Thought I had a garage roof leak, so called out Chesapeake Roofing for a free inspection and cost appraisal. Victor came out and conducted a garage attic inspection using a tall ladder ceiling hatch. He didn't enter the lighted attic but just did a visual inspection using a flashlight. After his inspection, Victor claimed one side of my roof needed an asphalt roofing patch. What he didn't tell me was that, five to six feet from his attic ladder inspection, was an extremely obvious water pipe leak that had created black fungus on nearby wood. So obvious you could easily view without a flashlight. So what we have here is deceiving a possible customer by telling him he has a roofing leak when, in reality, a plumber was needed to correct the interior water pipe leak. Thus, my one-star rating, which actually should be lower. read more

Their sales rep, Tony, went above and beyond for us when it came to tweaking quotes to help stay within our target budget and he maintained communication to help facilitate coordination and completion of the various stages all the way through to the end. One of our biggest factors in picking Chesapeake for the job is that they are not a company who sells you something and then just subs out the work to a random contractor - they oversee all of their crews who do the work to ensure things are taken care of to the highest standard. Naturally, there were a few small hiccups along the way (which is expected on a project our size with so many moving pieces) but all issues were handled quickly and professionally to ensure that we were happy in the end. To me, that is the true mark of a great company because nothing ever runs completely smoothly in construction! We had some wind damage to our roof. Chesapeake replaced the entire front of the roof and cap within the insurance allowance. They left the yard so clean that you wouldn't have even known they had been there. We've used them for the original roof several years ago and new siding a couple years ago. The prices were very reasonable. I hope we don't need to call them any time soon, but I would if I needed similar services. I know they're supposed to be but they were great before the sale. The sales team kept in touch, came out to walk us through the process. They even stopped by to pick up a check. And it didn't feel pushy or sleazy. Poor customer service. Contacted this company on Saturday to fix a one side of a double panel window. Mark Phillps contacted me and was the worst rep I have ever dealt with. He did not come to my home to assess the window, he only, texted and asked for pictures and measurements.....he then told me the cost would be 2000 dollars to fix ONE side of a double panel window. Hired Chesapeake Roofing to inspect current gutters and gutter guards for a leaking issue. They found the original gutters to be small and gutter guards not preventing debris from lodging in gutters. Chesapeake Roofing provided a reasonable estimate for the replacement of both the gutters and gutter guards. During installation, they found that the roofing company we had previously used (not Chesapeake Roofing) did not replace the shingles completely down to the edge of the roof so they did that work for us as well. They then came back and replaced the original gable vents that had started to deteriorate. Chesapeake Roofing is an honest, fair, and reliable company to work with. Wish we were closer. Mark is a honest and trustworthy man in this business. I was swamped at work and at home but Mark kept calling until he reached me. After finding out that I was outside of his coverage area for repair, he gave me instructions on what I would need to do and the estimate that I would need to ask for and he's not even doing the work for me! Hired Chesapeake to replace all of my siding with Hardieboard siding and to replace all windows and doors with Provia products. While Chesapeake wasn't the cheapest bid I got for the work, they had the most complete proposal and while walking the job prebid they asked all the right questions which left me with a feeling on confidence in how competent they would be. I have a background in architecture and work for a very large regional GC so I had clear expectations and they were met. Before work began, Mark Phillips met me at my house and we walked the house and talked thru the project. Lines of communication were always open and he was always receptive to the little tweaks and changes I made along the way. With the material issues we are having these days some adjustments and changes had to occur due to availability issues and the owner Kurt Burkhart was always upfront and clear when those problems arose and always had options queued up when presenting problems. Once work began, his crews were always professional, kept a clean jobsite, and worked safely while getting things done quickly. We contracted with Chesapeake for our roof, five replacement windows, siding and gutters. Chesapeake was recommended to us by a colleague who indicated they were very happy with their workmanship. Phase 1 was the roof. The crew included one woman and three guys and the female member of the crew participated in all facets of the tear out and build. They took around four hours to remove the old roof (and install two new sheets of plywood over an area that had rotted). They then took about six hours to completely install the new roof (Certainteed architectural). All in one day. Absolutely amazing to watch such a talented team. Oh, and did I mention that they work in 94 degree heat!! A few weeks later a separate crew came to install the windows. Again, top class workmanship with minimal mess and first-class finish. Phase three of the job included the tear out of our old siding (we had a combination of vinyl, aluminum and wood). The crew of six incredibly skilled Koreans worked in sections and took about five days to complete a complicated job. Their workmanship was truly superb and their attention to detail was just a pleasure to watch. The foreman kept a close eye on all the work and on a few occasions insisted that a particular detail be redone. The finish detail is amazing. We essentially have a new house that is also wrapped tight with insulation. Perhaps the most complicated part of the job was wrapping our large stucco chimney in siding. This required them installing furring strips on the outside of the chimney, then wrapping the chimney in insulation (not sure why but I'm not complaining) and then covering the chimney in siding (we used Certainteed T5 straight edge siding in herringbone color). Turned out beautifully. Mark, our consultant, work with use every step of the way and was willing to requote our job several times to accommodate new features we requested. He made helpful suggestions along the way but was always willing to defer to us on issues of taste. From time to time Mark consulted with Kurt, the owner, on details that were particularly complicated (typically on the spot via a phone call or Mark would take video and get back to us the following day). Kurt was quick with his advice and always texted me with start and delivery dates. Although there were one or two rain delays, all the crews arrived exactly when promised. Everyone was very responsive to our needs. Can't recommend Chesapeake enough. Mind you, before contracting with Chesapeake, we got several quoteds from some of the larger companies (one that regularly advertises and can sometimes we found at Ace Hardware stores hawking their services and the other better known for their fence work). Both were quoted prices that were exorbitant (in one case three times the cost of Chesapeake). In short, I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Chesapeake very highly. A great experience all round (but I'm really happy all the construction is done...too stressful). read more

This was a very poor experience. I called to get an inspection of the roof based on a recommendation by our Home Owner's insurance. Called and completely explained the request in detail and when the worker came out he was borderline rude and dismissive, said they didn't do that kind of thing...estimates. They only replaced roofs. Where to begin? This company was recommended to my landlord by the HOA to fix a leak in my roof. The landlord gave me the contact information, and also gave Kurt (I assume he's the owner) my contact info so we could coordinate when he'd be out to take a look at it. He was supposed to call me on a Friday to set something up for the following week. By Tuesday of the following week, I still hadn't heard from him, so I called the landlord back again. Kurt finally called me on Weds morning, saying he would have someone at my house at 1pm that day. Now here's the thing: I WORK. I can't just drop everything and be there at the drop of a hat. That's why he was supposed to call me and schedule this in advance, right? I told him that I couldn't be there at that time, but could leave work early and be there by 2:30 (which wasn't easy), so he said 2:30 would work. So I took off work, went home and waited.....and waited. By 4:30, it was getting dark and still nobody had shown up or called, so I called Kurt back. I told him I was concerned because they wouldn't be able to see the roof in the dark, but he said it wasn't necessary to see the roof. He then said he'd call his worker and see where he was and call me back. When he called back, he said the man was stuck in traffic and would be there within 20 minutes. He finally arrived around 5:30, along with his wife and DOG. Imagine my surprise to open my door and see a chihuahua trying to get in my front door! My dog was going nuts at this dog trying to come into our house, and his wife is just standing on the sidewalk, no leash on the dog, watching the whole thing. Finally, he comes inside and leaves the wife and dog outside. He barely spoke English, and understood even less. I was able to communicate enough to show him where the leak was. He then asked if I had a ladder he could use to get into the attic. Really? What kind of roofer doesn't bring a ladder? I told him all I have is my kitchen stepladder, and he said he'd have his wife hold that for him, and he'd just "jump" into my attic, pulling on the sides of the hole in the ceiling to get up there, which is what he did. After spending about 2 minutes in the attic, he came out and said he'd be in touch with me to let me know when they'd be back to do the work, that it would probably be that Friday. Nobody ever called me, and I never saw anyone show up. But the following Tuesday (Nov 12), I got an e-mail from Kurt with an invoice for $575. I forwarded this to my landlord, but told him I questioned if they actually did the work, since I never saw anyone and they never called me. He called Kurt, who told him that they had come the day before (Monday) while I was at work, not bothering to call me like they had said, and that they were able to do all of the work from outside and didn't need to come into the house. Over Thanksgiving, we had a lot of rain, and I noticed four new spots that were leaking. I contacted the landlord again, and he's going with a different roofer this time. I think now we're both questioning the work that they claim was done. How could they have been up there working and not known that there were other bad spots in the roof? I don't know what they did, but I do know that I wouldn't recommend them to anyone based on their lack of professionalism and poor quality of work. read more
