Dinner tray was placed out of reach of patient. Patient called for assistance. After an hour, CNA came into room and kicked the tray closer to patient and left. Patient was unable to lift the lid off of the tray or open ensure bottle. Patient food not minced/puréed as per dysphasia diet although being labeled as minced and moist/pureed. Patient was stripped and sponge bathed with door open and in view of others passing by in hallway. In general, it seemed understaffed. PT/OT services were good and specialists respected patient's dignity. CNAs overall lack training, empathy, and common sense.

There are a few assistants that were more attentive but overall my husband was frustrated with the care. The communication is the worst. No one seems to talk to each other. Therapy and case management seem to not communicate about the patient's progress. I on numerous occasions left messages and waited 2 or 3 days for a call back from case management. Once I was verbal it seemed like they were more attentive. Which is ridiculous. We had a change in insurance and were pretty much thrown out. I requested help bringing my husband home and response was insurance won't cover. Well if they would have advocated for my husband it would have been approved. Upon coming home from the facility I had to call our local fire to send an ambulance to bring my husband from the car into our home. That's not medically necessary? Please!! I know social workers who said that is ridiculous they could have done more. I had to.set up my husbands transportation to and from dialysis. Because of the lack of communication I don't have transportation for him one day to treatment This should have been done before we left or were discharged. I was told this was usually done upon being admitted. If so why was my husbands not done? The facility is clean and I do agree it a lot better as far as that is concerned. While my husband was there he was left on the toilet with the door open and put on the bed pan with the curtain open. Seriously? How about patient's privacy? I had to pull the curtain numerous times to.allow my husbands privacy. The food is horrible. And though we discussed with the dietitian about his likes he never received foods of his liking. Overall I will never recommend or send my husband there again. I will be contacting his insurance to inform them of the experience we had with Beaumont. I had to select a star if I could select none I would.

They did not introduce our family member to the facility on arrival nor instruct us on the plan of care despite our presence for the first four hours of admission. We have also been present for at least this amount of time daily. Our family member does well with routine and help at home and is obviously now out of her element. The facility has chosen not to acknowledge our concerns. They state they do not have to have support person present to teach our family member who has no short term memory. They have refused to coordinate with the family for any meeting, and rather we get piece meal information from a different person each time. Our goal is to have a clear picture and one delegate who receives information on our family member. Please think about this review. I'm not writing from a place of malice but rather of extreme concern for those people requiring family support.

I even double checked the Nursing Home Compare CMS website and saw they received 5 stars, but there is no way Knollwood deserves 5 stars. The rooms are nice and clean, but the actual care was not so great. My father has Parkinsons (and just had back surgery) and requires a pretty strict schedule for his meds every 3 hours or he "freezes" and starts having difficulty thinking and speaking. We noticed that he was getting his meds at odd hours/frequencies and when inquired learned that they have a +/- 1 hour around med schedules. I understand this is the law and they are covered by this, but when the family is telling you how important it is to be more timely, you need to listen. Instead, we were told that they have 20 patients to deliver meds to and are doing the best they can and that they are covered by the law. Also, when my father and his roommate would call for assistance to go to the bathroom (both were on full assist/fall risks) they took a long time to come and sometimes never...even after ringing the bell 3+ times. Unfortunately, this resulted in a few changes of wet clothes and linens...let alone the embarrassment. It is so sad to see grown men pleading for help because they are ready to bust a gut. Between my mom and I, we were onsite there for 8-10 hours a day and the doctor never once came into meet with us, until I caught her in the hall running to another meeting. Also, I did go to the Nursing Director with my concerns, especially about the meds, and it did get better, but My Dad could also hear the "chatter" about my doing this. The PT and OT were great! John and Maycon were great and a few of the aides. My Dad will require nursing home again and it will not be Knollwood.

They finally moved me to their next door mental health unit only to arrive and have 3 different roommates, one of which arrived around 2am and proceeded to snore and talk in their sleep, LOUDLY. Upon contacting The Haven, my husband called and was told they WERE in-network with our insurance and when I asked to leave early, I was told insurance would pay nothing due to my leaving AMA(Against Medical Advice) so I stayed. Then, received a bill totally over $100k, with over $6k/night!! I highly DO NOT recommend this racket of a facility. Trust me, save yourself the time, money, and GRIEF that'll end up exacerbating your already acquired mental health struggles. DON'T DO IT TO YOURSELF!

Then let's move towards the therapy itself - which is group therapy all day and no psychiatrist or psychologist on staff. If you want an Aleve for your period, they won't give you that at all. If they push genetic testing on you, advertise it heavily as one of their main aspects of the center, say it will be $330, and then charge you afterwards for $5,500 - then you have done deceptive billing practices! Let's move onto "vegan" friendly diet. No offerings here. Avoid. Lastly, they put you under the assumption that they have novelty offerings like EDMR and reiki. Nope. Not at all. None of that is available. It's 6 hours of group therapy a day - that's it. Once a week you meet with your therapist and it's not even an hour - it's for 15 minutes. If you express dissatisfaction of their center and want to leave their VOLUNTARY resident, they threaten you with AMA (against medical advice), give no reasons as to why or how, and then refuse to help with aftercare planning. Actually, they tell you your aftercare is covered by insurance only for it not to be. This place is running a sophisticated scam on people.
