Definitely recommend making a reservation, I found it impressive that the hostess's reservation system was essentially a notebook and pen in this digital age. We did not see much of our waiter, since the restaurant was extremely busy and filled up with diners. Standouts: 1. Razor clams - I'll always get these if I see it on the menu. Cooked in this incredible garlic sauce. 2. Fish and seafood cataplana - delicious, tomato-forward seafood stew; I liked the version that we had the night before more which came with rice and was more filling. But this was basically a never-ending bowl of fish, clams, mussels, and shrimp. Add to that the fact that the restaurant like most in Porto did not have A/C and I emerged feeling like I had been sitting in a sauna. Skipped dessert; I had my eye on the Weeel! froyo truck parked outside. One more nit - the metal chairs are not comfortable at all for sitting a long time in.

We ordered a few tapas to share: croquets de alheira and croquets de codfish. Both were so good! We loved it. The star of the show though was the pork neck tacos! They were so delicious! So much flavor and perfect. I got the lemonade and it was just okay. Nothing special. Overall, would 100% recommend this place! Make a reservation if you can but if you can't, would still try to stop by!

I ordered a drink, but 20 minutes later, another waitress stopped by to apologize but they ran out of ice and my waiter had to go get more. huh??? I ordered the marinated olives as a starter because the menu picture showed it came with hummus and bread, but all I got were olives. So the same waitress noticed I had no bread and apologized and brought bread. My waiter returned (presumably with the ice), walked over to my table and took away my bread plate with no explanation. While I was eating the bread (because now I had been there over 40 minutes with no food or drink) Finally I got the francesinha, which yes was good, but sheesh, idk how there could be so many misses in the service, and no apologies from my waiter, no offer of a free espresso or anything to make up for the comedy of errors. I hope this is just an anomaly because there are so many other good reviews, but I won't return.

I am writing this review on a tour bus so I am keeping it short but refer to the pictures and I agree with the other good reviews. My wife had the Octopus and I had Shrimp and rice which was good but was better in Lisbon. Overall we had a good time.

It was late September when we visited and it was one of the few colder, rainy nights so we had to sit inside. However the dining area is open, warm, bright and immaculate. We started with the cod cakes and sauteed mushrooms for starters. The cakes are not the traditional Portuguese cod fritter, they were lightly crisp and delicate and the mushrooms were rich and firm. We selected a Duro valley red (Quinta dos Castle Ares) which we loved. I selected their Black pork loin end which had a side of a vegetable lasagna, my wife had the Black pork cheek in plum sauce with chestnuts and greens (see photos). I regret that I did not write down the Portuguese names of the dishes. But both main courses were complex and satisfying. For vegetarians, I believe they offer the veg lasagna as a separate dish, and have other veg friendly options. Fore desert we split the chocolate mouse, my wife had port and I had (..two..) Beirão. It was the first time I had tried that specialty and now I am a fan. The service was excellent. We were attended properly and kindly and if there was a language barrier, one of the staff who spoke English was there to help. I highly recommend Histórico for a lovely dining experience should you find yourself in Guimarães.
