Because she has many years experience as a nursery school teacher and she runs a nursery school in the same building, she naturally thought of the continuum of care combining services for the aging and the very young. She often brings her nursery school kids to visit "grandparents" next door at The Gathering Place. I am impressed with the laughter and caring atmosphere along with a staff of devoted and well trained volunteers. If you are a person living in the York area and you are involved in caring for an aging parent, I highly recommend this program. Jill has made her program flexible, allowing participants to come as often or as infrequent as they wish and the cost is very reasonable. It is an opportunity for elders to enjoy time away from home or facilities, to socialize and and enjoy a variety of activities. They are open Mon, Tues and Thurs from 11 AM to 3 PM and the cost is $40 a day, much lower than other programs I have checked out in our area. I was told that my father and family would receive so many services, but , in reality - he /we received nothing!! On the day my father died, the assigned nurse was called to let her know what was happening ( my father was in a rehab) .... she only replied, " call me when his status changes...". My father never received his last rights because I was overwhelmed .... on the day he passed there was no visit from ANYONE -even though a ' personal care visit ' was scheduled. We ( my father and my family) never received one thing that was promised!!! As my father's healthcare proxy, I was very clear about my expectations ... NOTHING was honored!! I live everyday with the choice I made when signing an agreement with Circle Home Hospice ... I made a HORRIBLE mistake!!! Don't use this agency .... please!!!

This is my first experience with Hospice and I have to say I'm truly disappointed by this agency…read more My husband died a week ago; no one from the agency has called to send their condolences (he was in hospice care at home for many months-so they were familiar with our family). He had many nurses and not one primary care nurse. It's seems like the employee turn around is massive. In 8 months he had at least 5 nurses. We had one fantastic home health aid, but I had to literally had to fire another one and ask her to leave because of the tone she used with my husband. I understand sometimes HHA's have to encourage patients to participate in ADL's but they should do so with kindness and respect, these folks are dying! Hospice makes $200.00 from medicare and what we got with that was a HHA for about an hour a day, meds and rental equipment. He saw a nurse for about 20 minutes each week. Hospice Agencies are for profit and they made a lot of money off of my husbands case. There are plenty of other Hospices in the area, do not use this one. Huge employee turn around, marginal nursing care, slim pickings on the home health aids and very little emotional support for my husband or our family.

Beach access is $10 a head, which may seem steep but I think is pretty average for beaches nowadays. The sand was nice, the beach staff was friendly, and the water was SO clean. There are a couple of small parking lots that fill up quickly, but it's okay to park along the street. The paved foot path along the river is over one mile long. Not to mention all the summer events like the African festival and Southeast Asian Water fest, among so many others. This is a nice, paved, well-maintained multipurpose path with lots of benches to sit on while you enjoy the beautiful Merrimack river. Well-lit at night with street lamps, it's the perfect place to watch a sunset while you enjoy an icecream cone from Heritage ice cream across the street. It's wonderful to see all the regulars while you walk and all the families enjoying the city. Arguably the best free thing you can do in Lowell on an evening.

I really like that everything is open for visibility's sake, so I don't have to work hard to keep an eye on my kids, even from all the way across the park. It makes it somewhat hot without any shade, but it's not too bad since everyone is getting soaked on the splash pad anyhow. My only complaint is that it's pretty crowded here for much of the summer, so you have to keep a close eye on the little ones so they don't get run over by the bigger kids.
