The Acorn Hill Lodge was a quaint gem hidden in a residential area of Lynchburg. The owner and host, Wanda, was so incredibly friendly and welcoming it was hard to not feel as if we were family. Her staff was so friendly and greeted you daily with warm, southern hospitality. The Bistro was like stepping into a country diner every morning. Our days began on the right foot when we had breakfast at The Bistro. If you are looking for a unique stay while in the Lynchburg area, look no further. Thank you to Wanda and her staff - you've outdone yourselves!

This food is incredible! Homemade bread. Homemade ketchup. Homemade everything. Truly amazing! We didn't get a chance to try the rotisserie chicken, but we heard it's the way to go. The staff is great. The room (honeymoon suite) is the perfect getaway for couples. Highly, highly recommend!

For a bed & breakfast, we could not have asked for more. The lady can cook! What else could one expect from a delightful southern belle. Not to give too much away ... but read the chapter 16 of the Book of Acts of the Apostles to get a feel for the divine hospitality we experienced from our gracious hostess. She gave us the history of the area which allowed us to treasure our visits to the museums in town. It has made a valiant attempt to rebrand itself as LYH. That trip back down memory lane of the struggles endured by the growing pains of our people, our country, our self-worth made us appreciate from whence we have come. The House of Lydia gave us the privacy we needed. I am glad that the Good Lord knows what to provide to keep the fire in our marriage roaring. (And the neighborhood has other gems to see if you take a walk around.) We stayed in the 1 Corinthians room, with my significant other loving the air jet bath. And while I'm not very tall, I could readily see someone who typically struggles with standard-height shower heads appreciating (if not loving) the rain shower. Owner and host Bonnie was fantastic. She went out of her way to accommodate our breakfast and lodging needs and wants. (Please be sure to tell her not just of any food allergies but also of any strong food preferences so that you can thoroughly enjoy breakfast.) She makes it a point to use organic ingredients, and there's plenty to eat. (I had so much to eat during the first breakfast that I skipped my lunch and almost could have skipped dinner.) It's obvious that Bonnie cares a lot about her guests. There's so much more that I could write, but I hope that this gives you a good idea. Get your reservation in; you won't be disappointed.

Owners Mike and Kathy were welcoming as could be, and made sure our stay was enjoyable as could be. They even went to the lengths of leaving helpful info and the following day's breakfast menu on our bed each evening. The rooms are not only clean and welcoming, but remain in period decor, thankfully with working AC and functional bathrooms :) Breakfast was beyond fabulous- Kathy prepared juices, coffee, yogurt, fruit creations, and a scrumptious French toast croissant with warm green apple slices. To say this place was "quaint and nice" would be doing The Carriage House a great disservice; rather, it is a classy and serene locale, with plenty to do within a 20-minute drive! I would without a doubt recommend this place to anyone looking for a romantic getaway with plenty to do aside from enjoying the country life. To do locally: wineries, rafting, tubing, outdoor year-round skiing, museums, visit Jefferson's other home, bike, hike, dine out, etc. Came with a package deal from LivingSocial.com - and am thrilled I picked this "escape package" - worth every penny.

We were also told the owner/event manager would be on hand for help the day of. She seemed to forget who I was after meeting with me multiple times, but no biggie. I'm sure she meets lots of people. What was really not okay was that when we showed up to set up our event, the area was NOT cleaned and there was nobody to be found. There was dust and dirt everywhere that took an hour to clean before even being able to set up, a gross dead bug graveyard in the sitting area floor, it smelled musty, and overall was just not up to the standard they advertised. The owner nor any staff showed up at any point. We were not greeted, we were not helped, and it was just kind of a "okay good luck" situation. Also, the "AC" was on 75 on a hot May day. After paying the second half of the $550 fee, I didn't hear from the event manager other than a text asking what time I'd be in. Afterwards, nobody checked on us or the space. Never even heard from them to get a "thank you for renting our space" or "I'm sorry I wasn't available today"... To pay $550, you'd expect to get what you pay for. As a local, I will NOT be renting there for any other party I host nor trying out their B&B if the service is anything like this experience has been. Next time, we'll pay $550 for a nicer place on 151.
