I went here to get my belly pierced, it was quick and easy. I was a walk in, so no appointment set ahead of time, and I was in and out within 10-15 minutes. The belly piercing itself looks amazing, I get quite a few compliments on how centered the placement is. Before I got the piercing, my nerves were sort of high, so when he originally marked where he'd pierce, it was too far to the left, but I was too nervous to correct it. Thankfully, the piercer corrected himself after I stood in the mirror and it turned great, as well as making some jokes to ease the nerves. However, I will say that the jewelry isn't the best quality. After about a month with the piercing, the gem inside the top part of the jewelry fell out? Overall, I had a good experience and would go back again. The workers are cool, and pretty respectful. Maybe I'd go in with my own jewelry or bite the bullet and buy more expensive jewelry from them. read more

I've been wanting to get a double cartilage piercing for a while now and I finally decided to do it. I did some research on local places and decided on Artfully Insane. They are walk in only for piercings which is great because the other place I had considered was booked for two weeks and I was ready to get it that day. Parking - make sure to park behind their building and not the neighboring restaurant. Off street parking available! Experience - I waited for about 30 minutes before it was my time to sit in the chair with Doc. Doc talked me through the process and how to keep my new piercing clean. He put two purple sharpie dots on my ear and then confirmed with me the placement. He was very helpful with his reminders to keep breathing through the process. Price - $40 per piecing (so I paid $80) and I bought the cleaning product that they have there since that's what Doc recommended. Overall $86 bucks and tip was not required. I wish they would have had more options that just the standard silver hoop with a ball (they do also have studs) but I understand I have to let it heal and then I can change it. There isn't a great variety of jewelry to pick from here. read more

Had one of the worst experiences here. I got a nose and cartilage piercing from "Doc" who has apparently been piercing for over 20 years. He was extremely condescending and rude already making the appointment an unpleasant experience and making me very uncomfortable. To make matters worse out of all the piercings I've gotten these two are the only ones to not heal correctly and cause me so much pain. I have multiple other cartilage piercings as well as my tragus, conch and rook that have all healed perfectly fine from other places. My nostril piercing from Doc never healed right and I eventually had to take it out. When getting it re-pierced at another place, I was told that is was not pierced correctly at all and no wonder it didn't heal!!! Extremely upset with how I was treated here by Doc and how incorrect my piercing was done. read more

Went here with my family today and our piercer was beyond rude and unprofessional. He pierced my siblings nose and did not change his gloves when he was replacing the jewelry in my mothers mouth. The artists here are very very sweet, cool, and welcoming. They welcome walk-ins and are willing to talk you through the process before comitting. It was very obvious that this was my first tattoo and I was very nervous; one gentleman was willing to sit with me and talk about random things to calm me down. My tattoo artist, Travis, I believe, was very calm and confident... which made me calm. This man knew what he was doing. While his office wasnt the most tidy, his work area and tools were well taken care of and clean. When we he was done he went over with me a few times, without acting like it was tedious, how to take care of my new tattoo. It was a great experience and I wouldn't recommend anywhere else. The ONLY reason I'm giving four stars is because I don't think they were listening when i said i wanted my tattoo dark brown to the point if almost being black; they gave me black. Landed here based on tons of other five star reviews for piercing my child's ears. She has been wanting them pierced for nearly two years but there was no way I was going to have it done by an amateur with shoddy equipment such as what you would get at "Claire's". We read tons about this guy "Doc" here at Artfully Insane who's been piercing for the better part of 40 years. I can't say enough good about him and his expertise of piercing, especially small children. Obviously, parents have to consent but so does the child. My daughter ended up getting one ear done and after a short cry, decided she had enough for the day and wanted to leave. Upon leaving, Doc told us, "I give her a week, she will want to come back and have the other one done". How right he was! We went back for the other one today! She cried a little more afterwards but was overjoyed with it by the time we made it to the car. Again, I can't say enough good things about the place and the staff. They're all highly professional from my observations on two trips. The facility is also well kept and clean, what more could you ask for! read more

My boyfriend and I came in today to get his ears pierced. We did not have an appointment due to their walk-in only policy for piercings. We got there about 10 minutes after they opened and the doors were still locked. When they did finally open, we were told the only piercer was still not in the shop. After waiting an additional 20 minutes we were told that the piercer was about 20-25 minutes away. We waited for longer than that, and finally after about a total hour of waiting we decided to go elsewhere. This is not the first time this has happened here in my experience. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. Jewelry selection isn't very good either. read more

Doc did a guiche that rejected in 2 weeks. I have since had another piercer tell me that it was dine incorrectly, hands down since rejection doesn't happen that fast. Doc's solution? He said he would give me half off if I wanted to have him do it again (after seeing it and seeing that my body had literally pushed it out to within 1/4" of the edge of my skin). I got my nipples pierced by Doc on Feb 15th, the atmosphere in the shop was fine, they didn't seem overly busy and I was attended to quickly. Doc was kind, informed me about aftercare, and calmed me down during my piercing, reminding me to breathe, etc. I was very happy with my piercings, I was excited to check them out as soon as I was out of the chair, but I had noticed that one nipple seemed a bit deeper than the other, I chalked it up to swelling. Fast forward 2 weeks later I am back to get a longer bar in the deeper pierced nipple, Doc had inserted a bar too short and the swelling wouldn't go down and it was painful and irritated. The other piercer at the shop happily changed the bar for me and informed me to come in if I needed anything else. It has only been 3 days since I've changed my bar for a longer one and sadly, I should have honestly just taken it out that day. My nipple was pierced too deep and I'm very unhappy with it. Overall my experience was good with Artfully Insane, and I am happy, but only with one piercing. The price for both was $60, which is affordable and a good price but sadly I'm ending up with only 1 piercing when I originally had 2. The shop seems knowledgeable and I would recommend it, but please voice your concerns before you get pierced, check your piercer's placement, and make sure you're happy with what you get done before leaving the shop. read more

Spur of the moment piercing after Sunday brunch. I'd been thinking about getting my tragus done for several years but for some reason today was the day. The guy (not Doc) who pierced me was very informative and friendly. He did a good job with the needle too. It barely hurt at all. Yeah so this is awkward bc I never leave poor reviews but here's what I have to say - My two friends and I walked in and the receptionist was incredibly rude & snappy with us, because as SOON as we walked in she asked us what we wanted, and we explained we hadn't made up our minds just yet and just got there. We were in literally no rush at all. So she said "Well I'm gonna need you to figure out what you're doing and THEN come to me", but we literally didn't initiate conversation, she did. Also - My tattoo is beautiful. My artist was very professional and kind, and he did a beautiful job, he didn't give me his name or really talk to me but he has long hair - to explain which he is. My friend however, spoke with Nat (a tattoo artist there) about several different options for tattoos and Nat kept saying they were too small and detailed but swore she specialized in line work...... so my friend settled for Roman numerals and Nat made them as large as she was comfortable with but the linework wasn't exactly anything significant....it was average for sure. The lines are kind of foggy and uneven. I just wouldn't recommend this place bc of the shitty service & chance of shitty work. I just wouldn't go there again. It really threw us off and it was so sketchy. read more

i got my belly button pierced here and they pierced me with a hoop instead of a curved barbell (which i didn't know was bad at the time but it basically moves so much it will take forever to heal or just will never heal). and when i went to a different piercer to get it changed to a barbell she suggested i take it out because it was pierced unevenly, was too shallow, and was probably going to reject. she said if a piercer tells you a hoop is better it's usually because they're cheaper and they're easy to hide uneven piercings with. so don't trust anyone who suggests one (for strictly a belly button). read more

I am always slightly intimidated when I walk into a tattoo shop because the "hardest" thing I've got is a nose ring. When I walked into Artfully Insane they were so friendly. The piercer, Doc, was SO friendly and funny. Making another post to show how great this place really is, I had some unexpected swelling with one of my piercings done here and came back (walk in) very nervous that it was infected/needed to be taken out. However, good ol' Doc sat me up on his Barber chair and calmed me down saying not to worry and explained what was actually happening. He replaced my barbell with a longer and larger size, without so much as a wink of pain. To top it off, he did this all free of charge, where most shops would make you pay for the new piercing and have you put it in yourself! Based on another review from a parent I just called ahead to see about getting my daughter's ear pierced. The lady on the phone asked how old she was and then said that they have to be able to talk and to ask to have their ears pierced. My daughter is 2 and a half and has been asking for it for 3 months. When I told her she would be able to ask for her ears pierced she said that they wouldn't pierce her ears because of her age. If that's the case, that should be stated outright then. A little frustrated with how short the employee was with me. I can't agree with Cliff's review that this is a great place for younger kids. read more

I got my conch pierced here 6 months ago. It was horrible. The place was gross and very clearly unclean and smelled horrible. The piercer, doc, was incredibly rude. He even yelled at my sister after she accidentally touched my piercing site, saying now he had to clean it again before piercing it (a very simple task). I did not get a choice of jewelry and they put in a chunky hoop. It constantly hurt and didn't heal properly because a stud was not put in. PLEASE, save your time and money and do not go here. I went to tatu at st. Matthews mall today and got a stud put in and the lady was so nice and everything was very professional and it didn't hurt at all. read more
