Small town independent grocer. Prices are generally much higher than at the chain stores. Fair selection of products. Not a good place for regular grocery shopping (unless you don't care about costs or produce freshness) but it's ok and convenient for a quick stop. I can't speak to the meat situation since I don't usually buy it. Most people are friendly. One cashier whose been there for some time used to lecture me on how masks and immunizations are a conspiracy, etc. I was completely turned off and avoided the store for a long time. Don't buy meat there. My refrigerator works fine. Temperature is correct. Two minutes from my house. Consistently meat goes bad before use by date. Haven't bought chicken there in years because of this problem. Very convenient, slightly higher prices, but I am ok with that. Check the dates on everything there. What a shame. I am a year round shopper at Adam's in Deep River. I have to say that I never buy the hamburger. It looks good on the outside but inside is always brown and rotten. Inflation is driving prices everywhere yet Adam's still offers great sale prices. I'd say 3 stars is about right. They have pretty good meat sales for a small town grocery store. The service is friendly and they have the majority of stuff a larger grocery store would carry. But if the item is not sale be prepared to fork over your money. In a weird way, it would be a better store if the Walmart in old saybrook was a super Walmart, because I would buy more stuff there and just stick with the meats at adams. read more

GM above doesn't know what he's talking about. Sara is the best cashier they have, I've always found her personable and professional. They have everything you need, including sushi, at good prices. I refuse to use Stop and Shop - it's a huge ripoff. Their 10 for $10 deals are great, the meat counter is pretty good. Haven't really used the new bakery yet. Good produce, good deli counter. Wish the parking was a little better, or that they at least re-ordered it since moving into the entire complex. There are handicap spaces all over the place. read more

Generally all items are higher priced, (which adds up) so I tend to skip them for my full two week grocery shopping trips, but, they are a really great convenience grocery for those forgotten items or if you change dinner plans at the last minute. I was here today picking up a few grocery. Some of the staffs here are friendly, mainly the older women cashier. But the younger middles aged females, are slow at checking out. If only I cared to glance their name tags. But theyre very rude and unprofessional, the lady today at cashier number 2, was trying to be rude for no reason, clearly she was chatting up Storm with the older white woman in front of me. One glance, she never looked up again at me. I didn't noticed till the very last minute, I did cash back and she insisted I have her 10 dollar bill. the store all in all is good, the only part I have a problem with is the deli manager! she is very rude, doesn't say hi or even smile! been multiple times and I always have the same problem, employees leave because of her. never going again, change the manager no need for her rudeness and attitude! the meat department, produce, and everything else is great the deli department has so many issues. read more

If you are going to change your hours, you should update your website as well as commonly used places where customers may check store hours such as Yelp. I understand your hours may be shorter because of winter hours, but even a small mom and pop shop knows that keeping up-to-date is important. It only takes three minutes to update a website. A small town grocery store that has a good selection of low-carb deserts. Good prices on meats, when on sale. On the not so good side, the butcher's look at the cute girls like they are pieces of meat. Even for a guy its uncomfortable. On my latest trip it was the worst experience. One of the managers told some old people to move so he could continue scanning freezer items. Sure the old couple were taking there time but have some respect, maybe even ask if you could help them. I just picked up my son's birthday cake & it was amaaaaazing! The most beautiful sheet cake. The baker is an artist. I asked for her to throw some hammers and nails on it for a carpenter themed birthday and she "nailed it!" Seriously was more excited about this cake than my own wedding cake. We have been happily buying our groceries at Adams for eighteen years and are so glad it is not just another standard massive chain grocery store. We have found shopping at Adams to consistently be a pleasant positive experience fitting into Deep River's small town friendly neighborhood personality. The employees we have encountered have been helpful and respectful and there has always been someone available to help us find any item we are looking for. Long lines at the register have been rare. This grocery store is the best of both worlds: small town charm + chain prices/product availability. They carry almost everything I need and the staff is more attentive than any other grocery store in the area. A special shout to the Floral department... The florist has an incredible eye for original arrangements (the exact opposite of the cookie-cutter stuff you'd see at most shops nowadays). If you want a unique and lovely arrangement put together with heart, it'd be hard to beat the understated floral section at Adams. read more
