The only downside is that while shopping for mortgages, I had stated I wanted a mortgage with no escrow (I'd rather manage my money myself and keep the money from the interest myself). John said that was possible, but only for a fee (a percent of the loan). Unfortunately it seems that escrows are built into the underwriting itself, so not much we could really do to get around the fee. Just know that if you don't want to escrow.
