 70 now and My kids are calling me saying, "Mom, we needed Tinners Red Paint on the job. Couldn't find it. I said I bet Rolliers has it. And they did. I went in there and it's all you said and more. Every employee knows where everything is. They know things. Service..... Chris the manager is absolutely horrible. My husband asked for some assistance. He said give him five minutes. My husband said five minutes to like confirm and he said how about one minute then walk down to the next aisle and said that fucking asshole can wait 45 minutes but I guess he didn't know that I was his wife and standing next to him when he said it I thought managers were supposed to have better customer service than that. After this experience I will not be spending a penny in this store. and if I were you guys, I would definitely look into getting a new manager. read more

Love. Love. Love. Love. I was in town visiting family and I wanted to manifest some art supplies for my nieces. I placed a quick call to Rollier's and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. They let me know that they had some watercolor crayons and that they would hold them for me at the front desk. I popped over and ended up buying a plethora of fun craft items. The staff were personable throughout my interactions with them. If you need hardware, or homeware, or craft supplies, or cooking supplies, or basic food items, and so much more - they have it here. The store is well organized and you can tell that the staff take genuine delight in assisting their customers. My family and I have shopped at Rolliers frequently throughout the years. It's a nice , quaint hardware store which is invaluable. Regarding customer service, I have experienced very friendly older workers but I take issue with the younger ones. They don't even look at you, and aren't friendly. They are just going through the motions. It's just rude. Maybe you can reappoint them to fast food where their rude treatment is more acceptable. read more

I was there today, and I had the rudest cashier I have ever encountered in my life. No hello when you are in line, straight to ringing. When I questioned the price that rang up vs the price listed, she just stared at me & said maybe it's a different one did not offer to go and check or call someone for help. Lazy and rude. I had a lamp with a pull cord to turn on and off. Pull cord did not work. I could not turn lamp on. I asked if they repaired lamps and they said yes. I took it in and 15 minutes later it was fixed. It cost me $20 for the repair. To replace the lamp would have cost over $300. The man who fixed the lamp was very knowledgeable and also very personable. This is what a hardware store is suppose to be like. Forget Lowe's and Home Depot. Go here for a real hardware store. There is parking in back and from what I could see the prices are very reasonable. read more

I remember reading an article about Roller's when I first moved to the south hills, and it talked about the employees there - and that many of them had worked there since they were young, and some for 30+ years. As soon as you walk through the doors, that culture is clear. The employees are extremely helpful in all departments! I couldn't believe when I went to have keys duplicated, they were actually cut by hand! Rollier's is more than just your local hardware store. You can pick up mulch, and pumpkins for your outdoor needs - or toilets, and bathroom vanities! Rollier's has it all, and it's great to support local businesses. Recently, I was really impressed when I stopped in around the holidays. From the trees, to the unique Christmas decor, this place is an awesome spot to pick out some new decor for your home! Moving in day, I walked to Rolliers to get a few odds and ends. Not impressed infact infuriated. Rude people working. Over priced , and was stopped in my way out the door to see what I had in my purse as if I hadn't paid for everything I got. In my purse in addition to the usual girls stuff, I had baggies with furniture screws labeled with what they go to, and the sink adapter that he thought I stole. I had to point out the wrench marks and nasty insides. I had brought it with me to match it up but decided I could get it cheaper anywhere else. I did purchase a hex screw driver. The guys behind the plumbing counter are awesome. They're always helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and know exactly what part is needed and can order anything if they don't have it. My tub has an outdated valve system and when my valves first failed, I was referred to Rolliers to see if they had the part. Sure enough, they had it and I was able to get both issues fixed the same day I had stopped in looking for a part that most hardware stores don't even carry. I have had the pleasure of working with Brett for the past few months. When we purchased our new house, we knew we wanted quality air filters for specific rooms. After researching, I found Austin Air Filters and saw that Rollier's was a distributor for them. Brett spent so much time reaching out to Austin Air and working with me directly to ensure that I purchased the correct filters and sizes for what we were trying to accomplish. He was quick to respond to emails and was always so friendly and patient on the phone. Our move got delayed and they were kind enough to store the filters for us until we were able to pick them up. Some of the filters arrived damaged and he went above and beyond getting it resolved. He even was kind enough to open the replacements and verify that they worked for us upon arrival. Brett's customer service exceeded all expectations and his knowledge and willingness to help was sincerely appreciated. No more Lowe's or Home Depot for me - they earned my loyalty when they cleaned out my antique crystal doorknobs and got them in working order. RUDE OWNER DOUG/luckily (mostly) great, helpful employees APPARENTLY AFTER READING OTHER REVIEWS, MGT AND OWNERSHIP DOES NOT WANT TO BE BOTHERED ASKING ABOUT PROJECTS, SO BUY YOUR RELATED PRODUCT ELSEWHERE DON'T ASK, IT WILL GET UGLY he actually flew out of his store to confront me, though at the time when i saw him i didn't even realize who it was since he never came to the desk (see below), in the parking lot near 10-15 minutes minutes after i had left (i was in my car with the door open putting caps on my keys and placing them on my key ring). i could he was SEETHING: "DID YOU HANG UP ON ME?" what? "WERE YOU THE ONE THAT JUST HUNG UP ON ME?" are you doug? "YES AND YOU JUST HUNG UP ON ME..." no, i couldn't even reach the phone base what are you talking about. i had to tell him to please calm down that he was making me uncomfortable. an unpleasant uncomfortable. UNNECESSARY dialogue ensued, then i couldn't get him out of the way of my door (i guess he wasn't done spewing and complaining) so i could leave. while driving away (my convertible top was down) i yelled over to him that thank god attitudes don't run downhill in his store, he'd be out of business. next thing i know he's SCREAMING at me from the side walk. yeah, it was a scene, but i coudln't believe the NERVE OF HIM. i found it ridiculous that he told me i was interrupting his lunch, fine (while thinking whiny crabby rude) "manager", i understand i apologized, no need to come to the desk, and then insulted my intelligence in asking me if did my homework yet. despite that i was unusually calm--something like this would normally throw me into a verbal tizzy with merchant--but i just got my stuff and left. YOU WON'T INTERRUPT YOUR LUNCH TO HELP A CUSTOMER, YET YOU COME FLYING OUT TO THE PARKING LOT 10 MINUTES AFTER INSULTING ME TO VERBALLY ATTACK ONE AND COMPLAIN THAT (YOUR EMPLOYEE, NOT ME) JUST SLAMMED THE PHONE DOWN ON YOU. this was all because i i thought it would be a great idea to ask about products for an herb garden "projece, no different than the questions to the employees in the differing departments about those projects i had. when i asked, the 2 individuals in the garden department looked at me like it was an off the wall question and said they knew nothing about growing herbs. ok. so i asked at checkout--got the same answer and weird response. they said they would call "Doug". i went back to the key section for a swap of something, came back, 10 minutes later, still no Doug. so she called him again. this is where things went downhill. i could overhear some laughing (which weirdly felt like snickering) but i brushed it off. finally, she stretches the corded phone receiver, from her reach and out of mine, over to me and i said hello sorry to "bother" (me a customer bothering who i thought would be a manager) you, and he interrupted me and said twice, its really hard to each lunch around here. errr ok, whining to customers????? i apologized (for what i'm not sure) and then he said it again. so figured i'd make it short and to the point, thinking about growing an herb garden, do you know anything about that--what products do i need (to buy)? he literally asked me if i researched it on google yet. (the thought of growing an herb garden was fleeting, not planned and researched when i walked past the seed packages) this set me off, not only did i waste 15 minutes waiting on him, i'm now being treated as if i didn't know i could research growing herbs gardens on google when i'm trying to BUT PRODUCT. "no i haven't but thanks for the advice...goodbye" and thought to myself i'll buy my products elsewhere, handed the phone back to the girl, who, i thought in passing, weirdly kind of not so gently placed it back on the cradle. i told her that he was rude and dismissive; she apologized, i mumbled under my breath and left with my purchase. dude, i said thanks but no thanks and goodbye. go look at your freaking cameras to figure out who hung up on you, it certainly wasn't me. every time i've been to rolliers i've mostly gotten great service with questions in the different departments and at the checkout. i've made purchases there only a handful of times--i find their prices generally higher than other comparable stores, which i guess is to be expected, but when its a more convenient quick fix location for me, i buy there. Rollier's is a great little hardware store. You can actually find quite a lot there without having to go to a big box store like Lowes or Home Depot. Their prices are a tad bit more expensive than the larger hardware stores. However I am willing to pay a little more to support a local business. My only complaint is the customer service can sometimes be sparse. A lot of times when you need help finding something or you have questions it can be hard to find an employee to help you and if you do find someone sometimes they act like you are bothering them. It can be a bit frustrating if you're going in there knowing you're gonna need help or have questions. Other than that Rollier's is great and I shop there all the time! read more

So here's the thing... we bought a house in Dormont and it was so nice to discover a "larger" hardware store that wasn't a big box name. Plus, it's only a mile from my place, perfect! So I head here for a quick pick-up for some three-way switches (ordered by the handyman who was working on my electric at home). I had no clue what I was looking for and had saved a note on my phone. I walk in and find the first person I see. A woman who was in a Rollier's apron, standing by a cash register reading the Post-Gazette. I asked her politely if she worked there. She slowly responded "yeah" hardly looking up. I read off what I needed from my phone and again, barely looking up, pointed to the back and said "lighting, in the back." I stood there for a second and realized she was blatantly blowing me off. Customer service is so important... and I would expect a locally owned hardware store to have excellent customer service. Why? I guess because the big box stores are cheaper and maybe more accessible. But compared to the excellent service I experienced at Home Depot every time I've been in, this was a real letdown. I did find a nicer employee who showed me exactly what I needed in the back, but still. I won't say I'll never go in again, but it definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. read more

I have zero complaints about Rollier Hardware, and I'm as handy as Zsa Zsa Gabor! Rollier is like a smaller version of Lowe's crossed with Michael's Arts and Crafts and Frank's Shoes over in Caste Village. And when I say that it is smaller, I don't mean that it's small. In fact, it's deceptively spacious, with things to gawk at 'round every corner. There's even a big parking lot out back. They sell, paint, lighting fixtures, sinks, drill bits, electrical cords, Badger lip balm, X-Mas decorations, Carhartt apparel, ladders, picture frames, hammers, nails, screws, saws, *gasp*. That's just a fraction of what they pack in here too. I can't even remember everything I saw, and I cased the joint. This is the Saks 5th Avenue for the git 'er 'done, hurr hurr, set. All I walked out of here with was a pair of leather work gloves for about 8 bucks, so they aren't all that bad pricewise either. Now, yeah, I could have gotten the gloves at Home Depot, but don't they get enough money? The good old fashioned neighborhood hardware/variety store still has a lick of a chance after all, and this is one primo example. Don't be deterred by the swanky zip code. You'll likely find just what you need here in this classy, immaculately kept store for that household job you've been putting off since last Spring. read more

My husband and I moved to Mt. Lebanon last year from out of state, and we love going to Rollier's. Neither of us are particularly "handy" so when we go there we rely on the staff working in the departments to help us with our home repair needs. Together we have gone to talk to different people about: indoor paint to combat smoke smell, de-humidifiers & outdoor gardens and have always received friendly, well-rounded and detailed information. A man even helped me figure out how to hang curtains without using a power drill, when I came in very flustered not being able to get screws directly into the wall (I told you guys I wasn't handy!). I also want to praise Rollier's for their selection of HIGH END PET FOODS! I think they should advertise this more because it is very difficult to find these pet foods in the South Hills. They brands including but not limited to: Orijien, Fromm's, Wellness & Taste of The Wild. We do rotation feeding with our pets, so a variety of high end pet foods is a must! I hope they start carrying Addiction Pet Foods soon. Would also be great if they carried bio-bags, bio-degradable dog waste bags. My husband and I are on a modest income, but we prefer to support local business as much as we can. We will continue to shop here because of the friendly, knowledgeable staff, convenient to location to our home and wide-range of products. read more

This is a Fantastic Hardware Store. I found a really old chrome 1930's FAN at trader jack's flea market last Sunday. SUPER COOL FIND ! anyway , it had a dryrotted electric cord and a bad 3 speed pull chain type switch. Rolliers had an exact replacement for the switch and a retro vintage looking cloth covered electric cord. I was very impressed. The Staff was very helpful and happy to assist me. ( unlike the jagoff's at lowes and home depot) Support Local !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant stress this enough ! With some advice and tip's from my favorite electronics store in Squirrel hill. Imagine those hardware stores you see on tv / movies where the you can go and know that you will get reliable help, well Rolliers is that place. The concept of customer service and expertise is not something of a past era. I have been here more than a dozen times for reasons and I have never left disappointed. I walked in with door knob pieces for a 100 year old door - not only did they know exactly what I was looking for, they had dozens to choose from to make sure that I had the exact ones I needed. I could only imagine the look of bewilderment that I would get if I walked into that big orange or blue "home centers" with the same questions. I have gone back since and will continue to go back over and over again because I trust what I am told when I ask questions - something that is hard to find these days. Yeah, some of the items might be a little more costly (not much from my experience) but that extra pays for customer service that you don't get from someplace that is concerned with shareholder profits. I would rather pay a little more and know that I am getting what I need for the job the first time rather than wasting my time over and over again. read more

Please note that this review is based solely on our recent experience with the lamp repair guy. On 6/19, we dropped a lamp off for a parts update. We knew it was complicated job and were by no means expecting next week service. Thank goodness because 2 months later, the lamp was in its original position untouched. They didn't order parts and the 6 week delivery date promised passed by uneventfully despite our attempts to follow up When I went in person to follow up today, he told me he "didn't even want the job and we could take our lamp back" (untouched, not updated and putting me back to square 1. I'm surprised by the complete lack of respect for me as the customer and expect more. This experience wouldn't have come as a surprise at a big box store, but customers are paying more for the smaller independently owned alternatives and expect the service to go with it. Also one thing to consider is that they don't accept responsibility to damage that could occur when the lamp/fixture is in their possession. So I would think twice about trusting them with an heirloom or valuable piece. Very disappointing experience. read more

I asked what I thought was a gentleman who grunted an aisle and then lectured me on how I couldn't use a spray varnish. I am an artist. Rollier's is a top notch hardware store. The staff is very polite and are always available to answer questions. The guys in the plumbing section are very knowledgeable. A few months ago I was replacing my parents dishwasher and my father asked me to connect to the garbage disposal, after I was about 90% complete. My wife and mother were out shopping, so asked them to pick a flexible cap fitting. The really didn't know what I was talking about, so they called me when they got to the plumbing section. My mother asked a worker if he would mind talking to me on the phone, he obliged. I then told him what I needed and he pulled if of the shelf. I have a hard time imagining this encounter from a big box store. More recently I went there to get some toggle bolts to hang a some cabinets. I bought a candy bar for my 2 year old son, and the cashier was very polite. She even gave my son his one little brown bag for his candy. I highly recommend you shop here whenever possible.
