We paid more than $500 to rent their event area. It was advertised as a nice, renovated area WITH AC and we were told it would be cleaned before our event. We were also told the owner/event manager would be on hand for help the day of. She seemed to forget who I was after meeting with me multiple times, but no biggie. I'm sure she meets lots of people. What was really not okay was that when we showed up to set up our event, the area was NOT cleaned and there was nobody to be found. There was dust and dirt everywhere that took an hour to clean before even being able to set up, a gross dead bug graveyard in the sitting area floor, it smelled musty, and overall was just not up to the standard they advertised. The owner nor any staff showed up at any point. We were not greeted, we were not helped, and it was just kind of a "okay good luck" situation. Also, the "AC" was on 75 on a hot May day. After paying the second half of the $550 fee, I didn't hear from the event manager other than a text asking what time I'd be in. Afterwards, nobody checked on us or the space. Never even heard from them to get a "thank you for renting our space" or "I'm sorry I wasn't available today"... To pay $550, you'd expect to get what you pay for. As a local, I will NOT be renting there for any other party I host nor trying out their B&B if the service is anything like this experience has been. Next time, we'll pay $550 for a nicer place on 151. read more

We just discovered The Orchard House Bed & Breakfast in Lovingston, Virginia--only about 3 1/2 hours from Raleigh, NC--and it's the perfect getaway. The Orchard House Bed and Breakfast was everything I hoped for and more! To start, Lisa and her family were wonderful hosts. You can tell they truly care about this place and your experience. They provide the perfect amount of engagement and private time. In the morning, Lisa made us a delicious breakfast, while also taking the time to give us recommendations around town and tell us the history of the BnB. We loved having our morning coffee/breakfast on the porch, with the beautiful and quiet surroundings (and friendly outdoor cat!). Each of the rooms are unique and tastefully decorated, with cozy mattresses. We loved being close to numerous wineries and antique stores, while also having a peaceful place to return to. The town of Lovingston itself had some cute shops and a great winery (Lovingston Winery). I cannot wait to come back and visit. Especially since Lisa and her family are in the process of adding even more - including a tasting room in the barn. We stayed at the Orchard House Memorial Day weekend, and WOW! First I had originally booked the stay in 2020, but due to COVID, it just didn't happen. Thankfully I was able to get the deposit paid as a gift card to use at a later date. All communication with Deb and Mike was clear, prompt and helpful. We finally made it, and had the most magical weekend, with the best recommendations for local hiking, wine tasting, and the best breakfasts we've ever had with locally sourced coffee and food. Deb and Mike welcomed us like their own family, and I am looking forward to planning another trip to this Virginia oasis! read more

Okay, I'm at the first to admit that I've never done a review on a bed and breakfast. I'm making a exception this time to venture away from my typical motif of restaurant reviews, only because I feel I need to share my experience over the last several days at Orchard House Bed and Breakfast. My expectations were pretty simple, Dori and I needed some peaceful getaway time to decompress due to some significant family and work issues. We found peace and so much more. Mike and Deb (owners) do a fantastic job of making you feel you are visiting old friends, as they seamlessly infuse themselves in your stay. They act as great hosts, vacation planners and friends. I am actually looking forward to going back to see them as much as vacationing the area. We did not know it at the time we booked, but the house is strategically placed for ease of access (avg 30 min drives) for fantastic scenery (waterfalls and hiking), vineyards, breweries, dining, historical sites and golf. One of the best parts of the going out and venturing was coming back to freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and brownies awaiting, "welcoming us home". I probably ate a little more than my fair share. Another really nice feature of the house was the gas fire pit. It was easy and safe to use and ended up being a significant part of our stay. The house has a very "homey" feel, the bed was very comfortable and front porch was fantastic for morning coffee. The house and estate is great for wedding parties and Bachelor and Bachelorette parties. There was a couple staying and using the grounds as a wedding venue. They were married by the pond at the base of the orchard. We had a great time engaging them and becoming a part of their small wedding. It was a fantastic and fun experience. The price point for service was very generous for the high level of service received. The Breakfasts... okay now Im back in my comfort zone. If you have read my previous reviews on breakfasts places, you know how hard I can be as breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I don't eat it very often so when I do I expect to be good. Mike and Deb turn breakfast into a separate experience from the house. It's like going to a wonderful little mom-and-pop place that serves exquisite food. And yes, the coffee was rich and appropriately strong. As you know I judge coffee at places very hard as this is the one area they all tend to fail on. For me, I always remembered place by how good the coffee was. We had eggs Benedict one morning, French toast another morning, both intertwined with other side dishes that were fantastic... Including some extremely unique breakfast biscuits...that I will not spoil for you as you need to go to experience them. There's more than enough food for each person, as I ended up finishing most of Dori's meals and my sister-in-law's who was visiting with us. In summary, I highly recommend a visit to the orchard house bed-and-breakfast. It's a great place to visit to spend a couple days on site, just relaxing and enjoying the food, pool, fire pit and beautiful scenery which includes an grape orchard that Mike maintains. Or you can combine it with venturing out to fantastic wineries, sites and the beautiful scenery such as the Crabtree falls. Note about the Crabtree falls, they are outstanding and a must see if you like hiking and experiencing nature. However, be prepared for a moderate to heavy hike, bring proper hiking shoes and plan on spending most the day there. ...keep small children and dogs on a leash.... read more

If you're looking for a slice of heaven surrounded by 33 Virginia wineries, then you have found the right place. The Orchard House Bed & Breakfast far exceeded even our wildest expectations. We felt at home the second we walked up the stairs onto the porch and through the front door. Mike greeted us with a warm smile, some history of the property and great recommendations of the surrounding area. We met Deb (and her mom!) later in the evening and they were both incredible women to talk with. Normally when my husband and I go away, we think of a vacation as being by ourselves and not wanting to spend much time around others. Our experience at The Orchard House was much different - we found ourselves looking to run into the owners who just made the experience more than we could have ever imagined. Deb and Mike have thought of every detail and you can see their passion throughout the property. Our first night, my husband and I sat around the fire pit enjoying the sounds of nature as we watched the stars. We enjoyed a quick swim in their beautiful, in-ground pool and relaxed on the hammocks under the trees. On Saturday, Mike took us on a wine tour with another wonderful couple staying at the B&B. We stopped at six wineries, all with breathtaking views. We were able to taste at our own pace and had time to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. We were given VIP cards upon arrival that offered discounts at all the stops (either a BOGO tasting or a certain percentage off a bottle). The wine tour was definitely a highlight of our trip! On our anniversary, we experienced a beautiful private porch breakfast (which we highly recommend including in your stay!!) complete with mimosas and Mike's delicious eggs Benedict. After our meal, we enjoyed a couples massage with Melanie and Lisa from The Corner Spa. Mike's breakfast alone stole the show and we especially enjoyed talking and laughing with Deb who definitely has an eye for decorating and a gift for hosting! Some additional accommodations that just added to the trip included: an array of board games, checkers, and giant Yahtzee available, a gazebo overlooking the vineyard, fresh baked goods left out almost every evening (amazing chocolate chips cookies and gooey brownies!), wine glasses and a wine opener in our room, bathrobes hanging in the closet, THE MOST COMFORTABLE BED WE'VE EVER SLEPT IN, delicious fresh brewed local coffee, and even toiletries like Q-tips, shampoo and a hair dryer. Also, we stayed in the Empire Room which we would recommend over and over again for its large size, mini fridge, microwave, Keurig, jacuzzi tub, and giant king sized bed. We seriously had the hardest time leaving but know we will definitely be back soon!! read more

We spent our family reunion at Orchard House, occupying all 9 rooms on the campus. Mike and Deb were the consummate hosts and were amazing in pointing us to various local places to enjoy. Beware: There are new owners at Orchard House and I wasn't even notified until the day of arrival! If you have a wedding planned, special occasion or a repeat guest, I would recommend you stay somewhere else or you will be highly disappointed. I would give Orchard House a 0 star if I could. First of all, prior of my arrival, I had left several messages a month before arrival so I could get some information on the spa package I had purchased but no one returned my phone call. I got a phone call a day prior just to find out that there are new owners. I booked the Bed and Breakfast because of the reviews and chef breakfast. The first morning, I had asked if we could have our breakfast at 8:00 am. The owner accommodated but you could tell that she was not happy having to get up early to make us breakfast. When I asked if we could have breakfast again at 8:00, she said no and proceeded to tell me that she accommodated the day before but that is not common and that her son was playing in a football game so it was going to be a long night for her. The website clearly says breakfast is served between 8:30-9:30 but we weren't offered any alternatives or even a to-go box. So FYI apparently breakfast is at 9:30 am. 2. My room was given 2 towels for 2 people for 4 days and one toilet paper roll. I texted her for extra towels. Crickets! I never heard from her so I had to find a towel to use. Because there wasn't any breakfast, decided to heat up a pie in the guest microwave near the kitchen. When I opened up the microwave door, there was food that was in there for awhile with about 13 gnats. It was very disgusting. Also, she does not live on the property so it is like staying at a hotel without a manager or staying in an Airbnb. You will not get the hospitality and that personal touch that you may be looking for in a Bed and Breakfast. That is why I booked here but I won't be staying here again. read more

We just spent our 35th wedding anniversary at this fabulous place! The hosts are incredible, they felt like old friends. The bed was super comfortable , the room was spacious and clean. With it's beautifully maintained grounds, the country-elegant decor theme, and incredibly welcoming innkeepers, Deb and Mike, we felt both special, pampered AND at the same time, relaxed and at home. The entire house is carefully and well-appointed; you can see the level of consideration put into each piece of art and every furniture placement. It's well thought out and lovely without being fussy or contrived. The homemade, multi-course, generously portioned breakfasts, served in the charming dining room, were warm and delicious and filling. We very much enjoyed and appreciated the extra attention to details that was clearly part of the meal preparation and service. Although this was a romantic "just us" weekend, one main highlight was the innkeeper Mike taking us on an escorted wine tour of nearby vineyards in the big, red Orchard House van. It was great to be able to enjoy several wine tastings without worrying about who would drive home. This was an added feature of our stay that we really, really appreciated. This is a perfect place for couples and we look forward to making it an annual December trip. The Christmas decorations both inside and outside the house were spectacular! I have to admit, though, thinking it would also be fun to come back in the spring with just the gal pals for a weekend of wine tasting and hiking just for the girls! read more

I surprised my husband with a Valentine's Day weekend getaway and we stayed at the Orchard House. The owners are very welcoming, comfortable stay and tasty breakfast in the morning. We did the wine tour so we wouldn't have to drive after going to the tastings. Overall we really enjoyed it. In my opinion, the price point is a bit high for the tour ($100/per person + the nights you stay). Each room has it's own bathroom, and upstairs there is a communal fridge to keep your wine cold. They had wifi, and all the standard amenities of a local hotel, but with far more charm. read more

I'm dying to find a reason to escape to the mountains just to go back here again! There are new owners, Deb & Mike, and they are fantastic. My husband and I stayed here for Lockn Music Festival and had the best time. We were awoken to the smells of delicious heaven and coffee!! The breakfast was some of the best I've tasted and filled our bellies the entire day. Lying in a hammock reading a book overlooking the beautiful landscape was absolute heaven. The accommodations were perfect and so comfortable we did not want to leave. Mike and Deb were wonderful hosts at The Orchard Bed & Breakfast. We were here in the very beginning of Spring so it was cooler, therefore, we did not use the pool; that will be for another time! The house itself is spacious, welcoming and full of character! Each room is more than accommodating. My husband and I were staying for our wedding anniversary, but also wanted to meet up with our daughter for her birthday, who lives in a town nearby. We were able to celebrate us and her as there is plenty to do in the surrounding area. We chose to hike, experience some of the many wineries, breweries, distilleries, and just enjoy the beautiful property. We chose to have a DD and have Mike give us a customized wine tour. We were there for two nights and the breakfasts served were simply delicious, beautiful and a great way to start the day. Mike and Deb were amazing and had great recommendations to enhance our stay. We went to 2 wineries, devils backbone brewery (all recommended by deb and mike) and we also went to Monticello for a day and the Ivy Inn for dinner. You can tell Deb and Mike moved here a year ago and jumped right into being a part of the community. You get a special Nelson County VIP card during your stay to get discounts at local vineyards and restaurants. Breakfast first morning was fruit, a baked item, and eggs Benedict. My husband and I just returned home after spending an incredible weekend at The Orchard House B&B. From the moment I spoke with Deb on the phone to make our reservation, I could tell this was going to be a wonderful experience. It is evident that Mike and Deb have put their whole hearts into doing what they love. The main house is beautifully decorated and the surrounding property beckons you to sit awhile and relax. Our room had a fireplace, mini fridge, microwave and jetted tub. The king bed was honestly one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in! And the breakfast...oh my goodness!! The inn itself is beautiful and the owners are the nicest, most accommodating people you will ever meet. My sister booked Orchard House for my bachlorette weekend and we had the most perfect experience! We all loved the property and really enjoyed hanging by the pool and sitting around the fire pit. Deb and Mike are so nice and accommodating. The breakfast both days were amazing! We were all raving about the food! The rooms were perfect and the beds were extremely comfortable. It was the perfect set up for a big group of girls because we all had a bathroom in our own rooms so showering and getting ready to go out was simple! We did our vineyard and brewery tour through them and Mike took us all over. The plan was originally to go to a lot of vineyards and when I mentioned I liked breweries, Mike changed the plan so that we could include more of them. We had so much fun on the tour and did not feel rushed to move onto the next place at all. There are so many great things to do the in the area and before we even left to go home, my cousin, my sister and I were already planning to come back with our families to check out the hikes and some distilleries. My husband and I planned an elopement wedding in just under 6 weeks. As you can imagine, we were scrambling to get vendors booked on short notice and pull everything together in time for our special day. Deb and Mike were so kind and accommodating and an absolute breeze to work with. We live about two hours away so we had to do everything via phone and email, but this was not a problem. Deb was very responsive and thorough. We were actually willing to book the whole property site unseen, but we did manage to go down for a visit prior to our event. We fell immediately in love. The property looks like a Christmas card. It is so quaint and charming and well kept. We had the whole place to ourselves for the weekend and our guests absolutely loved it. Mike is an excellent cook (we highly recommend the eggs benedict.) We enjoyed Mike and Deb so much we invited them to our reception and they came down for dinner and hung out with the guests! My in-laws have already declared a yearly family trip, and my husband and I will definitely be back for our anniversary. Deb and Mike are a class act.
