What do I like about this Ace Hardware store? The fact that the staff is super nice. They are knowledgeable and many have been there for years and years. Sure, some of their items may cost a bit more than buying something on Amazon but these people are locals. Buy local and support local economy when you can! Also they have all sorts of gifts and products to buy that aren't just hardware so it's a fun experience to go buy your hardware supplies and then browse for gifts and treats. read more

Ellenton: Nightmare! I had to return a charging cord which was defective and cheap. Nicholas in customer service was rude, insulting, didn't listen to me and asked unnecessary questions about my return. I have had trouble with him before. Then, I had to take the return to a front cashier, where I requested a manager. She immediately defended his bad behavior, age profiled and gaslighted me. She kept mentioning "old fashioned" which I found to be very insulting. As I was leaving, a chorus of hillbilly cashiers were laughing at me...These people are useless and belong in Ellenton. The "Ace is the place for the helpful hardware man" has left the building. Like another Yelper said, there are bigger stores with more products at better prices. Ace's reputation for having great workers to assist you is why people come here. I really hate giving low ratings but I was being generous with two stars. We were given by a couple different workers the 'it's down this aisle' They didn't even attempt to show us where to find a small item in a sea of other small items. One very tall man even seemed to have a bad attitude to us. And I am never have a problem with service. One gentleman (smaller with mustache) actually smiled and sincerely asked if I needed help. He earned a star by himself. The store is good size and has a decent amount of inventory. We will go here for an emergency but will do our shopping elsewhere. Most of the staff wearing the red vests were not wearing masks. Some stocking were wearing the neck gaiters. This is ridiculous considering they work with the public. Indoors. 4 stars for the service, but 2 for the prices. Ace reminds me of that corner hardware store your dad took you to as a kid. There was an old guy that knew where everything was and practically knew what you wanted as you crossed the threshold of the entrance. This Ace is like that, it's just for bigger ticket items there's no comparison with Home Depot or Lowe's, unfortunately. A very unprofessional store I've bought a lot of things at this store for 13 years never again. I rented a trailer from them the guy that hooked it up has a rag on his head chewing tobacco in his mouth and black teeth. He noticed I didn't have a hook up for the lights, I forgot to bring it with me so instead of him unhooking the trailer and letting me go get the adapter at home I live right around the corner not even a quarter mile away and I said I'll go get it he goes no you gotta buy one he won't unhook the trailer now I have to go buy a hook up for the trailer lights, a day later I go in to return the adapter and they won't take it back they said it was used well duh, the guy made me buy it wasn't gonna let me leave so when I went to return it I asked for a manager and got screamed at by him I mean this guy's an idiot. Every time I go to Ace there are plenty of workers willing to help. The store is well stocked and clean. Returns with receipts are easy. I know that it's a bit more expensive but I prefer to support local businesses when I can. read more

Have to go with a lot of the reviews on this one. Ace Hardware has always been my go to place for helpful knowledgeable people for help when I needed it. Went to this Ace for the first time today and when asked if I needed some help I said sure and showed her what I needed and ask for some help with a color. Just point me in the right area I asked. She said; when you find what you want let me know". The body language, the tone of her voice and the way she immediately walked away, she might as well have said, I really didn't want to be bothered with you. I walked a out and won't be back. I just moved here and this is as close to the local hardware store I grew up with. Lots of staff roaming the aisles asking how they can find what you need (big boxes used to do this...now you have to hunt someone down). If you need a couple of bolts, pipe fittings, or a tool that's missing from your toolbox, this is the place to go if you're in Ellenton/Palmetto. To my fellow neighbors in the Ellenton and Parish area. Please don't give the ace hardware (Ellenton) your business. Today my father was mistreated by their staff. I was there to witness how hateful these people were to him. Let me firstly begin by saying that my father spent a lot of money at this location. He visits them once to twice a week for his routine lottery tickets and yard equipment. Long story short, I was looking at the Oakley hats when I noticed one of the old white ladies staring at me; which was no big deal to me. [I get it, I have a big beard lol]. My other brother was at the register buying my father one of the Oakley hats as a belated birthday gift. In which was the same style hat my dad was wearing in a different color. My father went to walk to front while he waited for us, when the same white lady said rudely; "Did you buy that hat yet". So, my father replied, "Excuse me are you implying that I stole this hate"? I heard what she said and how she said it; so, I turned towards what was happening. The lady had this big ol' grin on her face. Like a smirk, as if something was amusing. My father asked for a manager and she started laughing, saying...okay! Like some kind [excuse my language] mega bitch. My father can be a hot head, but in this situation; he was cool, calm and collected. Definitely was angry, but did not once use profanity or excessively raise his voice. I went to this ACE Hardware store on 12/1/2020 to find some bicycle grease. I noted not a single store employee was wearing a mask. I noticed a couple of the customers in the store also not wearing a mask. I couldn't get out of that store fast enough! I went to my local Ace Hardware today for an item that I doubted would be on the shelf and if it wasn't I wanted to see if it could be ordered. Well I went to the customer service counter and stood there for '5' minutes waiting. I didn't ring the buzzer because there were '5' employees back there, '3' of which looked at me. I started thumping the counter when one came up to me and asked if I needed something. I live in ellenton for 8 years and I have purchase at this store since then. Today I went to spend some money at the store and when I was in line waiting, the center cashier (tall white lady with glasses) ignored me. Another customer went to her and she help her before me, so I moved forward to another cashier. Apparently the cashier that I was waiting for have some issues and the cashier that ignored me was available. When I move to her she rudely sent me to a line that was formed after I moved. Pick and choose customer is not good business.I left to home depot and I'm glad I did. I save 8$ for the same products. Well we have been going there for several years and using the coupons we get from rewards. We always buy a bag of Big Green Egg charcoal every time. Went today and spent 75 bucks on assorted items (including Big Green Egg charcoal). We pay and the lady says that the $10.00 off coupon came off. On our way out my hubby checks the receipt. The coupon didn't come off. We go back to register and the lady says hmmm, well maybe you didn't spend enough on regular prices items. Ok, well we added something else, she had to rerun the whole transaction, took forever. Coupon still didn't work. She calls the rudest manager over. Who states rudely " well it doesn't work on Big Green Egg stuff, so there you go ". He's such a rude jerk first of all, but then why don't you tell your employees these rules so we didn't waste a half hour of our time. This is the last visit to Ace ever! read more

I have been doing business with this store since 1995 when I moved to Erie Road. I find most employees to be kind and courteous and helpful. One employee offered to come to my home at the end of his shift and unload the grill from my truck if needed. (He saw that I was on oxygen and he was concerned that I may need assistance) I didn't need to take him up on his offer, but I was very touched by that. I have returned several items in the past without any issues. I have been sent to the store by my handy man to pick up something simple which he has described to the tea to me. Every time I have asked employees to help me find that item, they have found the very item I am seeking... no problem. But I must say when the person named Steve assists me, I usually end up with the wrong item and have to return it. When I go shopping at the Ace store in Ellenton, I check out all the aisles and look at all the merchandise to see what is new in the store. So I usually spend at least an hour in the store every time I go. Shoplifting cost stores billions of dollars across this nation. So when I do see Ace employees in the background checking on me as I linger in the aisles, I am not offended because I have nothing to hide and that is part of their job. You may pay a few cents more shopping at a local store instead of the Big Box store. But your going to pay for the extra gas to get to the big box store, get no assistance when you get there, because big box does not have enough staff to assist customers. This place is hit or miss. Some of the clerks have no clue at all. But....... The worst thing is you better purchase the proper products because trying to return anything is a miserable experience. This is not based on single experience. Every occasion I have tried to return anything they make you feel like you are you are taking money for food for their children. Very uncomfortable. I try not to go there but sometime paying 40% more than the big box store on a small item is acceptable .Yes I said 40% Cant wait till there is some local competition to open and give them a run for the money. Very impressed that such a small store can cover so many bases so perfectly...and so immaculately shelved. You might save a buck here or there at a bigger Home Depot or Walmart but they had at least four common items I couldn't anywhere else. There was, also, staff present everywhere. I purchased a brand-new Toro Recycler push mower for $329.00 plus tax at Boardman, Ohio Ace Hardware store..long story short my user manual was missing with this mower and I was told by an employee that he would email me one..this was my first time ever in an Ace hardware store..this was June 11th..it's now June 29th..I've sent an email to the ace site..I've gone back into store..I believe it was the manager who took my name, my phone number, and my email address, so the employee that said he would send it to me on June 12th would be reminded about what he said..this lady manager wasn't doing anything at the time why didn't she try to get me some answers..the customer service was excellent the day I bought this expensive mower..but, that's where it ended..I'm 60 years old and I saved up for a long time to get this mower..I'm so upset that no one has been willing to take the time and help me get my user manual..I don't think I've ever been treated so badly in my whole life..I posted a review hoping that would get me my user manual..but it never got posted..even I know a nasty review won't get posted..I'm upset not stupid..there's a lot of good reviews, but I woulda posted a good review too if I didn't have to wait on customer service going above and beyond which none of these reviewers had to do..I refuse to use my mower cause I can't afford to purchase another one if I do something wrong..what do I gotta do that I haven't done already.. read more

We've been using the Ellenton store since moving here in May 2016, probably doing business there weekly purchasing everything from a new grill, to wood, to paint, to screen and even a new chip car key, etc., etc., etc., all as we update our "new" retirement home. Never had an issue at the store until today. My wife wanted to purchase paint for another of her projects, I was under the weather so I gave her my debit card, the little Ace Rewards card they scan and off she went. 30-minutes later she is home in tears. It seems that the cashier would not let her use my card - regardless of the fact that my wife had her Florida DL; her dependent military ID (WHICH also has MY name on it !!), my Ace Rewards card, etc., etc. Even speaking with the manager, who recognized her and knew she was a regular customer, made no difference. My wife stated that the cashier's attitude towards her was borderline snobbery and discriminatory in her mind given she is Colombian and doesn't speak "perfect" English - even though she is and has been a naturalized American citizen for 14 years. Wondering if she had produced her American Passport if that would have been enough for her to purchase that can of paint. Bottom line, we will no longer do business with this store. This store carries a lot of product for its square footage. They keep it well-organized so it doesn't feel so cramped. The staff greets you and always asks if they can assist you. Most, not all, can help you with your needs. Nate and Derrick are great!!!!! Zane is pretty good too. But STEVE, on the other hand, is rude, unaccommodating, lazy, slow, doesn't know how to look things up and walks around like he's the King of Prussia!!! Not a big deal, right? WRONG!!! He's one of the ass't. managers. Unbelievable!!! So this is the guy you have to deal with for problems, returns, etc. Good luck with that!!! I have never been so poorly treated and I, literally, have bought thousands of dollars from this store specifically. Steve knows this, but it doesn't matter to him. He has absolutely NO customer service skills and really doesn't care. I've never met the owner of the store, but I think he/she needs to send this guy to a course on how to solve problems and treat people right...or get rid of him. And my father is/was a loyal customer for years too. He, too, recently had an issue with Steve trying to return a new pkg of light bulbs a couple of days after purchasing them. Steve wouldn't replace these defective bulbs accusing him of breaking both. Gimme a break! Seriously? Who, in their right mind, accuses customers of wrong-doings? Even if you think it, you don't say it! You resolve the problem and keep the customer's business! And all this over a $5 pack of bulbs which cost my father more money than that to run to this store 3 times in resolution to this issue. They lost his business AND they've lost all my business which actually means something because Ace stores are individually owned/operated. We both shop at Crowder's Ace now!!! read more
