Came here for my tire swap because my normal place was fully booked. It was easy to book an appointment online but I didn't get any reminders or anything so I was very glad when I showed up on the day of my appointment and they were good to go. Overall, they were nice and I appreciated the service. However, I didn't have the key for my tire locks handy and they said they can just rip them off but I really thought the key was in the kangaroo pouch of my back seat. I asked them to check there since I wasn't allowed in the service bay and they said no luck, it wasn't there. They ended up stripping the locks and swapping my tires. The service cost more than my usual place but I was okay with it. Fast-forward to me cleaning my car and I found the key EXACTLY WHERE I ASKED THEM TO CHECK. Boy was I mad. I don't know why they didn't look where I had clearly said it was but it was very frustrating. Im hesitant to come back for much more than a straightforward service next time but will say the man at the front desk was nice. read more

Booked and asked to top up fluid levels and confirm where muffler noise was coming from as well as source of oil leak. When I arrive to pick up the vehicle I'm being charged close to $900 for a "tune-up". They had called earlier and detailed the source of the issues which would cost close to $1500 which I declined, so I suppose to a tune-up was done to obtain more than half that dollar value. read more

In the summer, I had a flat tire and my regular mechanic was on vacation. G&R said all my tires needed replacing (they were brand new that spring) and that it wasn't safe to drive my car. I came here to get my summer tires replaced to my winter tires. I usually go to Canadian Tire but this year, the service dept doesn't seem to answer their phone! The prices are comparable. If you want your tires balanced, they charge per tire while other places charge for all 4 tires (charging per tire comes out to be more expensive). The advantage with this location is that it is only a 7-minute walk from me. The staff are courteous. They will call you when your vehicle is ready. It seems to be a father-daughter team. There is a large outdoor parking lot where you can park your car at drop off and they park your car there when they are finished. I believe they have a service where you pay rent for them to store your off-season tires. There is no free WiFi. There is a gender neutral washroom. read more

My wife took my car to AGR at Limeridge Mall Hamilton to get a slow leak fixed under warranty as there was a nail embedded in the tire. The car was returned to her and their professional opinion was that there was no leak and their technicians would have found it if there was one. We returned a few weeks later to have this fixed, and this time, they were able to find the giant nail sticking out of the tire and fix the leak. Little did I know at the time, they severely over torqued all of my lug nuts (I assume they cranked them on with a pneumatic tool and didn't bother to use a torque wrench). A few weeks later, I needed to change my front brake pads as there was absolutely nothing left of them. As a side note, the technician had written in my inspection form that he checked the brake pads and there was 8mm of pad left, clearly he just wrote that as standard practice without doing any inspection of them. It took the weight and strength of myself and another fully grown man to loosen the wheel nuts in order for me to get my wheel off, stripping nut caps in the process. After finishing the brake on one side, I decided to wait on the other side because the 2 of us couldn't even loosen any of the lug nuts. Another couple weeks pass and I am at the Ford dealership getting a recall fixed. I ask them if they could loosen and re-torque my lug nuts because they were extremely over tightened - to an unsafe level. It took the Ford mechanics over a half hour to remove my lug nuts as they told me they were ridiculously tight. In the process, more nuts were stripped and ruined. This ended up costing me hundreds of dollars to replace the lug nuts. What if my wife got a flat tire while driving and had to take off the wheel? Not a chance she would have been able to. I kindly explained this to AGR the following day, asking for an explanation and reimbursement for the cost of my lug nuts. The service manager Drinni Berisha bluntly told me that they did not over tighten the lug nuts, it is a shame that Ford mislead me to believing this, and there would be no reimbursement for their negligent work. There was no apology or any kind of sympathy. In my experience, Active Green and Ross at Limeridge Mall has horrible mechanics, horrible management, and even worse customer service. I have been there twice and both times their staff were negligent and under-qualified to do mechanic work. I will never take any vehicle there again and I recommend nobody does. I recently needed to take my wife's car in for and oil change and winter tires to Active Green And Ross 19 Crestwood Rd. , and ended up needing a front brake job as well. My experience with Green and Ross extends well over 10 years. Why so long? Trust. This trust has been earned over time, by me expecting the transparency of the pros working on my vehicles, and the front staff communicating the issues with clarity and in a language that even the novice in me could understand. If I have an issue with a diagnosis , I just ask the mechanic to show me the problem. I have yet to prove the pro mechanic (Chris, the best mechanic that I've ever met), wrong. Repairs are expensive, so communicating what goes into a repair, is the front of house managers job. At my location Rob and Bhavneet do an excellent job and are good conversationalists as well. I can't speak for all of the Green and Ross's but my location is serving me and my family well. I also have recomended this location to my good friends and they all have had good service as well. My wife had been taking her van to Active Green & Ross on Main West opposite McMaster for Oil & lube service and tires for a couple of years because it was handy to our previous home. After one service, they recommened changing the oil pan, the lines to the transmission and changing the transmission fluid. She made the appointment and on the day asked that only some of the work be done at that time. They did it all anyway. I noticed after the work that the transmission was shifting out of the lower gear very hard with a noticeable clunk. I went back and spoke to the service rep from the desk who was standing outside the front bay having a smoke. His reply was that model is notorious for doing that. I asked if they could please check the level of fluid in the transmission and he said there was no longer a dip stick and it was quite a process and to come back the next day. I agreed and then felt I should seek another opinion, so I called and cancelled the appointment. I took the car elsewhere and they produced their own dip stick and determined the transmission was overfull. It took a few days to get a pump to remove the excess. In the meantime my alternator failed and when I had these new service people replace it, they also took care of the transmission fluid overfill. The transmission is now not shifting hard. My next problem was running over a shopping cart in our underground garage and cutting the tire. I called Green and Ross Main West and based on my description was told their road hazard insurance wouldn't cover it. I would have hoped he might have at least asked to see it before making the call. Needless to say, we're taking our business elsewhere. read more

Avoid!!!!! Came here for a wheel alignment appointment and had to wait 3hrs to get my car in. Mechanics couldn't loosen up my tire rods so they couldn't align the wheels. The front desk/manager Tony decides to charge me $80 because I took up their time!! Stated he could've charged me for the full service, lie and said he aligned my wheels!!! Stay Clear Paid for an oil change and 20km later the oil light came on saying I had no oil and to refill immediately. I had to find the nearest gas station and had to pay for 2L to fill the car. I took pictures of the display showing the odometer so he could compare to his invoice and see I only drove 20km. When I went in and spoke with him he didn't want to look at any pics and kept saying his people wouldn't do that. My tire warning light was on as I was driving my husband to the hospital for chemo. I had a long way to drive home and was worried. I passed by this store and checked ( before opening time) . The owner/manager was there and he was very understanding and told me to come back after dropping off my husband. He took me in right away and told his staff to check the problem for me. Staff checked and fixed the tire pressure and took the time to explain to me why the light was still on ( either drive a while and check if still on, or may be problem of computer and suggested to check with dealer) . Very patient young man to help a senior woman. When i took the key back and asked for the fee, he said no charge . He was like an angel sent to me during my stressful time and his staff was excellent too. I would highly recommend this place. read more

Brought my car for a winter to summer tires replacement and, since my driver door is not working perfectly, the technician decided to open the window and the glass cracked because "he couldn't open the door". First, why are you opening windows??? and if you encounter a problem, I am just a phone call away!!! They had my cell number. I guess I was another victim of this location and of this company. Took the car in for an emissions test. So far so good. Suddenly asked to spend $500 for an additional test because my engine light was not working. I told the manager that I did not understand and would seek a second option. Later as I picked up the car proceeded to tell the manager that he did not have good communications skills as I still did not get how an emissions test would wind up with an additional $500 test plus any "new" mechanical needs. He is now shouting at me (I did shout back) and is now bringing people up front to join in... Get out of of here you $#@$# and take your $@#$# car with you. avoid at all costs. nightmare. their bad oil change cost me a blown engine on my mercedes. they refused to take responsibility initially until i threatened small claims lawsuit. they overtightened cap on my oil pan, cracked it and all my oil leaked out. caused engine to blow. $10,000 repair later and needed new engine. difficult to resolve the issue with. initially unwilling to accept fault. they made a settlement claim for the majority of damages but still took my money and offered no accountability, no remorse and offered no apology or refund to the damages sustained. avoid avoid avoid avoid. read more

Took my car in for winter tires. Bought the whole rim and tire pakage with them, the price is fair and they seem nice and knowledgeable enough. Everything goes wrong from here. First they are a whole hour late at the time they promised me, made me sit there and wait. Second, they don't know what they are doing with my car's tire pressure sensor and screwed it up. I drive in again next day to have it reset and they made me wait for another hour! I think when you didn't do it properly the first time, you should give extra attention to your paid customer. Now they still can't set it right as they promised and ask me to bring my summer tires in so they can figure out how to set it. The trouble aside, I didn't even get a sorry from them. read more

CLUELESS HORRIBLE NEW MANAGEMENT ! I was a long time customer at this location. I had lots of work done here over the years. I changed my own spark plugs and had a faulty plug so my car was shaky cause a cylinder was misfiring. My car had no other problems. Monday 830am I called Active Green and Ross and explained the problem they said no problem send it in and that they would take a look at it. 1030am My car arrived at the garage 400pm I I called to check if they took a look at it they said they didn't get a chance to, but it was now in the garage bay and that they would check it first thing in the morning. ( a little disappointed but ok ) Tuesday 930am I called to see what was wrong with the car. I was transferred to new management and Iasked if they checked the car. I was told that there's more than just the spark plugs wrong with my car. I assured him the car was perfectly fine to check the spark plugs. Again he kept hinting that there was a lot more wrong with the car. I asked if they had looked at it yet and what was wrong. He said they didn't get a chance to look at it yet. So I asked how does he know if he hasn't checked it yet. This was odd to me and made me feel like he was trying to decieve me. He told me that he had started it and that after he tried to start it but the battery was dying out. One of the symptoms of a faulty spark plug is a drained battery. Does he not know this? So I was getting frustrated. Again he assured me he would put his 2 best guys on it shortly. Wednesday 830 am I called to see the status of my car certain they had at the very least checked it by now. Maurice answered ( very nice professional) then it sounded like the phone was ripped out of his hand. New management answered and I asked if he had checked the car yet he said not yet. I asked if he could give me a rough idea of when he would check it. He said he couldn't give me an answer. I told him that any job anyone could give some sort of rough idea. I asked if it would be roughly 1 day 2 days or a month. He told me he had no idea and couldn't tell me. So I asked if he Clueless? He snapped and started screaming DONT USE THAT LANGUAGE YOU ARE BEING RECORDERED. i was shocked i apologized and asked what did i say to offend him. He then stated if i want i can go pick up my car cause its outside. I was told it was inside on monday what was it now doing outside 3 days later? Thursday 1200 called at lunch asked if he looked at it he said no. I would've called him every name in the book but he still had my car I didn't want him to do anything to it. I felt this was such a shady operation from the get go. I told him please not to touch the car that I would be by to pick it up he still hadn't checked it. I went to another mechanic. I waited 1 amd a half hours they checked it out yup faulty spark plug. Nothing more. 4 days vs 2 and a half hours All the bad reviews get a response stating they're under new management. It's the new management that is the problem. The old management was great. I never write reviews but this is situations they were made for I guess. Never been to a more clueless garage. Stay away save the aggravation. I was promised multiple times it would be looked at. Everyday I was assured it would be. I was being told it was more than it wasnt felt pretty shady to me Was screamed at for asking if he was clueless after he couldn't tell me any timetable whatsoever. Supposedly clueless is a bad word. They dont update you call you no communication whatsoever and when you call to ask they make you feel like your asking for something impossible Just all around bad, very unprofessional customer service experience. most people would fret at first when they brought their value-decreasing car into any mechanics. everyone has heard of someone being ripped off. now i dont know whether it has something to do with the fact that they are a well known company and have a corporate image to uphold, but every time i went inside to get an oil change they were always very efficient and polite. they also spent the time explaining to me what was wrong beyond an oil change and would outline for me the pros and cons of doing a repair. if for example i didnt need a repair done right away theyd say as much. i know that theyll look for whatever they can do, whatever needs fixing, but never did i take it there, get something fixed and have a problem afterwards. read more

Needed new tires in summer of 2014 for our forerunner and got them here. Returned November 2015 screw in tire. They told me that the screw was in a place that did not allow repair and we would need a new tire and also would need a match on the other side for balance and wear. Left and went for advice to our own mechanic. He investigated and found the screw was small and had not caused a leak. No charge. Be careful dealing with these guys. read more

I cannot recommend this place. I needed warranty work for tires purchased there, for which I paid $7.50 per tire at purchase. I brought in the removed tire, and told I would have to wait a while I left it for repair. I was charged for a valve stem that I later realized was not even required because they do not change the valve stem when there is a sending unit for the warning light. I was charged labour to remount the fixed tire and reset the warning light. I was charged for balancing. I was charged another $7.50 to cover the new tire. I was not called when it was ready, and had to call them. I had to wait through a lunch break I wasn't warned about, and then more than another half hour to get it put on. Routinely charging customers for a valve stem not used tells me a lot. They have to know better. Or maybe everybody does that. Oh, most importantly, here is a funny story. I had an awful lot of trouble getting the flat tire off the car. I needed a longer bar than that supplied with my car. It turns out the tire lug nuts had been way way way overtightened when I purchased the tires. I have now loosened and retightened to a proper 80 foot pounds the torque of the nuts on all four tires, all of which were hugely over-torqued on the original tire purchase and installation, and then again on the repaired one. I had to use a two foot long bar to get the nuts loosened,, so they had likely been installed at over 150 foot pounds. The funny thing is that one of the articles I read while waiting in their office was a tire trade magazine article about the damage that can result from over-torquing lug nuts. Warped discs, damaged rotors and broken studs, and more. Now, if and when I get a flat tire at least I'll be able to remove it with the short wrench that is part of the jack kit in the car. read more

After calling around a few places I found that the Active Green + Ross (on Gerrard) not only gave me the best quote but also insured me that they have the best prices on the tires I was looking for. Mike, the sales person, told me that he would have the tires there next day. When I showed up next day at 10AM I was greeted by Mario who told me that the tires were there and that it will take about two hours for tires and wheel alignment. They finished at 11:30 and when I saw my car outside I went to get it but the mechanic said he would take it for a quick road test to make sure all is OK. Shortly after the test drive gave me the car and explained what they did. I took this car to the dealership for an alignment because it was pulling a little to the left. Well after three tries the car still pulled to the left. I was so impressed with the alignment from Active Green + Ross on Gerrard. The alignment is perfect. AVOID THIS PLACE!! After getting my oil changed, i noticed a gas-like smell in the car when I would stop at a light. I popped the hood to find the oil cap just laying there and the whole engine covered/splattered with oil! How careless do you have to be to not screw the oil cap back on!?! Also, when I just went to the corporate web site to complain, it told me the verification code I entered was wrong. (It wasn't) and then when the page refreshed, it had SOMEONE ELSE'S PERSONAL INFO filled in along with their complaint!! Seriously. So does that mean that the next person who goes to fill in that form will end up with my personal info?! That is completely unacceptable. Con: When I realized I meant to ask for the spec sheet on the wheel alignment so I could view the before and after alignment specs, I was advised that they wouldn't have been able to provide it because their printer was broken. ...Guess I should have asked before scheduling the service if getting a printout of the specs would be a problem. This Active Green and Ross is right across from my house so I thought it would be convenient to take my 2006 Mazda 6 in for an oil change. How wrong was I. This shop is not one where I would feel comfortable with their technical skill, or their honesty. I pulled my car into the back of the shop in the morning and left for work. At 10:30, Mario, the owner called me and said that they were having trouble getting my car into reverse to get it out of the shop. This was puzzling, as I had never had any trouble with my gear-shift, and the mechanic had to back my car out of the parking space into the garage. After work I went to pick up my car that had been pulling into a tight parking space behind the shop. Sure enough reverse didn't work but Mario and his crew offered no apology or even assistance. I had to PUSH my car out of the parking spot while they watched...they only came to offer assistance when it was clear I was going to hit another car. Mario first all but accused me of trying to swindle him when I raised the puzzling issue of how a gear-shift could spontaneously break. Subsequent attempts to get resolution resulted in Mario admitting that the damage happened in his shop, but that it wasn't intentional. In his mind, just because they hadn't purposefully damaged my car, they were not in any way liable for the damage. I ended up paying $350 to get my car fixed at a reputable and ethical mechanic. (Thanks to Yelp's top pick) Repeated attempts to get resolution have resulted in letters of deniable responsibility from head office. Franchises like this need to be held accountable and customer service needs to be improved. read more

I got a $2,000 quote for replacing a/c lines at Cdn Tire. I got a $1,000 quote from Active. I got good recommendations from co-workers who have gone here for years. I saw bad reviews on Yelp. Cars have parts that fail over time. Be reasonable!!! The lines were replaced as quoted. I requested the heater control valve. I was notified of serpentine belt and water pump. Several other things got done including things I was not charged for. I'm very pleased with the results and service. read more
