ACS was the third school I walked into on my journey to find a place to train Jiu Jitsu. After meeting Drew and having my first private lesson I knew this was the school for me. Drew immediately made me feel like I was part of the team and didn't brush me off like I was just another person who may or may not stay, which is what I felt at the first school I visited. From day 1 I was given the same amount of attention and respect from the instructors as the guys that had been training here for years. The other students also made joining this gym an easy decision. I was immediately greeted with respect by all of them and there were absolutely no egos in the gym. Everyone was more than willing to help out. As far as instruction goes, Drew and Cooper are both top notch instructors and genuinely care about the students. They both make a point to ensure all students are receiving and understanding what they are teaching. They are both very personel guys and have the ability and patience to explain the small details that are often overlooked and are always willing to explain any question about anything we might have. Since I stepped into this gym I've never felt so at home. This isn't your typical MCdogo you see around every were now. These coaches and people there really dedicate to helping you as much as they can. We're Constantly learning new things in every class! All of the coaches are so skilled and have so much to offer! Initially I went into American Combative Systems to get some exercise, but I ended up finding my new favorite hobby. ACS had everything a fighter could dream of, plenty of mat space, skilled instructors, and one of the most positive learning environments I've ever seen. At first you are overwhelmed by the skill and techniques of others there, but as the weeks pass by you realize how much you have been learning. What ACS teaches you is not only conventional and effective Mixed Martial Arts but a necessary component of anyone who wants to defend themselves. So, I weighed myself today before my workout. I have lost 22 pounds since Thanksgiving. As for my workout, today was at American Combative Systems. I want to recommend this gym to anyone who is looking for a professional safe environment to get your MMA on and the cobwebs off. While it is a true fighter's gym, they have made me feel encouraged by my progress instead of discouraged by how far I have to go. I've been training at ACS since June of 2010. I can honestly say this is one of the best places to go for training in martial arts. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is top notch. The judo program is awesome. The wrestling is intense and the striking is always great. there are even kid's programs that are available to those that are too young to work with the older people. It's a very easygoing atmosphere. Any and everyone is welcome to come and try it. Don't let that fool you, the training there is intense and I always feel great afterwards. For the longest time my friend nico said that I should come train at his gym. To be perfectly honest I regret not coming sooner. The guys over at American Combative Systems-both the coaches and peers-are amazing. It is such a positive environment. There is no ego, no superiority complexes...just learning and improvement. I came into American Combative Systems about a year ago. My friend Nico always told me to come but I was a bit skeptical, but I finally bit the bullet and tried it out. I wish I had come sooner. My son and I went with his coach Kevin Love along with a few other guys from Alpha Omega in Angleton. It was a very wonderful experience and they all enjoyed the few hours there learning from the seminar. From the moment we all walked in I felt welcomed and treated with kindness. I started at this gym a month ago. I learned about it through school. Starting I was just going to get in shape and learn a new skill, but my first day everyone was so nice and friendly.
