I have been going to Acupuncture Together for a couple years now. The new location in Medford is wonderful - lots of local street parking nearby and it's street level with only one small step to enter the center. Acupuncture has helped me control arthritic pain in my knees. In fact, it has been so helpful, I am no longer taking ibuprofen every 6 hours! This was my first time trying acupuncture so I don't have a comparative experience but I enjoyed it. The prices are great and the atmosphere is friendly. I went in to address my upper back pain as well as stress. It has been 4 days and my back does feel better. I plan to go back for at least 2 more sessions to see if it can help for the long term. For those worried about pain, in some places you cannot feel the needle at all and other areas it is a small pinch. Justine was very friendly. However, the office was very busy and we did not have much time to have a 1-1 discussion about treatment. I was placed in the small room which I think I prefer for reasons that other people have said: more whispering, snoring, activity that you're trying to ignore in the large room. read more

I was a total skeptic after reading double-blind studies that showed that the relief from acupuncture was no better than a placebo needle. I am a big fan of community acupuncture, and Acupuncture Together is a great model. They offer other resources too such as information on specific conditions (i.e. trying to quit smoking, cancer, etc), herbal treatments, and various other products. Booking my first appointment was easy. I did it through their website portal and received email reminders of my appointment. I drove to their offices and was grateful to learn they provide parking passes to their clients for the lot behind their building. The offices are comfortable and cozy - offering tea, water, and healthy snacks as you wait. The acupuncture room is quite large and fits many clients - which is good because they seem to have a large devoted client base. The seats offered are relaxing. Plus, they offer warmers for your bare feet during your session. The acupuncturist, Jess Butler, was wonderful. During the intake meeting, she asked questions based on my intake form to get a better sense of my problems. I appreciate her holistic approach, and she never hesitated to answer my questions in detail. During my first session, Jess made sure I was comfortable and even walked me through a breathing exercise as she inserted the needles in specific points of my body. She has a very gentle touch, and I highly recommend her, especially for first-timers to acupuncture. But that gentle touch is matched with her rich knowledge in the field because I felt the power of the session almost immediately. After the session, Jess didn't just pull out the needles and walk away. She took notice of my body's reactions to the needles and shared her expertise of the reactions with me. My grandmother had been telling me for years to go get acupuncture for my horrible allergies/sinuses (my house needs to have a tissue box every 5 feet and I take medication every day so that I can function like a normal human being... who sneezes and blows her nose about every hour for the day). Acupuncture Together has been terrific for me. As a nail tech, I spend my days hunched over and performing tiny, repetitive motions with my hands. I assumed discomfort was just something I'd have to tough out in order to do what I love. I was wrong! I went in for a weird pain in my left arm. Justine was fairly nice, the room was relaxing. I wasn't really a fan of the area, but the Bus down Mass Ave ran pretty often. Came out not really impressed with acupuncture as I have needle bruises all up my right arm where the needles were from two weeks ago thus far. I am not exaggerating... this practice literally saved me and my family. I had terrible hand pain for which traditional medicine offered no explanation and no relief. I have been controlling it through acupuncture for a year and a half now and am now able to work as a result. They help me treat a number of other things as well: I have been able to eliminate various medications because of these treatments. I randomly saw a flyer at Diesel Cafe for this place & I figured why not, I had only tried acupuncture twice before. Well this place is great. It's very neat, clean & organized, which I always think is representative of who you are working with. In minutes I could breathe easier (allergy issues) & after I got home, (I was getting tired) & ending up sleeping pretty peacefully which doesn't happen very often. I also find it great that Justine has a sliding scale for payment- no questions asked- which I think is also a great thing to do. The only thing I found to be uncomfortable is sitting still, I am no good at that. I wish I could be more of a relaxed person in order to take a nap or something while in the lounge chair. read more

Acupuncture Together is a real gem. I discovered it through a friend a couple of years ago when I was dealing with a persistent cough that had lasted for a month after I came down with a cold. Various cough medicines and other prescriptions from my doctor didn't provide much help, but Justine DID! After getting both an acupuncture treatment and a course of herbs that she prepared for me (which you can dissolve in hot water), I was already feeling much better the next day... and my cough was completely gone in 3 days! I decided to give acupuncture a try for my migraines. I knew I'd have to go several times so I looked for a Community acupuncturist. Payment is on a sliding fee scale so it can be affordable. I actually liked being in the same room with other people. I have now been going for a couple of years and I find it to be a wonderful tool I use for dealing with my migraines. I also find it to be very relaxing and find myself going on days that I don't have a migraine. Justine and Andrew both are wonderful. I came to Acupuncture Together originally because I had a really bad case of tinnitis (ear whooshing, pressure, and pulsing if you haven't been so lucky.) It had been developing for a few weeks, and was getting steadily worse, to where the symptoms bothered me all day long. I had 3 treatments with them. I bought Groupon deal since I had been curious of acupuncture. I had a fair experience at the first visit, the second visit was OK, but the third one was pretty bad. This girl put a needle on my right hand, pinky area, and put more needles on other spots, then go back to the pinky one and pushed more. It hurt badly enough for me to go "Aaah!". It didn't hurt as long as I stay still, but she put a button to push when I'm ready to leave, and it hurt so much when I pushed the button. The pain didn't go away so I talked to a person at the front desk. He told me to call if it bothers after 24 hours. I called next day, explained that I'm still in pain. The girl said "it's common, bruise can happen, put arnica gel and let it heal, needles are so small it can't hurt anything." She kept repeating this like a parrot, and never apologized. I'm not her patience, I am a customer, and I am in pain. She said I could call if it still hurst after 24 hours. My husband who is a MD looked at my hand and said it probably hurt tendons or ligaments, but those heals eventually. I believe he is right, it sure will heal cuz I'm healthy. There isn't much they can do at this point. They are not doctors. I decided not to call them to waste my time. They are not going to apologize or try to make me feel better. I think this place is ok if you just want a nap. Needles won't hurt you if you have enough muscle or fat. Hands can be very sensitive and it is very painful when something goes wrong, and hard to rest because we all use hands daily. I assume treatments and results varies with WHO you get. I also know any types of procedure risk pain and side effects. Acupuncture is medically proven for temporary pain relief, but also proven that it doesn't cure chronic pain. (btw this place only do where your skin shows. arms, legs, heads, neck.... not back or torso... is that how acupuncture works?) "Needles are very small it can't hurt anything", what a great excuse. New to the area and was in need of a new acupuncturist. Have probably had 40-50 treatments in various private acupuncturist's offices over the last 5 years ($85 each) so I had my doubts about what could be accomplished in the community setting. Those doubts were quickly erased when I entered the very clean office and had a great consult and first treatment. I have had about 8 visits in the last 2 weeks to treat hormonal migraines. I bought a Groupon to try this place out, and I really liked it. I was (and am!) still skeptical of the whole acupuncture experience. I went in with the hope of relieving/managing stress related to day-to-day stuff. In my 3 treatments, they placed the needles generally in the same place each time, and it was pretty painless. I went in with high expectations that all my stress would disappear. Did that happen? No, not so much. I want to say that the acupuncture worked, but I really can't tell if I'm just hoping that it worked. Either way, i really enjoyed the experience at Acupuncture Together, even if the results were not miraculous or sudden. Maybe with more treatments I would know for sure that it does work. In any case, the environment there is super lovely and calming, and all the acupuncturists seem to really know what they're doing and care about their clients a great deal. There's a lot good to say about AT, and nothing bad. Everyone there is VERY friendly, warm compassionate AND qualified, but Katie is fantastic. I'm not sure what it is that makes her my favorite. Maybe it is the "ninja-like" precision of her needling that exudes confidence in her skill, combined with a gentle touch that makes your problems feel heard. Whatever it is, if conventional medicine has failed you or you are fed up with being turned away or having prescription bottles hurled at you, just try it. Also know that it can take weeks to feel change, it has been almost 8 for me now and just starting to feel better. I came in 2011 and didn't stick with it, so glad I returned. I look forward to sessions now as they are my only time of the week to completely de-stress and focus on healing. I could go on forever, but just try it and see for yourself. If I had it my way, these individuals would make more than MD's-a lot more. The fact that these people spend all day every day helping others, and at a "community" price, making it available to all, makes them heroes in my eyes, and I only hope they treat themselves with the same care they do their patients, b/c god knows they deserve it. read more

Just came home from some work from Andrew at Acupuncture Together- he was so personable and friendly- really listened to me- after he worked on me and left me to relax, I noticed his reverence for an older woman by taking her shoes off. She was so clearly happy - but that she blew him a kiss. What a lovely man! I recently started going to Acupuncture Together a little over a month ago and I have to say it has been a wonderful experience. Even from the first appointment, every session has left me feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated. The nice thing about Acupuncture Together is the atmosphere. I was a little nervous about trying community acupuncture. I had only tried acupuncture for the first time a few months ago and didn't know what to expect. I've found every experience at Acupuncture Together just delightful. It was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. The room had perfect lighting and ambiance, and really comfortable recliners. I may have actually fallen asleep for a while. I was having issues with my back and wrist. Alison treated me, and within 2 visits the pain had subsided. If you NEED acupuncture and cannot afford the cost of treatment... you can feel safe and comfortable here. I absolutely love this place and the concept. Though I have to be honest, before I went for services I was a little nervous... I didn't love the idea of sharing a room for treatment and sometimes I still don't like sharing my symptoms if others are in the room. Not just for HIPPA purposes but because I know they are trying to relax too and focus on their healing so I try to keep my answers to a minimum when we are in the community room. But they have earned my trust and respect. It is a great operation. The facility is beautiful, clean, bright and the acupuncturists are awesome and really do care about your particular issues and concerns. I have worked with Justine and Allison and each session has been different because they have tailored the treatment to adjust with me, as I adjust, grow, balance and heal. I never schedule my appointments anymore because my schedule is so crazy (I own a business) and I get frequent migraines so I just never know if I can make them, but they always fit me in without an issue. The concept is awesome especially when you have some serious issues that you need addressed and can't afford to spend money on a whole treatment as frequently as necessary. They have helped me and my friend overcome some major obstacles and I am just so grateful for their presence in the community!!! The one star off... is just because of sharing info in the community room. I know there is such a high volume, but even offering to speak in the office about results, new or re-occuring symptoms would make a huge difference for some. It may also make for a more detailed treatment as some clients may disclose more helpful information to the provider in a private area. (Whether it's a privacy issue or an awareness and respect of others in the room and their need to relax) I have gotten over this concern and you probably will too after a few sessions... but it's just so you guys would know ahead of time. So I went to the free Open House this morning, and had a great experience. Perhaps, however, I should preface this review with the story of my last acupuncturist. I go to a yoga studio that shares its building with different people, including an acupuncturist. For convenience, I figured I'd try their acupuncturist to see if I could get any help with the TMJ that's been plaguing me since childhood. The first time I went, the dude rigged up this giant wooden contraption and tubing right next to my face, and then sent smoke (presumably moxa, though I'm not quite convinced it wasn't "something else" considering how crazy high I felt afterwards) through it. He only ever kept needles in for about three seconds before pulling them out. It was very fast - he put them in, held them there, and pulled them out. Then sometimes he would burn stuff on my face. The last time I went, I had made the appointment for 5:00 because I had a yoga class at 6, and he said that'd be plenty of time. He didn't call me in until 5:40, at which point I told him it was too late, and yet he convinced me to go in anyways for an abbreviated (and cheaper) session. The whole thing was not very pleasant, I didn't really get much in the way of results, and it was crazy expensive. I couldn't afford to go as much as I should have been going, but I wasn't sure I wanted to go back anyways, so I started looking for a new acupuncturist. And then I saw the event listing on Yelp for Acupuncture Together's Grand Opening! What a difference. While I initially thought I might be slightly uncomfortable in a room with many other people during the treatment, it wasn't uncomfortable at all. As soon as I walked into the office, Justine's family greeted me and were all super nice and helpful. I went into the community room and grabbed a comfy chair, and Justine talked to me a bit about my issues and then put the needles in and left me to relax. It was a calming experience and much different from my previous trips to the acupuncturist. I enjoyed it a lot, and I made an appointment to return next week.
