Acme is the best tattoo shop in Louisville and so far the best tattoo shop I've been in. All the artists who work there have immense talent. Acme is also the only shop I've been in where the artists will tell you if an idea won't work, like the detail is too small to tattoo, then provide a suggestion to work around the problem. Other shops would gladly tattoo you, take your money, and then let you deal with blurred detail. If you're in Louisville and you're thinking of getting a tattoo just look at their portfolios. You'll see for yourself the quality of work they churn out. Old school sailor tattoos - check. Vibrant color saturated tattoos - check. Portraits - check. The list goes on and on. The shop is an old doctor's office and what used to be examination rooms are now private studios. True story: my mother found out she was pregnant with me when this location was still a doctor's office. I am so happy I chose to get my 2nd tattoo at Acme. When I tried to make an appointment with another tattoo shop and it wasn't working out, a friend recommended Acme. I called the day before and the person I spoke with was super nice and helpful. When I came in, the man at the front desk was so nice and made my friend and I feel comfortable. Jesse was my artist, and he made sure that I was 100% okay with how my stencil looked. He changed the stencil 3 times because he wanted it to look like exactly what I wanted. Once we got started, he checked in with me to make sure I was doing okay. The tattoo came out incredible! It's a simple tattoo that's just lines and he made it look so perfect. I LOVE the new Bonnycastle location!!! I've been living in NYC for 6 years and Acme is as good as any of the places I have visited there or in SoCal. I just got tattooed by Dennis Pase. He's new to Louisville, but not to tattooing. I got a gingerbread man with a bite taken out of it tattooed on the back of my upper arm. Dennis drew a better design than I could have pictured in my head!! He incorporated a lot of vibrant colors and shading. Dennis was clean, efficient, professional and SO MUCH FUN! The time flew by and I barely noticed the pain because I was laughing so much. I plan on seeing Dennis again very soon. Everyone at Acme is amazing. I love the new location, I prefer the private rooms. (Looks like it was maybe a doctor's office or something the way the little tattoo rooms are laid out). read more

I have gotten three tattoos; the most recent two here at acme ink. Scott Bryant did both of them. When I walked in the first time, it was actually to "fix" my first tattoo, done somewhere else, which was only about 6 months old! I looked through the books, and liked Scott's work the best. He was booked for the next few days (which I feel like is a good sign) so I made an appointment. When I came in, not only was Scott funny, nice and professional, but he took more time to take my idea and create the piece of artwork I now have. All while incorporating the old tattoo into it! They've been in business a long time, WAAAAY before all those tattoo shows on TV popped up and every dumbass decided they could do tattoos too. They have earned my utmost respect for the treatment received, the quality of work, and their desire to only do the best work. Be sure to brush up on your tattoo shop etiquette and there will never be an issue. i.e. Personal hygiene, respect, flexibility in the artwork, also having a good idea of what you want helps too, and TIP WELL. These guys bust their ass to put a lasting mark you will have forever and honestly, it's hard to put a dollar sign on the gifted minds and creative output I've witnessed here. Chances are, if you got ink work at one of the many inferior shops around Louisville, you'll wind up here where the true artists are to perform a coverup of that hideous ink you got "because your buddy did it for $30" it's cheaper to do it right than do it over. read more

I was extremely happy with my artist Lester, a new permanent artist that just started there from New Orleans. Let me tell you I've had previous work and can tell you that I can spot a talented artist. If you ever go to Acme, ask for Lester. You won't be disappointed. Esp if you are looking for traditional Japanese artistry. Go in for a estimate and your ideas, walk on Bardstown to get a few beers, and go back and get tatted!! read more

Just got my second tattoo from Acme. Jay did the tattoo on my neck 12 years ago and I was very pleased. I cannot remember the name of the guy who worked at the front desk, but he was very personable, and very kind. John did a tattoo on my leg this past week. I had a rough idea of the arrow I wanted, and John seemed slightly put out when I asked him to redraw the design. I told him I could email him some of the ideas that I liked, and he said no, he would just draw it. Which was fine, except please don't be put out when I ask you to redraw part of that item I'm going to have permanently tattooed on my body forever. Perhaps he was put out at the size of my tattoo, it was only about 6 inches long. Maybe they are used to doing bigger places and try to stay away from smaller pieces?Acme is extremely clean, prices are fairly reasonable. UPDATE: As of 6-9-18, almost 2 months after my tattoo, it is still raised. read more

I've been coming to Acme since 2006, and have traveled across the country to work with Scott Bryant for at least five of those years.  Scott's done absolutely amazing work on two sleeves, my feet, and my shoulders, and I'm constantly getting compliments on my artwork.   More than anything, Scott, and the other artists at Acme, listened to me. The process was truly collaborative - I got the vibe, colors, and images I wanted, while Scott infused his aesthetic sensibilities to create truly unique and beautiful pieces. I've had work done other places - Denver, St. Louis, Santa Fe, Chicago -  and, by far, I'm most impressed with the art Scott produces and engraves on my skin. Slim Brown did my elephant on my forearm and 2 years later I'm still being harassed in public by people who want to just grope my arm and stare at my ink and say "wow who did that oh my god it's so beautiful holy hell let me talk about it for 15 min" lol. Acme ink is a JOKE! If you would like to pick a cliché stencil from the wall, they will be happy to color it in for you, but do not ask for any ideas. Jay Fish is a rude and arrogant TATTOOIST at best.... But a Tattoo ARTIST??? Hell no. There is not a single dot of creativity in that whole shack. When I scheduled a consultation, (and waited an entire week) with the legendary Jay Fish, I was very hopeful and excited. When I got there however, I was so taken back and offended by his lack of interest in a potential client who was going to spend hundreds of dollars. I went to get ideas for a large cover up, and he referred me to the WALL. He even had the nerve to say " If we did it the first time, it wouldn't be messed up." I wanted to turn around and hit him. I can't say much for the rest of the staff. But don't you dare bother Jay Fish, especially if you have an appointment. read more

Scott Bryant is an incredibly talented artist all around. His talent as a tattooer is no different. What makes him stand out from others along with said talent is the way he treats his clients. You don't just grab something off the internet or pick a tattoo from a wall of flash. He is going to talk with you about what you want and come up with something you will love. He is remarkably creative which makes for a beautiful tattoo you will love for a lifetime. He treats the entire experience like it's important to him - it's a picture on your body- it's not going away! He is very professional, he treats clients with respect. One thing I love about Scott is his attention to detail. He has a methodical approach to his work and shop. And he is down to earth, very friendly, smart and interesting which is nice considering the fact he is going to put you in pain! After reading positive reviews and hearing good word of mouth about this shop, I stopped in to get a piece I'd been wanting for a long time. The place is clean, and the people were friendly. However, that's about where the positives end. I was never asked for ID, nor asked to sign any paperwork. The two customers before me didn't fill out anything before being called back either. I was not informed of risks or anything of that nature. It had been years since I'd been tattooed or pierced, and coupled with my nerves, it never even occurred to me that I should have been signing papers and such until well after I got home. As such, there is no record of my ever having been in the shop, which is unfortunate, because... My tattoo came out TERRIBLE. What should have been a simple, clean script tattoo ended up as a blown out mess. It was not what I asked for at all. I specifically asked the artist to work lightly and it was heavy and awful. I chose this shop because of its good reputation, and the artist who tattooed me supposedly has several years of experience. You'd never know it to look at my tattoo. Since I can't afford the grand plus that it would cost for a laser removal, I'm stuck with pain and scarring from having to burn the skin off myself. Yes, you read that right - I would rather burn off my own skin and be stuck with a huge scar than live every day looking at the work I received at Acme. And burn I did. Now, most people would say at this point, "You should have gone back and talked to the artist!" I chose not to, because first of all, if he couldn't or wouldn't do a good job the first time, I would never trust him to try and fix it. I suppose they could have offered my money back, but I'd rather take the loss than have to deal with the person who destroyed my skin and my dream of a a nice tattoo. C'est la vie, though. Lesson learned. I just wish it wasn't such an expensive and painful lesson. read more

This place was AWFUL! I will start off by saying I was a walk in but even so this should have never happened. Went in to get my very first tattoo and spoke with Lester about what I wanted. After I gave him my ideas he told me that my idea was dumb and scoffed at me. When I told him the reasons behind my tattoo he continued to shake his head and basically told me that my ideas and reasons were stupid. This was my tattoo that was going to be on my body for life and it had very special meaning to me! He finally said that he would see what he could draw up and went into the back room. After about 20 mins he came back out and had more negative things to say to which I replied if there was a problem I could go somewhere else. He walked back in the back room to finish the drawing and the guy at the front counter said he would draw up something good so I waited again for another 20 mins. The vibe was so bad that I finally just walked out and went to another tattoo parlor that gave me everything I asked for and more. It was the worst first experience and I honestly think that he just didn't want to do the work. When you go get a tattoo you are paying an artist for something permanent. I had a clear vision of what I wanted and I was treated so terrible and left feeling really down. If you do come here FIND ANOTHER ARTIST . I've heard the other artists are fantastic but I will not be returning! read more

Very polite, professional, and helpful. Luckily I went in when it wasn't so busy so I didn't have to wait long. I got Hebrew lettering on my left arm. Adam was the artist. The first sketch he drew up wasn't big enough. I told him what changes I wanted and he had no problem re-doing the sketch. The second one looked great, exactly what I wanted. When he did the stinsel (sp?) I wanted it a little higher than he was about to place it. I, again, asked him to change something and he was super nice about it. As he was finishing up and wiping away the extra ink I saw some spots that weren't filled in so great. Before I could even say anything he went back and went over all of the filling again and got everything that I saw without me even having to ask. I'm very satisfied with it and will go back if I'm still in Louisville and want another tattoo. read more
