We've had good experiences here when we've visited. It's a large store and they usually have what you need..and it's easily located. The garden/greenhouse area is large with a good selection. Prices area fair on most items. If you're buying name brand stuff, it's often at retail. But, they will have sales and some items are discounted well if your timing is right. If you need to get something from the loading area, they'll load it or help you load it if needed. The loading area was recently paved, which is a nice touch. read more

Extremely elevated prices and an unfortunately rude staff. In attempt to ask a sales representative if the store matches prices to a neighboring competitor, which had the same item $112.00 cheaper, the young sales girl was extremely rude in response. I explained that the same item was much cheaper elsewhere but would love to buy it here. The girl retorts, "well, uh, go there then." Followed by rolling her eyes and walking off. For any reason, or any future need, I will not be returning here. read more

I could not be more happy with my experience. The Greenfield Farmer's CoOp ran out of the grain two of our horses eat and was not able to get it in until monday. I called around and found they had one bag in stock. They put it away for me to drive 45 minutes to pick it up. The staff was very helpful on the phone and in person, the grain was waiting. I ended up checking out the store and buying other items at their reasonable rates. If they were closer I would shop here all the time. read more

Wow. Sunday morning, and a beauty at that, I was looking forward to finally getting my garden fully mulched so I headed out to Agway. I was the first, and only customer, so I headed over to the cashier who was busy on their cellphone. They looked up as I approached, put away the phone, and waited, without any sort of greeting, for me to state my needs. "Eight bags of the very darkest bark mulch please". "Is that hard wood , or cedar? " they ask. "Which ever is the darkest, I don't care for the light brown or orange." I pay with my credit card, and I can't adequately describe the passive aggressive way this cashier told me to sign the receipt, while leaving the pen way over on the opposite end of the counter. It's so petty and trivial, and so clearly meant to let me know how put out everything about this simple transaction made them. A young man came up to the register and was informed that he would need to help me at the loading dock. Uh oh. A customer needing help, the nerve. He gamely picked up the baton of hostility. I drove around, first making the cardinal error of going to the wrong door, seriously the anger was rolling off this guy in waves. Other door. "Where do I go? " Exasperation, he doesn't know, what do I need? I sort of follow him to what turns out (after he had loaded six of the eight bags into my car) to be the wrong mulch. I tell him I specifically asked for dark mulch, is it the same price? Can't just swap it he says after a heavy, deeply irritated pause of no words. He would not help, (because of course you can swap it, you just couldn't be bothered),made no apology, just stood there. I left, with the wrong mulch, because of the knowledge that this place would go out of its way to make me the offender and their mistake my bitter problem. Wow again. I won't shop there ever, and I'm pretty sure they couldn't care less. read more

I've been going to the Agway store in Brattleboro for decades and have a membership card there, having spent many thousands of dollars over the years for poultry and dog care, and gardening supplies. Admittedly, I shop there for convenience rather than good prices. Generally speaking, the staff who work the cashier stations are very nice, and helpful too. However, the guy who manages the store is rude, verging on being a bully. Over the years I have taken to avoiding him at all costs because he is notably unfriendly, and asking even a single, simple question - like where is something located? - nearly guarantees a irritated response. It is blatantly apparent that he is not suited for customer service. I recently called to check on an order for chicks that I had placed. He was impatient and rude from the first moment and insisted that I did not place the order. That I couldn't have placed the order because they had no order slip. That they didn't accept my kind of credit card, etc. He went through a litany of reasons and regardless of what I said, he would not acknowledge the possibility that I had actually placed the order. No conversation, just throwing statements at me. In fact, I did place the order. I told him that I was looking at my online banking and read out the line item of the charge from the Brattleboro Achille Agway store for the correct date and cost (that seemed to shut him up for a moment and then he whined and huffed about having to find the paperwork). I did place the order over the phone through a nice cashier woman. Obviously someone dropped the ball on their end but he communicated with absolute disregard for me. I spoke with a couple of friends about this experience and they echoed a similar sentiment about how rude this person is and said they just don't go there anymore. And, neither will I. read more

I ordered 20 week old chickens in March and they told me I would get them in two weeks. They came in May 11th. I was told every week that they would come in the next week. When I expressed that I was upset they would say nothing. What happened to customer service? Not even an I am sorry. read more
