We dined inside ~ a touch of rustic old country; beautiful. The server saw that we were obviously tourists and struggled with the menu. She took the initiative and confidently proclaimed, "I pick, you eat!" with an Italian finger kiss! Our group roared together yes! Simply said ~ everything homemade, everything delicious, everyone eating to gluttony. Felt like your talented aunt cooking all your favorites and making sure you leave with food coma ;) Moltrasio marvelous.

Fantastic food, we had the oso buco with polenta, salami fresh, tagliatelle with boar, cannoli, and lasagne. All were excellent. Well seasoned, good portion size and hot and fresh. The lasagna was great, wonderful bechamela sauce. Canoloni with red sauce and cheese was baked to perfection and clearly hand-made. The service was very nice and helpful. Our broken Italian and her English was just fine. Toward the end of the meal, what I believe was the mother came out and asked how everything was. Tuto bene? (Is everything good?) She asked, we replied tuto molto, molto bene (everything was very, very good!) . She smiled and patted us on the shoulders as a thank you. We plan to return before leaving this area.

Dinner is the main attraction, the menu is modern and fitting of the rest of the property's atmosphere -- definitely leaning more towards the degustation/gastronomy type of fine dining, so diners should come expecting that. Although, I was just as much (if not most) delighted by the bread service which were noticeably out of the oven just before arriving at the table every time. The menu has 3 formats -- split by 2 that are different tasting formats, followed by 1 page that is a la-carte for however many courses you would like. Having tried all 3 menus in as many evenings, there was a good amount of variety, with a high degree of creativity and innovation throughout -- and very filling. The beverage program is impressive as well, with a beautiful cellar on full display -- although I took the recommendations for a glass of wine to pair with dinner, which was terrific each time. The staff + service was a clear standout, consistent and wonderful. The staff is noticeably young, very warm and upbeat and inviting. While I wish I got everyone's names, ALESSANDRO, MARY, and ROBERTO were always amazing and wonderful, they truly knew how to provide for a great experience and always went above and beyond.

I loved this restaurant…read more Fair warning: It is a bit of a hike to get to Piazzaga. Up the main road (a steep, cobbled road that should really only be taken with a four-wheel drive vehicle) it is around 6km. If your'e walking, park in Torno and ask a local how to find the Mulattiera to Piazzaga which is a long stairway that takes a more direct route to the village. Neither way could be considered easy, however. As I was told when I was coming here: "Wear good shoes and bring water." The area is gorgeous and the vistas of the lake are spectacular. I assure you, the restaurant and the beauty of the area are worth the hike, even if you're not normally a hiker. The restaurant itself is a cute little place consisting of a small dining room, a patio overlooking the lake and mountains, a bar and a small kitchen. The staff is friendly and Alex is the self-described best chef in Piazzaga. I fully agree. I enjoyed the rustic decor of the restaurant and while the patio has only patio furniture, it is worth having a nice meal out there on a nice day for the view. Sadly there are a couple of poorly placed trees in a lot below that prevent a perfect view of the lake, but that can hardly be helped. As to food, I was there for lunch. I started with Canederli which, as an American, I had never had the privilege of trying before. Thus, I cannot compare it to anyone else's. I can, however, say that it was fantastic in flavor and presentation. For my main course I had Roast Rabbit and Polenta. All that was left on the dish when I finished was some rabbit bones. I'll let that speak for itself. For dessert I had cake, made that morning at the restaurant, and espresso. The cake was more a combination of what we would call a tart and a cake in the US, so it was a bit different than what I expected but it was very good. All-in-all I have to say my experience here was fantastic. If you are in the Como area, it is worth a bit of a drive and hike to get up here and give it a try.

Since the food was good, I have to give a 4 star to be fair to the chef. It was a small nice restaurant and a place for a romantic dinner. Their appetizers were creative and well-seasoned. Also if you are a fan of Foie Gras, you are in for a treat. It was rich and buttery with a silky texture that just melted in your mouth. Their vegetable Soufflé was interesting in a good way. One of the appetizers came with a variety of fish and it was delicious and eye pleasing. The pasta was cooked al dente and slightly chewy. Overall they really delivered great food. Of course, it could be a perfect dinner if our mood wasn't tempered by the attitude of the waiter. The price was reasonable. Just make sure to reconfirm what you ordered to prevent any confusion. Our waiter's confrontational approach and unwillingness to accept responsibility really turned a beautiful dinner experience to a great disappointment.

We were hoping for a table by the lake, but due to a rain and thunderstorm, we were seated inside but had a beautiful view. We ordered cocktails right away, and they came to the table and were delicious. The waiter brought out an amuse bouche which was perfection on a plate. Two plates each with two beet tarts, and two crackers with chicken mousse, and then an egg with the top removed filled with egg foam and prosciutto chunks on the bottom. We loved everything and looked forward to our dinner. Service up to this point was excellent. We each ordered our dinners, and my husband asked for a wine list. Our dinners were delivered, and a server dropped off the wine list. My husband waited and waited while eating his meal and no one came back to take his wine order, our server appeared MIA and never came back to check on us, our meals, if we wanted another glass of wine. We finished our meals, and we sat and sat, and sat for nearly 40 minutes before our server showed back up with the dessert menu. At this point we were annoyed. We all expected much more of a Michelin-star restaurant. We declined dessert, and again we waited at least 20 minutes if not more to get our bill. What started out as a special evening with a stunning view and excellent food ended on a negative note. The restaurant is quite pricey, and the food was delicious, but there are other restaurants in Moltrasio that are just as good with better service.
