HBM has inpatient and outpatient programs, both of which are good, but please take negative reviews of HBM with a grain of salt as most are commenting on the inpatient program only and as people are often sent to inpatient when they don't want to go so it can feel like a loss of freedom, when really it's about taking all responsibilities away so you can focus on yourself. The building facilities are new and clean, the cafeteria could be better but isn't terrible. Everything else aside the staff is great and they really care, as rough as it is to be inpatient and as frustrating as it is to be there day after day I felt like the staff really cared and made an effort. Most times other patients were upset it was due to the necessary rules of the place. The staff are openly supportive of each other, waving to each other or giving each other a supportive hug when they come back to work after being away; that shows a real team who really cares. Whatever might be said about the inpatient experience, their outpatient program is where they really shine; excellent clinicians, a safe and supportive place for group, and an environment that seeks to help and prepare you to return to your life. They have patience beyond the limits of most and their women's trauma program is superb. Group includes process, skills practice, expressive therapy, yoga, support dog visits, as well as a coffee bar, breakfast and lunch provided as well as transportation to HBM and home for any patient who needs it. Having done inpatient and outpatient I felt safe, truly seen, and cared for in my weeks there. read more

Actually horrendous. My mother has been there 24 hours after being transferred from the ED, and I can't even get a clinician to call me and understand why she is in this hellhole. I have talked to 5 different people. We had a referral to a different care facility and she ended up here - will only make things worst for her. BEWARE DONT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL So what does this hospital do I'll tell you cause I was there! When I first arrived at this hospital I was introduced to Dr.D I don't know his name cause it's to hard to pronounce. I went in and he did his evaluation on me then after that he asked me some question and I answered it and he just assumed I was lying he gave me a look with hi eyes wide open and said are you lying to me? I then said no why would I? Then I was put into a room with 2 other people another guy and girl, the girl went up right away and then I went into another room and did intake then sent back to the same room, the guy was then taking upstairs and I was in the room by myself I was questioned about some things and asked again are you lying? I then proceeded to start crying because first I was scared, nervous. I then was taken upstairs I was approached or spoken to not face to face but by intercom, wtf ! So then they the dr and nurse started questioning everything and I mean everything and then proceeded to be asked are you LYING? Wtf, for the duration of the time I was tormented being told I don't know how to shower, I don't know how to wipe my ass don't know how to brush my teeth but not face to face over the camera that was in not only the room but also in the bathroom but, it's probably taken out by now. Then every night I was then tormented by these people coming in the hall asking if there is some and so a patient here? Every night I went through this as well as when I got my night meds something was not right cause i never had any type of nightmares but I was there and started having nightmares. Then not only were they asking if I was there but they went by my maiden name as well as my first married name. I was being scared every day every night I was told to do things and I'm asking why am I doing this but they kept returning "WE ARE TRYING TO HELP YOU" by scaring me by telling me idont know how to wipe my ass don't know how to do anything. Then I had diarhea I was then told are you kidding me she did this in my bathroom, then also every night I mean every night this bitch would scream "I WANT HER OUT OF MY HOSPITAL" he the dr says i cant do that not only was my life at that time was a living hell when I was a patient, I will never never forget my stay there so if I were you looking into a hospital for yourself or a loved don't go to this hospital!!!! read more

I feel a lot of gratitude for the kind and caring staff and the support my loved one received here. Charlotte was the care manager and she was wonderful and she kept in communication with me during my daughter's stay and she and the staff had a calm, reassuring way of interacting that was a comfort to her. The goal of her stay was to deal with her challenges and work with her, map goals, navigate a care program and build a support network for the future after her stay was over. This place gave me nightmares and my mental health improved a bit but only because of the other kids there who were nice to me, the staff where not nice it was terrible. The care was horrendous because they treated us like we weren't people. The food there was terrible and you guys are lucky im nice enough to not report you to the FDA for that food, 2 kids got food poisoning there and they both passed out. There was a peaceful protest from the kids and the staff made everything worse and they injured the kids. One kid got hit in the head because he was thrown against the wall. Another kid got dragged to the other unit. They blatantly favored a kid because he was always throwing tantrums and they were not helping him at all because they were not trying to teach him that that was bad or whatever, he admitted it was all an act, he was 13 by the way. I was there for a week impatient, it was hard to get used to at first but the staff were very kind and understanding. The food was good and had limited options for other types of diets. I got good care from all the staff. they understood me and cared about my mentsl state at all times. read more

You people left my sister to almost be killed. You took away her prescriptions for high blood pressure, medicines that she needs to live and function and treated her like an addict when she was there for HELP. She cried for help, was called a c word, b-word, and I still won't forget seeing your receptionist sobbing when I was there for visiting hours. I am so glad I pulled my sister out of here, she's a 20 year old girl with PTSD and trauma, and the fact that she tried taking her life because your staff made her MISERABLE SHOWS there's a problem in your system. I can't wait to sue and file a court order against here. When you called me to tell me my sister almost committed suicide, your doctor was super rude and dismissive despite it being extremely SERIOUS. I have anxiety and depression, so hearing this and then having no opportunity to speak to no one else, I wasn't able to sleep. I get it your staff is overworked and exhausted, BUT YOU CHOSE TO WORK IN THIS FIELD. You should expect the challenges; if not, LEAVE. Abusing your patients, withholding their prescriptions that KEEP THEM ALIVE and pushing them to the point of wanting to commit suicide is absolutely unacceptable and I'm appalled this type of place exists. It makes me so sad to know this is part of our healthcare. For those considering coming here, PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. There are better places in Boston that will help. This place is a prison and will treat you like a monster or addict when you're not one. As an adolescent who stayed on their unit one this place sucks shit. This place is literally the definition of PTSD. For starters I would like to shout out my girl Kiki(sorry if I spelled your name wrong), she was very nice which hard come by in that hell. Also if your hygiene is like a coping skill for you zero out of ten do not recommend. It took me five days to get any of my hygiene stuff. And it took me two days to get my contacts. I'm like borderline blind so I was stumbling around for two days, and I got them after my mom started bawling that I couldnt see and social worker got them. I was there for two horrible weeks and that was the one time I saw my social worker. The pyschaitrist talks down to you and is very snarky, I think he barely passed med school. At the time I was dealing with severe depression, and that dumb retard gave me Prozac. If you know anything bout meds you should prozac is very very very old and isn't that affective compared to newer antidepressants. Oh and groups, on average you do ZERO a day, except if the staff is feeling good that day then we do the occasional one group. Also the food sucks, I'm really big on fruit, like fruit is just were it's at. I got fruit twice in those two weeks. I swear people were literally fighting over the fruit. If you like to fight I would recommend this place. I saw people flying through the air, then their calling a code yellow, next thing you know people are on the floor getting injected with who knows what. The only reason I was freed was because my parents threatened to get a lawyer because the hospital would not tell them what "Therapy and help" I was getting. On my last day a girl was having a hard time and per usual they just resorted to restraining her, we all had to go to our rooms and you could just hear her screaming for help. When we could come out her white shirt was soaked with blood and there was a big puddle of blood on the floor, they had call up a janitor to clean it up. This just put me in a dissociative state of shock. And those fucking nurses, what did they say to that poor girl who had just been traumatized, "honey change your shirt you look like something out of a horror movie". And then all the staff started laughing. If you are in the ER right now and they say they've found a bed for you at hospital of behavior medicine I am begging you please ask for a different bed. I wish I could give this place negative a trillion stars. read more

if I could give zero I would. I found I need more care and now when getting it I'm fearful of dehumanization, hearing I'm too pretty to be there, and just all around abuse. i was treated fairly, but got put on seroquel 200 mg for bipolar unspecified when all I went in for was ptsd. now I'm left confused. also I have old fractures that never healed correctly because they had no medical aid there and nothing to help me. my hand could've been broken! this was previous to emerging, yet I expected to go and get my brace. I guess they don't have alternative help for those stroking out on the floor, hitting their heads, threatening suicide and much more. sad sad place. I was even told I could work there after six months! inwas there for suicide thoughts, ptsd, and depression. why would a mentally ill girl just helping work there? unsafe place to be. read more

As a loved one of a patient... The person that was admitted was admitted on a Thursday morning. I was able to visit that day and left some clothing for them to shower and change as they had already been in a regular hospital for a few days. I spoke with them on Friday morning and they still have not received their clothing - come on.... I drop it off at 2:00pm and they CAN'T get it up to the patient that day??? My other issue is why is it so secure? I have had other loved ones admitted to the same type of program and we were always able to bring in our phones and our personal belongings. If you are so concerned about safety, then you should separate the more emotionally disturbed. Unfortunately the person admitted wasn't asked where he would like to go, so I guess it wasn't up to him, but if I had been able to talk with the people moving him to this place I would have refused and had him brought to a place more inline with his issues. I will come back with reviews on the actual care once I have had time to talk to someone. read more

The intake process took 4.5 hours. Completely triggering and unacceptable. Here you have a patient in an acute state, being admitted to a psychiatric facility, and said facility takes 4.5 hours to do what others do in less than 1 hour. Most of that time i was simply sitting in an empty room with nothing to do! Otherwise, the staff, overall, were friendly and helpful. Not necessarily knowledgeable about adult mental health, but they tried... The main psychiatrist for the Older Adults could improve his "bedside manner" as it appears he hates his job. Facility is clean. Odd things like 1¾" toothbrush bothered me... 17'x17'ish courtyard with 12' walls for "fresh air breaks"... no adult markers for coloring, the plastic was "too hard". Made for a boring stay. Not enough groups and the ones we had (for thr most part) weren't topical enough. read more
