This location is pretty much your typical DMV. Clerical drones working a tiring, repetitive, thankless job and probably for short money. So considering the dreary days these folks have to endure I'm inclined to give a high rating just for showing up to work every day. I was stunned at how many people they process every hour. There is a smaller, "express" DMV just a mile or so away. Almost every client I saw was very young so don't know what's going on in Boise. Their processes are highly automated and reasonably efficient. They get you in and out fairly quickly and with a minimum of fuss. The staff are clearly not happy people but I'd chalk that up more to their environment than anything else. Once they punch out and hit the bar with friends they could well be the life of the party. The Ada County Sheriff has done a very good job building an efficient operation so kudos and five starts for that. read more

I went in to the DMV for a concealed weapons address change and I had an 11 o'clock appointment. I scan my QR code and get my ticket at 11:56 and immediately my number is called to station 10. I get to the window and the dudes on the damn phone and he stays on the phone for 7 minutes (11:56-11:03). This might seem petty to some, but I had an appointment, so I'm expecting that if he calls me up early for my appointment, he shouldn't be on the phone. The phone call he was on he was setting an appointment for another person as I heard almost the entire call. I asked for a manager and some dude comes out stating that the calls are usually only about two minutes so he thought he had time blah blah blah and didn't give a shit. This is the first time that I've ever had a problem at this DMV since they started doing appointment only bullshit. Say what you want about the DMV but it's not the same old DMV. The Ada county sheriffs department have taken several steps to reduce the chaos and ensure that the folks in the DMV are there for the right reasons and are prepared. Prior to COVID-19, the DMV was hell on earth. An unforgiving fiery pit of misery. There were so many people trying to get their title registered, teenagers trying to get their drivers licenses. Out of Staters getting a new license and everything else. Many times, the computer systems would crash and the wait times were excruciatingly long. Add to that there was very low cell reception. After the lockdown, the DMV reopened but only through appointments only. The process was for all incoming DMV customers to schedule an appointment online and then bring their email with the QR Code along with any supporting documentation needed for the visit. This SOP, standard operating procedure, limits the amount of DMV customers and makes sure that they are fully prepared when their number is called by a DMV agent. The second step was to install two gatekeepers. The first gatekeeper asks the inbound DMV customer if they have an appointment If they do, they pass, if they don't, they are turned away. The second gatekeeper ensures that the inbound DMV customer has their QR code and it has to be scanned in order to receive a number to be called by the DMV agent. The QR code identifies the Inbound DMV customer and toutes them to the appropriate DMV agent when their number is called. The wait times have been drastically reduced and the overall anxiety of being in the DMV is non-existent. Well, except for those teenagers who want to pass the written tests. Don't dread the DMV just make sure you create an online appointment, submit your paperwork like Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc or your trip to the DMV will be very short lived. read more

This place is so time consuming. I had to make 4 diffrent appointments for the same thing to take a test for my Cdl. Every single time I went to my appointment, they were asking proof of residency. I ended up bringing my id my ssn card and same mail for proof of residency. They wouldn't let me take the test because the mail and my if wasent enough evidence. Everytime I come here I have to reschedule because the just won't take my proof. I have waisted over 2 weeks for this and I'm now waiting for my next appointment. Great experience getting our drivers licenses this week. I made an appointment about 3 weeks in advance for 7am on a Friday for my husband and I. We got in line around 6:50. They promptly opened at 7am and we checked in and were given numbers and helped instantly! They even helped both of us together at 1 window. We provided our information needed for the star card and then took the vision test and went back to the computers for the knowledge test. Once we were done with the test we went back to our window and finished the process! We were in an out in 45 minutes! No complaints here! read more

The only thing that dropped a star rating for me is the fact that they could use more driver's license centers or even consolidate the operations to have a 2nd drivers license center; I showed up at 6:45 AM and avoided most of the line with only 7 people in front of me, which stretched to the end of the building (about 1.5 football fields) by the time it opened at 7:30, while the division responsible for registrations was practically empty and I was called to the window in less than 3 minutes mid-day... I was personally in and out taking the written test and applying for a STAR license in less than an hour for my first visit, but I know those that came later might be in for a longer wait. However, coming from a state where the DMV is often rushed and hurried with rude staff, Destiny was patient, friendly and attentive... Also when one document wasn't up to par for the STAR ID (I travel for work, and I also do legal translations on the side and need access to USCIS buildings, so this is important for me), she allowed me to put the application on hold, get another approved document, then come back directly to her without waiting (which this part only took less than 10 minutes), when anyone else would've told me to just get the non-compliant license for now and start over! I have seen many DMV's in other states, some 50 times bigger but the people that work at this small location should be ashamed how disrespectful they really are. They are rude and unprofessional ! There is no need for any of them to talk down on people. I don't know what their story is but I am sick to my stomach when I have to go to this location. I hope the mayor and governor know how this people treat us. DMV in Nevada and California are better then this. Id rather stay in line for 2 hours then someone dealing with someone disrespectful! Can you give a negative star for a rating? If I could I would for the CF called the Driver's License office for Idaho. This place used to run smoothly, a few years ago, but not now. To get a renewal can end up Wasting s better part of your day. Hundreds of people sitting around waiting for their numbers to be called. No one really goes to the DMV because they want to, unless you're getting your drivers license for the first time. You pretty much go here because you have to. This is the location for getting new drivers license for the Treasure Valley so if you drive you're probably going to have to come here sooner or later. There is not much focus on customer service because they know that you have to come here. There's also lots of people here because it serves so many cities. Starting October 2021 you will need to get a star card if you want to enter government buildings. You'll have to make a appointment online and then you come in 10 minutes before your appointment. You check in with the employee at the door and give your last name. Then you go to the next station where you scan your QR code and get a ticket with a number on it. Then you sit in an open chair or stand on a circle. The chairs and circles are 6 feet apart for social distancing (also masks are required at this time). Then you wait 10 to 20 minutes approximately for your number to be called and then go to the corresponding window that the automated announcement says. If you are getting your star card drivers license you'll need to show your drivers license, passport or birth certificate, also your Social Security card or W-2 form, and lastly two utility bills for two separate utilities. The utility bills are a little tricky in that they both have to have the same address on them and they have to have your first and last name on both of them. Also cell phone bills do not count even if they have your address on them. After you show all the supporting documents you will have to pass an eye exam. There is no poster on the wall anymore you look into a electronic device that's right there on the counter. The letters are kind of hard to see and they will test both of your eyes by turning off one side (especially if they notice you closing one eye lol). If you use glasses to pass the test it will say glasses required on your license. Next they will take your picture. Then they ask you if you want to be an organ donor. Then you'll have to sign that you are a legal citizen of the United States and that you're not a sex offender. Then you have the option of paying $40 for a four year license or $55 for an eight year license (if you are 60 or younger). Then they print out a paper that is your temporary license and your license card will come in the mail 2 to 3 weeks later. read more

It's the DMV-- I can't give it 4 stars when Yelp labels 4 stars as "Yay! I'm a fan" and I cant pretend to be. I don't know anyone, would love for you to tell me I am wrong, that say's they can't wait to go to the DMV! Ok, maybe if you're a teen getting your first drivers licence, but I am not a fan. I can't rate it 2 stars, because in all reality I haven't had better. A-OK at 3 stars it is! I will say though, they are a lot quicker than California's DMV's. The wait time for registering your car is under 5 minutes, but the drivers licences can be a wait-- all which is to be expected at the DMV. What caught me off guard was the workers-- you can genuinely tell they hate their job. In between customers I would see workers take deep breaths, look at the ceiling and sigh when people approached. I can't blame them though... it's the DMV. The teller that I had didn't crack a smile or tell me happy birthday! The lady next to her, was the nicest person in there and actually made small talk with her person renewing their licence on their birthday and said "Happy Birthday, glad you're spending it with me". This is my favorite DMV in the country. I am from Utah, but my boyfriend is from Boise. When he told me he needed to go to the DMV, my first reaction was "oh no honey, not the DMV", but oh boy how wrong I was. The Ada county DMV is extremely efficient, our wait time was about 3 hours . The environment is super friendly, I felt at home. Smelled like cigarettes and other fancy scent candles. The vibrant colors of the walls transmitted life to me, that greenish gray that makes you feel alive, and the water stains in the ceiling giving a vintage style. When it was our turn, we were so excited that people started to clap and cheer. I've never been married, but I feel that's how it feels. Thank you DMV for so much. read more

I am usually in their office 1-2 times a week. The usual wait time is usually 30 minutes to 2 hours. It really depends on when you go and what time. They could really use a 2nd location to relieve the congestion provide faster service. As far as customer service its hit and miss depending on what clerk you get. I'd say most of the time they are friendly there are a few rude ones. General rule bring everything you need they don't make exceptions. If you get one of the friendly ones if you forget something they will allow you to come back the same day and skip the line come right back to their counter. read more

Went to the DMV on Friday, August 24th.....I left work early to go home, collect my soon-to-be driver and apply for his driver's permit. We got there at 4:00 pm, only to be turned away, due to the long lines. I was told to come back another day and that mornings are better....I'm supposed to take my kid out of school???
