We found the perfect place for her in Shalom Park! The nursing quality and other staff were so attentive and our mother actually enjoyed her stay! There is one room which is a double (less per individual cost), but the rest are single, private rooms. What makes this a charm of a place that the care givers seem really engaged in the resident and resident's family. A good set of events and comradery of residents was very evident. When we visited, an ice cream social just ended and most all of the residents were outside enjoying it. It was a super warm environment and felt like all were part of a bigger Brookdale GV (Greenwood Village) family. The room we saw had a bathroom with a shower. As with other places, you furnish your own room with your own items (bed, dresser, etc). On the down side, the single room was smaller than what was being looked for and did not include a refrigerator nor kitchen/sink area. There is also a non-refundable initial fee which makes it difficult to chose their place with enough confidence that you are sure it is a match before you try it. Their memory care area is in the first floor in the same building as their rehab. Their Assisted Living is in a separate building across the parking lot.

I met him there the day he was transferred from the hospital. I immediately called and texted pics to my brother and said I don't have a good feeling about this, he's going to fall! I prayed I was being overly worried but sure enough the first night he fell & there after he fell at least once a day sometimes 2 or 3 times.. every time I went in the nurse would say he fell again, that's if a nurse made an appearance. I asked what they could do about it?! he came there for rehab. He hadn't walked in 3 weeks prior and was there to get his strength back.. and they just let him do what he wanted. I asked can they move rooms different bed any options?! all they would say is oh , we can't restrain him. Yes, I'm aware of that. I said I didn't ask you to restrain him. I said he is falling! What can we do? Of course I got the cold shoulder like why is this woman asking us questions? I would love to see it if it was their parents in there how they would act! And I was being calm. I hope they would be advocating for their person. And the sad part about it is every complaint and worry I had, came true. He fell more times than days he was there and was actually sent to another hospital for one of the falls with over 20 stitches in his leg, then back to BROOKDALE against all of our wishes then, while we were frantically looking for a place to transfer him, they sent him back to the original hospital by ambulance a few days later saying that my dad was being 'combative and confused' Of course he was! He was so severely dehydrated the ER said his kidneys were shutting down and the Dr at ER said that it looks like my dad was disheveled and severely dehydrated, thinking he had come from home. I told them no he has just come from a Brookdale! They couldn't believe it. So much so I pleaded with them to not send him back there and they agreed and admitted him back at the hospital. I watched him get 4L of fluid in the ER at and come back to life again within an hour.. He fought hard & lived another 10 days but never recovered from all that and passed away at the hospital. He missed his first grandchild's first Christmas. I wish someone would've warned us. I was there every day and I couldn't do anything about it except try to transfer him out of there, but it was too late. I wish I would've listened to my gut and took him that very first day put him in my car and went back to the hospital. He didn't fall once while he was in the hospital and he was in the hospital a total of 20+ days.

It's not really the place you _want_ to be. So let me explain why I give it 5 stars. First off, my Dad is near the end of his life and has been living for 3 years in the memory loss ward where the door is locked with a key access. It sounds grim and boring doesn't it? But I spend a lot of time in here, and I like it here! It has toys and fun things on the floor for kids to play with and check out. It has lovely and fun staff. It has volunteers coming by playing violin and piano and guitar. Today they had the football game and then the basketball game on and it was a blast! Sure, there's something a bit surreal about all this sort of stuff -- it's a completely modern invention -- we dump our kids into schools for ten years, and then dump our aged into homes for ten years. But my 5 year old likes coming here, and that's saying a lot! They have free popcorn and coffee and a lobby dog. The food is good (today I had pork cutlet with potatoes and kale; yesterday I had lobster linguini with asparagus). The staff is great. The front desk and lobby are cozy and unpretentious. It's not expensive. With not being expensive, comes not being needlessly fancy -- it's kind of like grandma's house. For a while after a broken hip my Dad stayed at a place down the road, which is super fancy and like a ski lodge, where they had a therapy center. There was no fun in the place -- I think a lot of these places want you to think you aren't where you are. Also parking means a lot, and Sunrise at Orchard is small and parking close to the building is easy. Plus, it's right across the street from Panera so you can go grab food and right next to the library so you can go read a book. And if your parent has Alzheimers then you come back in an hour and they're so happy to see you again, it's always a brand new day!! Now my dad has a couple of days left. He moved back here from the hospital, into hospice care, back to his old room. They know him and love him. They come by the room to help him with things, and are always saying sweet things to him, "we love you Gunnar". And they bring me food and drink and don't care if I set up a mattress on the floor and spend the night. So I want to give them a big thumbs up. It's where my Mom wants to come when it's her turn to have somebody cook for her and just sit around doing crossword puzzles. Oh, and they have a GREAT large garden in the back, especially for the memory loss patients, so they can wander around, have a smoke or whatever. And there are 4 exits, all key-access, so you can come in and out in a few different ways (good 'feng shui'). For the 'younger' patients, they go on all kinds of outings, movies, restaurants. Good luck finding a place for yourself or for your parents!

The level of care that is given to everyone in this very at-risk group of individuals is... for…read morelack of a better word, stellar. Patients range from fully mobile and functioning, just needing a little help to get back into the community, to needing full care for ALL of their needs. The CNAs, RNs, LVNs, PRNs, and all OTHER staff are all doing their absolute best to coordinate and maintain care for these residents. Some residents don't enjoy physical or social interaction AT all, and so the care they receive is absolutely critical... and everyone at this location has a good heart and and a good head on their shoulders, making sure that all patient needs are met, and patients are treated with respect and dignity. My parents moved into Someren Glen 9 years ago. It started off very well. Over time we have seen…read morethe same patterns of poor management occur over and over. Any good employee is always promoted to another Christian Living Community. Someren Glen is the training ground for employees. Never once has a great employee been promoted into Someren Glen from another one of their communities. The elevator breaks about every 3 to 4 months and is then broken for weeks. The cafeteria has been sublet out to a verity of different vendors. The food is not good and the service is poor at best! I would highly recommend choosing any other Senior Living community, besides this one.

After hip replacement surgery, I was an inpatient here for two weeks (March 7-21, 2024)--I did not…read morego anywhere else during this time. They rightly earn at least one star due to excellent PT and OT plus Bella (OT) and Bea (aide), bright lights who made my time there bearable. Wheatridge Manor missed a chance for a higher rating because they almost killed me with a wrong assessment and then a 10-hour delay of needed treatment on March 21. I had contracted strep A sepsis there (and went into kidney failure), necessitating ambulance transport from Wheatridge Manor to Lutheran Hospital ER where they fought for hours to save my life. Source of infection: untreated bug bites (about 3-19 at Wheatridge Manor) which became infected and then developed into a bad case of cellulitis. Additional details: from the time (around 4am) of my first physical symptoms on the morning of March 21 (pain, uncontrollable shaking, vomiting; a few hours later, expressive aphasia--inability to process language), the night nurse Pam and day nurse Jennifer wrongly assessed me as experiencing a panic attack due to "anxiety" about going home. Pam also chewed me out for taking time away from other patients who "really" needed her care (my friend witnessed that unpleasant exchange). I was in and out of awareness for the rest of that day. This terrified me (my symptoms as well as being ignored and dismissed by the nursing staff) as I knew something was very, very wrong. Needing support and a witness, I called my friend (retired nurse). She arrived at the facility around 5am and stayed with me all day. Finally, around 2pm, I asked her to phone my high school BFF in Houston who's a doctor. Dr friend had two words for us: "Ambulance now!" Wheatridge's day nurse, Jennifer, only made the phone call due to pressure from my witness. These two dear friends, along with Lutheran's ER and other medical personnel, saved my life. Accordingly, I do not recommend Wheatridge Manor for anyone. Yes, the PT and OT are great, but the rest of the facility lacks adequate, coordinated care. However, if that place seems the best placement for your loved one, be sure to check on them frequently and to advocate for their needs or they may either almost die like me, or actually die, from inadequate care.
