Been coming to McDermott Motors for a couple of years now to do repairs, services and maintenance on my 2008 BMW X3. Jason, Sam and John have been attentative, responsive and reasonable throughout all my interactions with them. Most recently I've been dealing with some troublesome and complex dashboard light issues related to the brakes and CEL. Spent over a month of frustration addressing the reoccurring issues non-stop. They found the ultimate/worst case issue pretty early on but agreed that we should try and find work arounds to fix the problem before I drop over $1000 on replacing the rear axle and wheel sensor. In the end, we exhausted our options and I had to get the rear axle and wheel sensor replaced. After driving around with it all weekend, all issues seem to be resolved and the car seems to be reacting a lot more stable. I appreciate the fact that McDermott Motors were able to accommodate a lot of the reoccurring accumulating fees as a result of dealing with this expensive, frustrating and troublesome issue for the past month. Moral of the story, unless you love to spend money, perhaps consider a non-BMW for your next car. read more

Very quick service. Called day before to get new all season tires and they were able to fit me in the next day. I'd say the only negative thing is that they said they would be open at 7:30am and I got there right at 7:30 and had to wait about 15 minutes before someone came to open up the shop. However once in my car was ready by 1pm. Scheduled my winter tire swap already for October, so will be back. read more

These guys are experts, delivering customer service that you'd expect from a 5-star hotel (atypical of a service centre for your car!) I must say, I'm impressed. From the first phone call to book my car in, they were pros. The guy on the other end was very friendly, conversational, well mannered, knowledgeable and accommodating. What more could you really ask for? He offered me a Tuesday or Wednesday appointment and sensed in my voice that I was disappointed. He asked, "were you hoping for something sooner?" I explained that I had to go to Ottawa on Tuesday, so he asked me to come by Monday mornings and said they would squeeze me in. Upon arrival I was greeted by a quick (intelligent AND witty), friendly, efficient rep who checked me in. I use a fleet service and he took care of absolutely everything, making my drop-off a breeze. Honestly, I was sort of hoping that I could have used my car on Monday, but they ended up having it all day. That was the only bummer, but that said, they did squeeze me in, so beggars cannot be choosers. When I picked up my car, all there was to do was pick up the key, and get a copy off paperwork. All of the billing had been expertly handled. Oh, except one thing! They asked if they could "book a reminder call" in March to get my snow tires taken off. Honest Mechanic!! I know this term is usually an oxymoron but this is THE most honest, courteous and knowledgeable car repair shop I've ever been. I needed a place that was quick and could look at my car right away since I seemed to have a slow leak. This has been an issue on my high end German car that starts with "M" for a few years. The delicate geniuses at the dealership always needed a reservation and always said it was my fault and the way I drive but it was always the same tire. So I checked Yelp that day and saw these high ratings for McDermott. They took me right away and I ended up being charged only $69 and for the first time had a reasonable explanation as to what was going on. These guys are the best. I would normally find affordable services just outside of downtown but I decided to check out this lesser known place since finding a good auto services is a challenge in the city. McDermott Motors provided very friendly service that cares about the needs of their customers. By phone and in person, they were very friendly, courteous, honest and straight forward about parts and service quotes. There's no hassle in convincing me that they are good at what they do, unlike some auto services normally do to get sales. As for service, they were prompt. I watched the owner(as he introduced himself to me when I dropped off my car) keep up with the service as customers came to pick up their cars. He was on his feet multitasking and working with the mechanics. The mechanics were just as friendly and courteous as the owner. They did the job as requested and did a little more to make sure that the car was fully checked before it left the shop, all within the quote given. Quotes on parts and labour are what you would expect from other places, reasonable. read more

I discovered my completely flat tire as I was hopping into my car on my way to work. I quickly called McDermott Motors and asked if I could get the flat repaired. They said I could bring it in right away, no problem. So I threw my spare on and brought my car over in the next 5 minutes. Within 2 hours, I got a call saying my car was ready. Jason from McDermott Motors will hold your car in a Pandemic for three days for a blown tire an tell me that he is not forensics or C.S.I (that is so rude)and also claim originally that the blown back rear right tire was from hazardous driving on my end coming off the highway when I am driving normally speed on the highway ... please tell me if driving on the highway is hazardous. Also Jason from McDermott Motors will give you the run around that replacement tires takes time... it's a process. Two days laters still no contact about the process of the replacement tire from the point in time of taking my car back from Jason three days of sitting in the McDermott lot. Calling to book an appointment to pick up my car Lead to me being disconnecting or the phone always going to answering machine. I can't keep taking days off work to deal with a blown tire that Michelintires told me to deal with McDermott Motors to have the replacement ready. I almost got into accident on the highway where I am lucky that there were no accidents or any additional fatalities in this pandemic. Jason from McDermott Motors looks like he is trying to double dip with Michelin and the Tire warranty and my wallet and his tire shops is considered essential service in this Pandemic. I see Jason's priority which his money and not my safety which Michelin stands by. We are in a Pandemic and this is how Jason from McDermott Motors treated me with his rudeness and my safety not being important especially when Michelin referred me To McDermott Motors. I will cut ties with both McDermott Motors and Michelin tires and spread the word that there is a two teir system at McDermott Motors were Jason works and it not your safety in a Pandemic. That being said it is competitive out there they have definitely competitive prices, a great location and are EXTREMELY helpful and informative. If asked, they would be a place I would recommend. Here, Rick spent so much time explaining what to look for in a good tire and what aspects I should look for depending on my car and the type of driving I do. He worked with my price range as well and gave me a lot of advice. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. Quite different than most places that are simply out to make a profit - which I've come across many times with any car issues ( maybe it's because I'm a woman instead of a man? Who knows). He was so helpful that I feel bad I didn't end up getting my tires here, but enough to make this review and reco them online and to friends and family. read more

Here's a place where you get the straight goods. I keep coming back because I know these folks are truly interested in keeping my old van on the road in good working order and that I'll be safe on the road. When I drop it off, I know they'll take a minute to have a look over the vehicle and make recommendations on what must be done and the repairs that can wait. They've saved me tons of money over the past three years simply by helping me to avoid buying a new van but I also know they'll be clear about how long it will last. I was recently contacted by McDermott Motors to remind me my car was due for a seasonal service. I have to admit that was actually saddened by the fact that I no longer had a car for them to service! We had recently decided to go without an automobile as I no longer needed one for work. McDermott was the primary service provider for my 1991 Mazda Protegé -- a car I purchased used in 1995. James and his team of experts looked after the car from about 1998 to its very final days in 2011. As well, their expert team took care of my most recent automobile for the past four years. The McDermott folk are honest, timely, and professional. In a sea of automobile service options in Toronto, McDermott provided me with top-notch, fair, and personal service. WORST costumer service. I had my appointment booked 2 weeks prior for winter tires knowing its my day off. Everyone living in Toronto knows how hard it can get to manage your time. Unfortunately I was called in for work later on that day and even though it was only 8 am when i showed up and i could leave my car until 12-12.30 the staff didn't even basically say they would try to do their job. I was told i was obligated to leave my car there for 12 hours until 5 pm. 12 HOURS for tire change. That is definitely not considered costumer service. And yes i did get frustrated at the time because i believe 3.5 hours for the 3rd, 4th or even 5th car there is enough for tire change. Since i had an APPOINTMENT BOOKED. Appointments are make so you guys are not OVERBOOKED. it is your responsibility i am sorry and to top it off!!! they could reschedule for the following Monday but with these crazy schedules i had availability for Wednesday so we reschedule the appointment for Wednesday and AFTER THIS REVIEW i get a call back from McDermott Motors telling me they have to CANCEL because i am NOT A FIT COSTUMER.. i guess only satisfied costumers are welcomed! P.S and i might have came in at 8.25 but the appointment was set to drop the car off util for 9 am not 8! Many thanks for nothing Oh! and one last comment. #1 Rule when interacting with costumers! This place is incredible. I was always frustrated trying to find a mechanic that I felt was honest. I'd constantly ask people that I know if they have a trusted place, and nobody ever had any confident answers. I found this place for my Audi because they specialize in Euro cars (though I'm sure Not exclusively) and because it was super close to my work. They were amazing. When they did a diagnostic they actually sent me pictures and videos of the inside of my engine. There was no just "taking their word" for it. They called, emailed, and texted me with evidence. Also, amazingly, the final cost came hundreds of dollars BELOW the estimate. When does that ever happen? I had follow-up issues (not because of their work)and they took my car in free of charge, and even drove it around with me to try to get to the bottom of the issue. While they fixed that (also no charge) they also fixed a few other little issue I had (headlight spray and wipers) totally free of charge. I could not be more happy with these guys, and I highly highly recommend them-- you know longer have to wonder if your mechanic is screwing you over. read more

Stay away at all costs. They charge you an arm and a leg for the smallest thing. Came in with a broken starter and told the mechanic. Was charged $115 per hour for diagnostic (knew the problem) Was charged $115 per hour for labor (Pretty steep) Was charged $240 for the starter (also seems steep) The entire visit took about an hour yet I was charged for two hours worth of diagnostics and labor. Talked to my normal mechanic. He told me that at most he would charge me (a friend) $260 and that a normal mechanic would charge someone around $300 not $500. When I asked about it, I was being given the worst excuses for it before they hung up. Also didn't get any quotes or estimates until after the job was done. While my car's been fixed every time, there's always been problems along the way - tires not put on properly and I've had to come back, that sort of thing. And, the prices are very high. a first time customer to get tires replace. pros: friendly people and making sure you feel taken care of when you come in and talk about the service. cons: They may not do the service they promised up front when the service claims to be free (but promised that will be done when they show you the price) and they are busy. Make sure you ask them because they won't tell you if they did not. suggestion: please pay attention to serve your existing customer better, not just eager to get new customer. It's o.k. to say you don't have time up front, but it's not nice to break the promise after price agreement by using "we don't have time" as excuse. read more

And while the repair does get done, there are often small mistakes - last time I was there, for example, for a tire rotation, they put one of the tires on backwards (this is possible, so don't laugh).
