I joined a…read morekickball league and went last night for my first game, and was surprised, excited, and shocked all at the same time. This park is massive, and there are amazing views of the city of Hartford. There is plenty of on-street parking, several fields for games, and just wide, open spaces. I'm looking forward to coming here weekly for my games, and also just to explore, have a picnic, or just to play!

All of the equipment was functional and we were promptly dropped off at the starting point. The trip was a great mix of calm water and a little excitement in small rapids. This late in the season, the water level was a little low and I did have to do some walking but that's river canoeing for you. Arrived at the shop, pulled up the canoe, checked out and we were back on our way. We look forward to taking a longer trip with friends next season.

The Connecticut operation has locations spread across every corner of the state "to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens". Last night we attended a fundraising gala for Hartford's newest B&G Club, the beautiful South End Boys and Girls Club. It's located "in a neighborhood that needs it most" as explained by Guest Speaker Luke Bronin, Mayor of Hartford. The evening was titled "Great Futures and Open House, and the program started as soon as we stepped off the bus and were serenaded by a children's brass band. There were 300 guests in attendance and we really enjoyed touring the various rooms -one for music, one for dance, one for technology, one for art, etc. The highlight of the evening was a formal presentation hosted by ESPN's Sage Steele. Other speakers besides the Mayor were Claire Burns of Hartford Insurance (the lead sponsor), Sam Gray, CEO and President of the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford, and Ismael -Hartford's 2023 Youth of the Year. There was a massive auction of donated goods and services and food were provided by DORO Catering of West Hartford. It was a very inspirational evening and if you're looking for a good cause to support, you might want to check out the Boys and Girls Club.

J.B. Williams Park is over 160 acres of hiking trails, woodlands, streams, wooden bridges, and a…read moregorgeous lake. I attended a private party at their Pavilion that was very cool. The pavilion is a big 40'x40' covered wood structure with lots of picnic tables and benches. They also have a companion building with a kitchen, refrigerator, sink, service counter, and stove. The grounds are gorgeous and I spent an hour or so wandering around the hiking trails and over the wood bridges and enjoying the tranquil beauty of the lake before my event started.
