I had a terrible experience with Shiva Rouhani a couple of years ago that I am only now comfortable talking about. I went to her for treatment a few times for neck, shoulder pain, and migraines. Her methods were unusual--placing needles at the top of my skull for neck pain--but effective enough that I returned, and she accepted my insurance. On my last visit, she asked about my mental health. I didn't think this was unusual, as I have been asked if I experience any feelings of depression by acupuncturists in the past, but it was always in a holistic sense, and I wasn't ever pressed for details. Shiva asked about details. I informed her that I was actively in treatment for depression with mental health professionals, which typically ends the conversation there because that's all an acupuncturist needs to know. Shiva pressed me for details about my depression, coping mechanisms, social history, and more, before proceeding to invalidate my difficulties and my treatment plan and provide advice on how I *should* be treating mental health issues. This alone is completely outside the bounds of proprietary for a medical professional to advise a patient on the treatment of an illness they do not have a license to assess and treat. To invalidate someone's progress in therapy and suggest they start going to bars instead is not only improper, but it really demonstrates a complete lack of knowledge and awareness of the impact of mental illness. That's seriously dangerous, particularly if you dissuade a person with unaddressed suicidal ideation from seeking proper psychiatric support. Once the needles were in and Shiva left the room, I realized exactly how thin the walls were because I could hear every word of her conversation with the receptionist. Meaning the receptionist heard every word of my deeply private conversation, which was not actually private at all. I was left alone the rest of the session, and I left in tears and never returned. It took me a year to feel comfortable enough to seek out a new acupuncturist to help me with my chronic pain. For anyone considering Shiva Rouhani as your acupuncturist, please consider finding someone else with an appropriate set of professional boundaries. read more

I would recommend this practice. I had a positive experience here. I went twice a month for a few months (as much as my insurance would cover). They take Medi-Cal which is great. I don't think I went enough for it to really help me. But I think the doctor knows her stuff and she's kind. Was always easy to schedule an appt. For most body parts you barely feel the needles, but due to my anxiety/fear I think the process was more stress than it was worth. I think I would be a better candidate for accupressure. read more

I highly recommend this Acupuncture clinic. My mother was having severe headaches because her arthritis, she also had insomnia issues. I have been suffering from migraines and headaches for about 10 years now. After numerous treatments and so many pills I was referred to acupuncture from my neurologist. I chose this location solely by chance and I am so happy with the happy coincidence. I have completed about 4 sessions with Shiva in the last month or so and went from having a headache everyday to nothing that couldn't be controlled. The pressure in my head that was constant is completely gone. Every visit she sits down with you and asks exactly how your pain has been and what is troubling you that could trigger stress or a headache. She treated me solely for headaches in the beginning but after the episodes became less and less frequent we started focusing on ways to get me off of the pills I had been taking for 10 years! She has Chinese herbs that she uses to help supplement her treatment. She recommended I start taking an adrenal complex to help with anxiety that pokes it head into my life more often than needed. It has helped so much. She has also made a blend of powder I am to drink as hot tea to help with my acid reflex that I've had pretty much all my life. The pills I had been taking for 10 years could eventually cause kidney problems so we spoke about it and decided to try to ween me off of them. She has also started to treat me for my allergies and my leg swelling. My legs have retained water making me a bit nervous about the kidney damage that could be happening. What really blew me away was her attention to your needs. Her knowledge is vast! She knew exactly the situation I was going through with my damaged tummy and my head. She is seriously a miracle worker and I have been recommending her to everyone I could. She also takes many forms of insurance so you don't pay much out of pocket other than a co pay for treatment that seriously changes your life. Highly recommend this place. I made an appointment but walk in's are welcome. I filled out the forms and proceeded to explain my troubled areas. After about 4 needles to my head (to start with) the pain that I have felt for the past 12 years subsided!!! I am not sure how many needles I had and do not really care. Ok so let me start by saying I have not been seen as a patient. The reason for my review is for that reason weird you may think yes maybe but not really. I give them 2 stars because when I walked in there Saturday May 5th the receptionist was very nice and seemed helpful. She took down my insurance info to inquire about my benefits and said she would call me Wednesday. I walked out feeling pretty accomplished for whatever reason, guess I thought I found myself a treatment for my hands and weight. 2 weeks passed didn't hear back. I called the office Dr answered and said they were closed and they would call me back the following week. They close Monday I think Thursdays, Fridays and Sunday of course. What I really liked that they open Saturdays. Anyway needless to say I have not heard back from them, so disappointing because their reviews are good. Terrible Experienced. 1 needle she poke on my lower back was really hurt and I got nervous. Couldn't rest because their talking very loud. Then when she came back she said, I am done to my session and take off my cups and needle then step out. Slowly, I get up and realized she forgot some cups and needle on my lower back. I wait, when she came back "I told her there's cups and needle left behind me". I still have 2 more session left , which I have paid this $89 or more. I won't risk it. If you Are sensitive in needle this is not a place for you. I was late 35 mins. I called before I was going to be late, phone was busy, so I show up. It was pretty traffic in their location and I have a hard time because the freeway I'm going to exit was blocked so I have to find another exit.I'm very surprise she put the cups & needle the same time. Five years ago, I was in a terrible car accident. A drunk driver slammed into me when I was coming home from the night shift. After lots of physical therapy, I was able to recover, but I'm often in pain. I've had to take prescription painkillers for years. But the cost kept rising and they never made my pain go away, they just covered it up. I was tired of going through life in a fog so I looked into acupuncture as a possible solution. I found Acu Wellness based on recommendations and decided to schedule an appointment to see if their treatments could help me. After a few months of this, I no longer need my pain meds and I feel like myself once again. The acupuncturists and the entire staff are absolutely lovely to deal with. Unlike doctors' offices, they don't treat you like cattle and I love that I can manage my pain effectively without being a zombie.
