When I visited home for a week last year, I had a really rough experience with the flight, I had been feeling unwell and anxious in general for a while. I never had acupuncture before, but when I arrived at the tranquil office, I felt more at ease. I saw Timothy for an acupuncture session, and enjoyed his expertise and skill. Sorry Tim for our late review, daughter is already 3 years old. Wife and I was trying to conceive without ivf for almost 5years. We had unexplained infertility after all the medical test. We did do Iui, 6 times and was about to give up and try Ivf(went to the IVf consultation and cost breakdown). After consulting with Tim, he suggested Iui with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Was worth a last go. After several weeks. All I remember was Tim telling my wife , "You should test if you pregnant, (I think he knew , from vitals .) went to the Fertility(Iui) Dr. to confirm, Dr came in the room after preg test and was shocked . I waited to write my review until after I received a series of acupuncture sessions to be able to discuss in length the full benefits of acupuncture for one's health. He does an extensive intake for your first visit and continues to monitor progress at each visit. I've seen great results. My mom's story is fantastic. After months of painful sciatica in which she had tried nearly everything but shots (physical therapy, etc.), she was ready to try acupuncture. So I brought her to Tim when she was recently visiting. I tend to keep acupuncture and Eastern medicine at the surface, remaining pretty skeptical of what it does. Also, looking at the previous reviews, I wasn't sure whether Tim, the acupuncturist, would be able to help my pulled hamstring or treat me for infertility instead. I had a competition in a week and I was willing to pull out all the stops. Tim is first and foremost my typical impression of an acupuncturist. A calm-spoken and amiable person who I could trust poking needles through my skin. He's also very open to questions and was patient with my skeptical beliefs. I had three visits with Tim, in conjunction with physical therapy at another clinic. I can't say that acupuncture alone healed my hamstring, but within a week of acupuncture with Tim and physical therapy, I felt again at the peak of performance. This won't be a review of whether or not acupuncture works. It's more about the genuine care and gentle treatments he provides, along with a comfortable atmosphere and setting. Nice person but didn't fully know what he was doing. Or maybe my case was unusual and not in his realm of experience. this review is past due. it's from 2013. I went for fertility as I was 43 . but I didn't have any issues as such. but after every treatment I went into a deep anger/depression thing. it was very weird. medically nothing changed. it was the kind of symptoms that one reads about people have when they have PMS rage etc. I would be in bed from depression and then swing to bouts of rage. I am 42 years old and I had been trying to get pregnant for over five years. I had tried a different acupuncturist for over a year or so but I decided to go to Tim since he is closer to where I live, I wasn't seeing results and I wanted to see someone who could also offer me advise on nutrition. I had decided to prepare for IVF as a last resource so I also went to see Tim for support as the fertility clinic recommended him. Tim gave me a lot of nutrition guidelines apart from the acupunture treatment. To my surprise I got pregnant naturally and I didn't have to undergo IVF. Tim has a great bed side manner and really understands your personal history. From there he determines the best course of action. I didn't feel like he would try techniques just to try them....but to make my sessions personal to my story. I have seen Tim over the past nine months for infertility and now for pre-natal care. He really cares. I originally came in needing hope and he was genuine/sincere to my feelings about infertility and acupuncture. He explained all steps and offered suggestions. He never pushed a method on me, rather he would offer his thoughts and let you take your time in making your own decisions. My personal story, with Tim, involved acupuncture, herbs, and going on a gluten free diet. Each week, depending on my treatments with my fertility clinic, he would give me guidance on what I should be doing/eating during that time in my cycle. We worked at it and he changed my entire lifestyle. It was easy to do and something that I can incorporate in my daily routine. It wasn't until me putting together all of these components where I was successful in becoming pregnant. We were told we were at the end of the road by my clinic and that third party was my only option. This is something I began to embrace and accept; however, I had to know that I explored all options first. After several years of extreme neck and shoulder pain due to cervical spine degeneration and almost no mobility in my neck, Tim has me on the road to being stronger, vastly increasing the ability to move my head and, for the first time in a long, long time, living without copious amounts of ibuprofen. Tim is very gentle and immaculate (a must!). He's incredibly knowledgeable of his science and confident in his abilities. Of course, he doesn't tell you that. Rather, it's in his touch. He has the most subtle way of guiding you into therapy rather than ordering you into unknown territory. At first you want to comply because he's so kind. I started going to Tim for treatment of pain in my ankle. I was having a difficult time just walking let alone working out. After the first visit he made my ankle feel better. I was amazed. After a couple months of treatment my ankle pain was nearly non-existent. He has a very gentle touch too. I had never tried acupuncture before and I'm not too keen on needles, so it was nice he wasn't jabbing them in me. Each time I left I felt extremely relaxed and zen-like. This review is wayyy overdue. I came to Tim when he was located on University Ave, with a severe back injury, limping and really needed help to control the pain as I was already out of the prescribed pain meds and tylenol wasnt cutting it. But there was the secondary reason, where I needed help with getting my body back to good health so i could have a baby - I had had multiple miscarriages before. Tim was excellent - not only did he slowly help me cope and control the pain, he also helped me get my health back on track. I was able to conceive and I continued with Tim's treatments for the first trimester, while also getting help from doctors. I think the real difference with having a successful pregnancy that made it past the first trimester and not having to take those numerous fertility drugs to concieve - was acupuncture and Tim's knowledge and patience to work through my health issues. I was a total skeptic before and was dead afraid of needles, but he was kind and patient and funny and he helped me recover and get better and the best reward of all was the birth of my child. Tim has been absolutely awesome! I would strongly recommend him to anyone seeking acupuncture. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I decided to give him a try when I was trying to get pregnant at 42. I had been to the Stanford REI clinic and had tried injectible medications already without success. After 6 weeks of treatment with Tim, I am happy to report that I did get pregnant the next time I did treatment at Stanford! The experience has been eye opening. Tim offers a multi-sided wellness approach. In addition to acupuncture, I took his customized herbs daily and totally changed my diet to his recommended fertility diet. He is much more informed that western doctors in terms of nutrition. For example, my doctor at Stanford said while trying to conceive that I didn't have to stop drinking alcohol or coffee, whereas Tim had me on much stricter plan. I think this made all the difference! I had such a good experience with him that I continued with him through the first trimester to reduce the chance of miscarriage. Lastly, I want to say that his temperament is very easy to work with. Tim worked miracles in relieving pain from an injury I sustained doing yoga. The pain was so great that I could not get into or out of bed without help, and could not walk or move without excruciating pain. After 4 tries of IVF for infertility at 40 years old, I finally got pregnant after starting acupuncture with Tim Nguyen, acupuncurist at Energy Wellness Center. I had tried 3 series of IVF at Stanford, with no luck, and lots of bucks. I started acupuncture twice a week, and the next attempt was a success. He is very sensitive, highly technical and thorough, and is very caring to walk through this new pregnancy with me in weekly acupuncture sessions to increase chances of keeping the baby full term. He has a very relaxing, private acupuncture studio that also has massage services with another practitioner. I highly recommend going to see Tim - he will do a thorough medical history and develop an acupuncture plan to address pain or infertility needs. I especially like that he makes diet recommendations and herbal mixtures as needed.... He even texts me with food or diet reminders. The Energy Wellness Center is a little treasure located tucked behind a nail shop on Unversity Avenue in Palo Alto. Easy free parking in the Cowper parking lot right behind the front door. I truly believe the only thing my husband and I did differently on this IVF cycle to get pregnant, was to start going to acupuncture. Everything just went better...I had twice the amount of eggs produced in half the time (even had a lot of fertility drugs left over we didn't need because I responded twice as well with the acupuncture and went to retrieval early). I started to visit EWC when I was 7 months pregnant with horrible pregnancy related hip pain. Tim's acupuncture treatments made all of my pain disappear and even helped with sleep and energy levels. He is knowledgeable about all things pregnancy related and made the last few months of pregnancy tolerable. At the end, he helped me with induction. I had contractions at the final acupuncture session and easily delivered my baby in the next 7 hours. This was a record considering my first labor was 3 days long. At the risk of making him too busy to see, I would recommend Tim Nguyen without hesitation or reservation. I have had acupuncture in the past, so this review should be read with this in mind- meaning I cannot comment on how he explains what acupuncture is or how he treats people who have never had it before. I was a believer in acupuncture before I went to him. I sought acupuncture treatment from him for various systemic problems (one being leg and hip pain) and the treatments he gave me were extremely effective. I appreciated his gentle and professional manner as well as his respect for my decision to suspend treatment due to financial reasons. That is not to say that he is expensive, because his rates are in keeping with other acupuncturists. More importantly, I would say that his care is more thorough than almost any treatment I have ever had. He took the time to exchange a few emails with me prior to my first visit and sent follow-up information to me after my last visit. I have never had a health practitioner do that before. I am very grateful to Tim and believe my successful pregnancy at 42 has in large part been due to my sessions with Tim. Uniformed and somewhat of a skeptic at first, I am now a believer in the value of acupuncture and herbal remedies. I threw myself into treatments with Tim with a completely open mind and willingness to try many things in order to give myself and my husband the best chance possible to conceive and deliver a healthy baby. I began seeing Tim based on a recommendation to consider acupuncture in preparation for and during IVF from my fertility physician. I started to see Tim several times a week and followed a herbal regime. I got pregnant via IVF the first time we tried. However, 6 weeks into my pregnancy, I developed a blood clot in my uterus. I eventually miscarried at 14 1/2 weeks. We found out via tests after the fact that I have a blood clotting disorder. I continued to go to Tim post my miscarriage to help me heal and to prep my body for another round of IVF. 4 months after my miscarriage and days before I was due to restart IVF, my husband and I conceived naturally. I believe that while the initial fertility drugs may have jumpstarted my system, that acupuncture and specific treatments Tim provided as we were trying to conceive actually made us successful. I continued to go to Tim for acupuncture throughout my pregnancy. However, I stopped the herbal regime during my second pregnancy as I needed to be on medication for my blood clotting disorder and was advised not to take anything additional. As it turns out at birth we discovered our baby girl had a very short umbilical cord which could have led to a host of complications. However, she was born very healthy. I really believe Tim helped make our positive outcome happen through continued treatments during my 9 months of pregnancy and dietary advice. 6 months post birth, I am continuing to go to Tim to help with various aches and general tiredness associated with having a new little one and breastfeeding. Acupuncture is helping me. If I knew what I know now about acupuncture, I would have started acupuncture as soon as I was trying to get pregnant and before trying IVF. I believe acupuncture alone may have helped me conceive without IVF from the getgo. This said, I will never know. Tim's soft, non-pushy style has been a great fit for me. Tim the acupuncturist helped me conceive and carry my pregnancy. Having been skeptical of acupuncture/herbs, I saw three other acupuncturists before finding Tim and had two unsuccessful IVF cycles. He provided herbs and acupuncture a couple months before I began my third IVF cycle and through my first trimester. He is very knowledgeable, gentle, and supportive. He also goes above and beyond.
