First time we went to hear Fado, we went for a Fado dinner. Music was great but food was the worst meal we had in Lisbon. This time around, we wanted some Fado experience again, but after searching a while on Yelp and other places, it seems like whatever price you pay, expect mediocre food at best. Then I saw a flyer for Fado Inside the Box. It's a one hour music with a glass of wine and simple tapas of bread, cheese and ham for €17. This is quite a perfect solution, allowing us to rest our legs after a long day of exploring, and free up our evenings to have a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants the city has. The food and drink is quite delicious, though be warned that they do not bring anything to tables after the show started, in respect of the performers, so while you may get seated if you arrive late, don't complain about missing food. The seating is comfortable, not as crowded as the less pricey fado houses. While most fado places will have a performance of a few songs, then an hour long break before you get to hear more, and you stay from 8pm to midnight, this one is straight up a solid 45 min of songs and music. I would say that the performers is not as good as the ones for evening shows, but for someone who just want a taste of the unique music and don't want to spend a lot of money or time, this is a good spot for it. I was looking for a place in Lisbon to experience a fado performance solo and saw an ad for "Fado Inside the Box" a daily show from 5pm-6pm. It was a great 1 hour intro to Fado and perfect if you're looking to escape the heat in the early evening. The musicians and singers were excellent and the location was cool, quiet and intimate on the lower floor of the restaurant. The cost worked well for me - €17 for the performance, a big glass of good white wine, and some tapas of cheese, olives and prosciutto. I think they also had bread but I arrived right before the show and they forgot to bring mine out or ran out. After the show the performers came around to sell CDs if you want to grab one for a souvenir. My only regret was not going to a later 2 hour show with more Fado! Make sure to get there about 15 min before the show so they have time to seat you, starts promptly at 5pm. I got there too early and they weren't open yet, so I went to get a coffee nearby, and when I got there 5 minutes early everyone else was already seated drinking and eating.

Amazing fado experience. Food was spectacular. Service was top tier. Stayed late and got a few extra songs. Couldn't recommend more.

They also make it a point to have everyone be quiet during the performance which I loved.

Pastries de Bacalhau - the crust was not brown enough. May be longer time. The stuffing was flavorful but it's more the cod taste than the flavored mash potatoes which I prefer. I actually prefer the other local restaurant I tried the night before better. Caldo Verde - The potatoe part of the soup is great. Perfect viscosity but the flavor is not. It wasn't salty enough but more importantly is the flavor of the veggies and the spicy sausage they supposed to use that makes the soup taste different. Grilled giant pawns - The flavor of the prawns is not as intense as expected and hope to be. The squid ink pasta also lacked of flavor. That's disappointing. With the prawns, they should at least use the prawn shell to make sauce for the pastas. The pasta was tasteless, didn't even use enough garlic and olive oil to flavor it up. Seafood rice - Another disappointment. They used fish, small mussels and little bit of shrimp pieces along with some bigger whole shrimps and mussels. However, the rice was lack of the true seafood flavor that made from shell fish. They also added cilantro which overwhelmed the whatever left of seafood flavor. The lemonade was not a sweet lemonade but sour. Fyi. It's not fair we just went to another restaurant in the neighborhood and everything was so much better but people should know.

The fact that my husband and I got there before anyone else came, allowed us to have the most amazing conversation with the staff that works there!! Faysal greeted us and was very welcoming! As we ate dinner, Bernardo who is a waiter there, told us the history of the building etc and since no one else was there, we talked about our families and that he going to be a veterinarian...and that he has something else coming up that is going to be exciting. All through our dinner we chatted with him (as if we were having dinner at his house) and enjoyed every minute of the conversation!! It was the best part of the evening! We even got to meet Miguel the chef, and were happy to tell him his food was amazing! I can't recommend this restaurant enough!!! They only charge 19.60 euro for all you can eat!!!! I hope a lot of people read this and go to Rosa da Rua!!!

The restaurant was quaint and intimate , with a small buffet that easily fills you up. There were many options from a beef stew to a curry, a noodle dish with bacon, salad, and other options. They even explained the options to us. I truly wish we had more time in Lisbon because I would have definitely returned to try it again as the options differ nightly. I would definitely recommend this to all in Lisbon.
