    Fayette Montessori School

    Fayette Montessori School

Primary Student/Teacher ratio: 19 to 1 + 1 assistant teacher for ages 3-6 years. Classroom clean…read moreand organized. Centers appropriately placed. Independence and peer interaction highly encouraged. At minimum, a 2-year commitment for your child to learn the Montessori Method. I did notice the classroom environment was very "sterile". Lacks academic and visual stimulation. No alphabets or numbers on the wall, even a lack of seasonal focus. I heard from another parent whose child is currently enrolled in the primary class that the teacher is not proactive in offering solutions to help your child succeed in the classroom. It was frustrating to her because she's paying them to educate her child, and to work with her on how she could get her child up to par within the school's standards. Perhaps the teacher lacks training in offering solutions because I get the sense that the school Director is "limited" by her views and conforms to the Montessori tradition. If you plan on enrolling your child in the Fayette County public schools system when he enters kindergarten, you better look for a different preschool. The reason why you moved into this county was for the excellent public schools right? Fayette County has a reputation for being an affluent and educated county. The public school educators here will challenge your child to thrive socially & academically. And the best way to do that is to get your child enrolled in a traditional preschool with a focus on academics (your child will also get play time ) and will teach your child from the very beginning to write his first & last name; familiar with and recognize the sounds of the alphabet, recognize numbers 1-20 and count up to 100; recognize at least 20 sight words (current Fayette County kindergarteners must recognize at least 130 sight words by January); familiar with colors; comfortable using a pair of scissors safely; ability to sit for at least 15 minutes during circle or story time; and demonstrate good listening skills, that's just to name a few. If you DO NOT want your child in a preschool that focuses on academics, and would like to have this Montessori school teach him "reality based" life skills like cleaning, organizing, gardening and collaborating with friends, then this is the place!

If you are looking for a childcare center this solely for babysitting, this is a great choice. The…read morecurrent director, assistant director, and core teachers are dedicated to children. Yet, the management (owners) or lack of management's knowledge is the issue. They are not educators. In the more than six months that my child attended several things occurred that you should be WARNED about: 1) tuition increased $84 with no written communication. Emails were sent stating a 25 dollar increase a week. I was told that did not pertain to me no increase I was a new parent , only to find out in the portal of the increase. The director gravely resolved but the owner never responded to my request for a meeting regarding the issue. 2) No curriculum. The owner might say a team was brought in but you will never get a newsletter with academic focus for the week, no benchmark assessment or weekly activities. Lessons are on the wall but you can't have academics with inconsistent staffing. Some classes like the two years are so big you need small groups for instruction. 3) Staffing is a major issue. Some classes have consistent teachers others not so much. You will drop your child off to people you know and pick your child up to people you have never seen. Its so bad teachers in the room won't know the children's names 4) BUT THE WORST INCIDENT --- I went to drop my child off and it was 9:15. Since coming to the center the 9:00 cut off has not been implemented. I was met at the door without any communication from management and told we could not enter. I had a meeting as many other working parents, I was late. I had to take my child back home despite not being told about a policy before hand. I am not sure why you would take your child to a place that is punitive to parents --the customer. It boggles my mind that the people I pay could not have resolved an issue or implemented a policy more effectively. THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR WORKING PARENTS--- NO CURRICULUM , CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND PUNITIVE TO CLIENT. Please know my review is as a parent and early childhood professional with 3 degrees.

They treat us as family. I am very familiar with all of the teachers there and I am always welcome with a smile. I look forward to many more years with them as my grandson looks forward to going to daycare everyday and lights up when he sees, Libia, Gladys, Gracie and Ms. McConicle (hope I spelled it right). I am very very very happy with my choice to bring him here. I waited to give the relationship time to be sure I was right about trusting them with my only grandchild and I was. I am a WORKING grandmother and I have never had an issue. The rules are the rules and are there for the safety of the children and to keep consistency. I appreciate that they take pride in that! GREAT CHOICE FOR CHILD CARE!!!!
