So I don't understand why people don't like government offices. This would make most people very happy. Walked in this morning to the self-service kiosk push the button and is soon as my ticket came out it called my name and I got the extreme pleasure of having James help me again. Last time I was in a few months ago he help me with an out-of-state title transfer and was outstanding in suggestions and tips on how to make the process smooth and easy. Today was noDifferent. I walked in he greeted me with a smile I told him he would help me last time he thanked me for coming in again within five minutes our transaction was done he help do some changes to the name on the title and we were out the door. Great service as always from a great location a hidden gem in Boise Ada County

Moving from California to Idaho meant I finally had to register my car here before my out-of-state…read moreregistration expired at the end of the month. I called the Franklin office to find out what I needed, and the woman who answered was incredibly pleasant and helpful. She explained that because I'm still making payments on my vehicle, I could only register it for one year instead of two (if you own your vehicle outright, you can register it for up to two years). She also let me know I'd need to bring my current registration, driver's license, and the actual vehicle for a VIN inspection. She suggested making an appointment online before coming in. I figured I'd be waiting several days for an appointment, but to my surprise, I logged onto the website around 2:00 p.m. and was able to book a 3:00 p.m. appointment that same day! Since I wanted to stop by Trader Joe's afterward, the Meridian location made perfect sense. I arrived just a few minutes after 3:00 p.m. The office is tucked away in a corner next to a kids store, so I was a little confused at first, but thankfully I rely on my GPS for everything. Once inside, I scanned the QR code from my appointment at the welcome kiosk, received my number, and found a seat among about 20-30 people in the waiting area. I had barely been sitting for a minute before my number was called. I honestly thought, "Today must be my lucky day!" Travis helped me with my registration from start to finish, and he was fantastic. He explained everything clearly, answered all of my questions, and even helped me with my personalized license plates. The plate combination I originally wanted wasn't available, so he suggested another option that I actually like even more. Now I can't wait for my new plates to arrive! This was my very first DMV experience in Idaho, and it couldn't have gone more smoothly. The office was clean, the process was quick and organized, and Travis provided outstanding customer service. If every DMV experience were like this, no one would dread going! Welcome to Idaho, indeed!

We were at the DMV for title updates three times this past week, and while the popular perception is that Flash from Zootopia is running the place, that's not right. Every staff member was polite, fast, and courteous. Darryl attended to us on the last visit and was very patient with us as we missed a signature on the title document. I also liked how some of the booths were personalized. One booth had multiple sloths. Here are some tips. Book online and save time Show up about 10 mins early Enter your booking ID from your email and get your ticket. You may be called immediately Have the right people attending. If your name is not on the title, whether it's the updated one or the new one, nothing can be done. There is a credit/debit card fee of 2% or something, but there is an ATM in the lobby. Either pay the 2% fee or bring cash or a check. Considering my own experiences with the DMVs in other states, we're very fortunate to have convenient DMV locations with personable folks working there.

The staff was extremely friendly, respectful, and helpful throughout the entire process. Everything was well-organized and moved faster than we expected. Important note for those moving from out of state (especially California): This office only helps with driver licenses and ID cards. They do not process vehicle registrations. For that, you'll need to go to: Ada County DMV Meridian Branch, 1769 N Lakes Pl #100, Meridian, ID 83646 Also, if you're moving from California (and possibly other states), be aware that you must take a written knowledge test on the computer, even if you've been driving for decades with a clean record. No behind-the-wheel test is required, but the written test is mandatory. So be prepared and study beforehand! Overall, this office made what could have been a stressful task feel simple and welcoming. A big thanks to the team for making our transition to Idaho so smooth.

So considering the dreary days these folks have to endure I'm inclined to give a high rating just for showing up to work every day. I was stunned at how many people they process every hour. There is a smaller, "express" DMV just a mile or so away. Almost every client I saw was very young so don't know what's going on in Boise. Their processes are highly automated and reasonably efficient. They get you in and out fairly quickly and with a minimum of fuss. The staff are clearly not happy people but I'd chalk that up more to their environment than anything else. Once they punch out and hit the bar with friends they could well be the life of the party. The Ada County Sheriff has done a very good job building an efficient operation so kudos and five starts for that.
