He is an excellent communicator, and his workers were not only courteous but very skilled at their respective jobs. He was able to finish my basement in a timely manner with high-quality materials. I could not be happier with the work Brown's Custom Contracting did within my home. Detailed Summary of My Experience: I contacted Jim initially just to get an estimate for finishing my basement, which was in a state that needed major work because the walls were made of cinderblock and the floors were complete concrete; it was a space that was probably best used for storage and I would not call it "comfortably livable." Jim arrived quickly for an estimate and helped me explore the possibilities of the space, even going so far as to note what would be difficult or expensive to pull off. Within days he provided an estimate for the job, which I found out during the process was a major ordeal involving many phases and individuals, so I'm impressed he was able to produce a price so quickly (and in the end it was an accurate price). I signed Jim up for the job because of his straightforward and pleasant attitude. In the weeks and months that followed (this was a major job, I want to note), Jim gave me frequent updates about what workers I could expect to come by and when/how-long they would be there. Every person who came onto the property was skilled and good about communicating what they would be working on, especially when they had questions about the possibilities of the space. Jim also handled all of the work involving the permits and he worked with the county to ensure everything was up to code. He also alerted me any time there was a change in plans or if there was a possibility of delay. Given how involved this basement-finish job was, there were plenty of opportunities for major hurdles, but the project was still completed in a timely manner, and it was always clear to me what was going on, what would happen next, etc. The final product is everything I could've wanted. Jim made efficient use of the space to make as much of it "comfortably livable" as possible. Even the water heater and HVAC unit were relocated with no diminishment in functionality just for the sake of making the basement as good as it could possibly be. I'm very pleased with the additional space my family has been given, and there isn't a single rough edge in the room. Jim's guys are the best and I highly recommend his service to anyone looking to improve their homes. I have included pictures of the job before and after just so you can see the quality of work.

We can't say enough good things about Erich and the people that work with him. They are true professionals, experts at what they do, are always kind (even when I asked stupid questions!) and they did anything and everything to make us happy with their work. We have had Artec remodel a bathroom, build a front porch, extend a shed and turn a carport into a garage. Each job was done with meticulous care...Erich is very particular about all of our projects and took the time to build it to his specifications which were perfect. People warned me that remodeling could be a nightmare, but I can honestly say that it has been an excellent experience and I would never hesitate to have Artec, Erich and his team work in and on our home again!

Erich, the owner, and employees Rick and Chris are very competent and meticulous. I thought I was picky about the way I want things done, but they, especially Rick, put me to shame. Rick did the installation of most of the items in the bathroom (tub, sink, cabinets, tile) and was assisted by Erich with many of them. Chris did the priming and painting in the bathroom and the hallway and did an excellent job of "cutting in" with a brush without having to use painter's tape. They were constantly seeking my input and asking me to check their work to make sure everything was exactly the way I wanted it. They also offered some really good suggestions on certain things that I probably never would have thought of as the work progressed. One of the things they did that most other home improvement contractors don't do and that was to haul away all of the stuff in the bathroom that was getting replaced. Normally when someone in my neighborhood has a bathroom remodeled, I see the old tub, sink, toilet, cabinets(s), etc. at the curb for trash pickup. I thought I was going to have to do this because the day they did the demolition was 4 days before trash pickup. The city I live in doesn't allow any trash at the curb for pickup until after 5PM the day before. I figured they'd put the old tub, toilet, sink, etc. on the front porch and then I'd have to get it to the curb the day before the next trash pickup. But, Artec hauled away everything from the demolition of the bathroom, and hallway (old wallpaper and floor and door molding). Both the bathroom and hallway turned out better than I had hoped for. I hope to use them sometime in the next year to have a ground deck installed over a concrete patio. I would be remiss if I did not mention the plumbing and electrical sub-contractors Artec used for the job, and that is Diamond Plumbing, owned by Mike Dornisch, and Professional Electric, owned by Rob Cooper. I have used these two companies exclusively for my plumbing and electrical needs for many years now, before I even knew about Artec, and have always been satisfied with their work. One of the reasons I went with Artec is because Mr. Dornisch recommended them, and he has never steered me wrong with a recommendation for a contractor. Another reason is because I knew that Diamond Plumbing and Professional Electric would be doing the plumbing and electrical work on the bathroom remodel. Mike Craddock, Bowie, MD
