When you're on vacation, you have to be leery of most spas: they know you're not coming back regularly, so why bother? I'm happy to say that Acqua Aveda doesn't fall into this trap, with a friendly, professional staff and a top-notch (in my case) pedicure. I'm annoyed that I can't remember the name of the woman giving me my pedicure because she was incredibly kind when I was having a rough day, and she had this warmth that made me feel better. She also did a *great* job with my hoof-like heels and my nails. Next time I'm in Anna Maria, I'll head back in, and I know I'll get great service again. read more

I booked and had a massage this past weekend.  The massage was terrific.  She asked me prior to the massage about my workouts, which muscles needed attention and accommodated that quite well.  The place was clean.  I tipped her accordingly. When I got to the payment portion, I used a credit card and an amount of $120 appeared.  I inquired as to why the discrepancy between what was on the brochure at the check-in and check-out point in the salon.  On the brochure it clearly states $110 for deep tissue massage.  I was told, "we haven't updated our brochure as yet."  Well, you continue to hand out the brochures, which I received 4 hours prior to my massage when I stopped by in the morning and nothing was said about the information being incorrect at that time.  She did not attempt to pull the brochures, but simply put it back in the pile for the next customers to see. To me this is bad business.  The correct way to have handled it should have been to fix your brochures or don't continue to hand out incorrect brochure information.  Secondly, because what you're communicating in writing, it's "your nickel" to eat, not the customers.  Yes, it's only $10. but it's bad business.  Consequently, you have lost me as a customer and my future massages during the next month on the island will be elsewhere.  And I plan to return next year for another 2 months.  In addition, anyone with whom I speak about massage experiences on the island will hear my story.  So, in the end, yes you have gained $10. but lost a lot more in the long run. In my profession, teaching leadership and coaching leaders in many corporations they understand a Customer's experience is a myriad of events.  It's not just the product or service you came to buy, but how it was served, from beginning to end.  Hopefully, this gets corrected because the excellent massage was overshadowed by a bad experience at the cash register. read more

I was in Anna Maria for a family wedding and we booked 3 pedicure appointments here the day before the wedding. The whole staff was extremely accommodating and very friendly. There were two pedicure stations and we were all allowed to sit and hangout in the nail area. There was a large selection of colors to choose from and they even had a bunch of new fall colors when we went. We had a great conversation and the girls worked fast (while doing an awesome job!). If I'm ever back in town, I will definitely be booking services here again! read more

I needed a haircut that was long overdue, coming from up the north to visit a friend in Bradenton My friend called her salon, Acqua Aveda Salon, and was able to get an appointment for the next day. Shay dyed, cut, and styled my hair like I have never seen before. It was like the magic of Edward Scussorhands! I've had many haircuts in my life, but never one like Shay gave. It was more of performance art! I highly recommend this salon, and I highly recommend Shay. When I'm in Bradenton (Holmes Beach) next time, I will surely book an appointment with Shay... and hope my regular hairstylist understands it! I recently had a mani pedi in this salon. Employees were very nice but it was not the "spa" experience I expected. The nail salon area was very small. You have to climb up onto the deck area for pedicure. The pumps for the water circulation were so loud I couldn't hear anyone speak. 5 Star Salon The girls at the front desk always take such good care of you even if you're just stopping in to look at the product. Make sure you try their hot tea! The coffee is not that good though... Good thing I prefer tea anyway! I got highlights and a cut from Victoria and I was so impressed. Really disappointed with my hair and I had high hopes for this place. I requested a subtle highlight and it was just everything I was dreading to happen. Terrible orange streaky highlights. I've never bleached my hair and it was a nightmare for me. They were professional enough to let me come back in after I decided to call a few days later, but the stylist did the bare minimum. When she finished my hair she gave me a slew of excuses as to why she didn't do a better job and I knew right then she messed up. Also, when she said " well, that was a learning experience for me". Pro tip- don't ever say that to a customer, I didn't come to an aveda salon to be a "learning experience". Super unprofessional read more

I just left the Acqua Aveda Salon after having the best massage I've ever had. Suzanne was my therapist, and she was beyond wonderful. I have had two knee replacements, and two hip replacements, and I am a plus sized woman. She was professional, and kind and respectful. I From the front desk staff to the therapist this place is top notch. I have been going there every year when we come for vacation. This year tops them all. Made an appointment for same day for color and cut. Thought better of it and decided I only needed a hair cut at the moment. Knowing how salons book blocks of time for certain processes, I called back within a few minutes to let them know I would only need a hair cut. I was being respectful of the stylist's time. The receptionist made it sound as though they had plenty of appointments available that day and if I needed to change times, that would be fine. So, when I arrived to my appointment, scheduled for 2:15pm and I arrived at 2:13pm, I was told that my stylist would be right out. I was asked if I wanted a glass of water while I waited. I took the glass of water and waited. And waited. And waited. After sitting and WAITING for 37 minutes, I walked up to the receptionist and said "cancel my appointment. Clearly my time is not as valuable as someone else's!" The receptionist didn't say a word. Instead she huffed and marched over to the bench I was sitting at and picked up my empty glass. As if to scold me for leaving it there. I was so incensed when I left that I called and asked to speak with the manager. I was advised that he was out of the salon. I asked when he would be back and the woman rudely replied "we're working with a skeleton crew until Tuesday!" Ok, not my problem as a customer. That didn't answer my question about the manager's time frame and the attitude is unnecessary. So, to sum this all up. This is an Aveda salon that clearly is poorly managed. They lack employees with couth and have the WORST customer service. read more

I went to Acqua Aveda for many services for my sisters wedding including, moving up my extensions, eyelash extensions, spray tan, make up, up do, and dermaplaning. I have also been frequenting their salon every time I go to Anna Maria Island for 6 plus years. I have always had a great experience when I use them. Unfortunately this time, two of the experiences were not so pleasant. When I got my eyelashes done, the eyelash was glued to my actual eye and caused my eyes to tear up and many fell out until they removed the lash. They did refund me 1/2 of what I paid. The service that I struggled the most with was my hair extensions. They charged me $200 for them to be moved up, which is more than I usually pay, which is $75. You could see the extensions at my scalp and also at the nape of my neck. When I called them about this they let me know that you can always see them in people's hair and since I already only paid $200, they would not be returning any money. I went to my stylist to fix within a week of them doing the extensions and she needed to remove half of the extensions (5 bundles/sandwiches) of errors. I lost hair because the extensions were too close to my scalp and also had sores at the scalp. They also had hair randomly in the extensions and the tape showing in the extensions. I had to pay $75 to my stylist in order to fix them. read more

I love the color my stylist, Cheryl, did and she was so knowledgeable. She even wrote down the formula she used so I can recreate the color when I'm back home. She didn't talk once she started after the foot bath; she used hot towels countered by cold hands;she didn't rush and the pressure was excellent. Absolutely amazing place... my bridesmaids and I came here for mani/pedis the day before my wedding and then hair and makeup the day of and everything they did was perfection! I was thrilled with my hair, Stephanie perfectly executed the style I showed/explained - it was even prettier than the original pictures. And it still looked fabulous at the end of the night (after a very windy ceremony on the beach and dancing all night long). Mary did my makeup - it was flawless and I didn't feel like I had caked-on makeup like has happened at other places. For the very HIGH prices we paid to have our hair done for my wedding, I would expect that the stylist would know how to do the latest up-dos. My MOH asked for a waterfall braid and brought several pictures with her. NONE of the stylists in the salon were able to complete the up do and in the end my MOH ended up with an "up-do" that could have been done at home. My hair (I was the bride) and my mother's hair turned out, OK but for the price I should have left feeling AWESOME. Although most of the staff were very nice, the girl who styled my hair told me how bad sun was for me, and kept telling me she "wished my hair was longer". Frustrating when obviously, I can't grown hair on demand. Of all the places I chose long distance for my beach wedding, this salon was the ONLY bad review I have written. Save your money and frustration and have your hair done elsewhere. read more
