Came here for Sunday dinner to try their piri piri chicken. We entered from the front door and went straight in the back and up the stairs where we waited about 20 mins to get seated. There were 2 rooms for dining whereas the bottom area was more for single eaters and those who wanted to eat at the bar. Our Portuguese waitress spoke and understood very little English and didn't help when my wife wanted rice and hot tea with her meal. Also, the internet was very poor in the staircase and on the 2nd floor so couldn't access a translator for some Portuguese words as well as looking at yelp reviews and photos. So I knew I was getting the chicken and chose "1 dose" frango assado no espeto con batata frita at 14 euro. My wife ordered cabbage soup and half a dose of sardines . So when I got the chicken I didn't realize 1 dose meant one full Chicken and a family size portion of fries. The dark meat and the skin on the wings was the most flavorful and tasty. On the sides they have vinegar, olive oil and chili oil which I added the chili oil for an added kick to the chicken. I give 5 stars for the chicken and abundant frites. My wife's order of 1/2 dose equaled 3 sardines which was more than enough for my wife who could only eat 2. Unfortunately, the service was sub par compared to other places we ate. It took a long time to get my soda whereas my wife got her tea well before I got anything to drink. I think the lack of understanding on both myself and the waitress made it a little more difficult. 4 stars As for the price of what we ordered, it was a good deal for the portions. 31.80 euro was the bill. Food- 5 stars Service - 4 stars Price - 5 stars Ambiance - 4 stars

Great service! We were seated soon after arriving. The rotisserie chicken and black pork was delicious. These dishes were served with a fresh, crisp salad or fries. And yes, we couldn't leave without trying dessert.

Was disappointed with our experience, after this place came highly recommended from our Airbnb host and seemingly everyone online. We were sat right away but our server walked by us several times after but didn't take our order for what felt like a solid 20 minutes after we'd been seated. We got the half portion of chicken and fries, and the octopus salad. The octopus salad did not taste fresh, and the chicken was okay but just very average and dry. We had eaten at Bonjardim in Lisbon earlier that week, where the chicken was very juicy and flavorful, so this felt very mediocre in comparison. Fries were just okay too. Not sure if we caught them on an off day but can't recommend

When looking to grab some food in Porto, there was one restaurant which seemed to come up in almost every search and was even recommended to me by the staff at my hotel - Pedro dos Frangos. As of December 2024, it is also the third most reviewed business in Porto on Yelp, so I had to check what all the fuss was about and I was pleased with my experience. While the restaurant might not look like much from the outside, even the interior looks a little lacklustre and unimpressive, they certainly made up for it with the food. I was disappointed with the service, though I don't want to be too harsh as there was a language barrier. I could tell my server was trying his best despite his limited English (and my limited Portuguese). However, I did face challenges in obtaining allergen information. Even after showing him a translation card, he was unaware and had to seek help from another staff member. Since he ultimately took my order, it didn't give me much confidence that cross-contamination would be avoided. I decided to order a large plate of food to share with my guests. The food was incredibly affordable, costing just over 20 euros, even with a bottle of water and a soda. It was a great option for a table of two ordering together to share the chicken with fries and salad. The chicken was undoubtedly the highlight of the meal, with the peri-peri sauce on the side, the chicken was so juicy and flavoursome, even the skin was crispy. The salad was fresh, and I liked everything apart from the carrots, which were a little hard and chopped too finely for my liking. The fries were fine but were more of a fast-food fry; they weren't hot either, but the chicken was and that was the main thing. 4* - I would certainly visit here again as the chicken was delicious, and it was one of the best meals I had during my time in Porto, and certainly the best value for money.

Yesterday, we had lunch upstairs on the second floor. It was a lovely, smoke-free meal, with delicious food & friendly l, professional service. Today, my DS wanted piri piri again ... so we stopped for lunch; however, this time we got take out and brought it back to the hotel. Talk about an awesome deal for 10.5€ (includes fries but substituted for rice). The chicken is finger licking addictive, but I gotta give credit to that crazy good rice. It's like 85% fluffy, 15% crunchy, and pairs oh so well w the chicken, esp w a generous amt of piri piri sauce, which brings everything together. Something tells me there's a good chance we might be back for round 3!!!

In my opinion, this restaurant was ok. First of all, most of the staff can hardly speak English. Our waitress, however, spoke very good English and was always smiling and very hospitable. The older gentlemen kept joking with each other. We come into the restaurant and were told to go upstairs to the second floor (they have a third floor as well). We waited to be seated. The place smelled of oil and grease, and it was hot and humid in there, no ventilation. Minus one star. We didn't ask for bread but they brought out a basket and asked if we wanted some. We said ok. It cost .60 Euros. brought out bread. We each ordered 1/2 serving calamari platter with rice and salad and 1/2 serving of white cod fish with salad and rice, and water. Both seafood were deep fried with a salty batter. Minus one star. We removed the batter and ate just the meaty parts. Other than the battered part of the meal, the food was good and filling.

This place is as real as it gets for the piri piri chicken. It's unbelievable with the wonderful taste and spices. We elected to sit at the bar for faster service. You can also be seated in the dining room, may require wait time. We got a full chicken. Batatas. Salad. Bread. Beer. Water. All for under 20euros. Authentic. Authentic. Enjoy.

Pedro Dos Frangos is a casual churrasqueira, or grill restaurant, with an extensive menu of Portuguese dishes with a focus on grilled chicken. My favorite dish was the Octopus Salad, in which huge octopus chunks were marinated in an acidic dressing with chopped onions and parsley. I also had the Codfish Balls, or fritters made of mashed cod and herbs, but the fritters were served cold and would have been much better fresh. The grilled chicken was juicy and nicely seasoned; and the Tripas a moda do Porto was a classic stew of slimy beef tripe cooked in a hearty, savory mixture of white beans, carrots, spicy sausage, and ham chunks. To go with everything, we had a basket of breadrolls and dense slices of corn bread, as well as a mixed salad of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and shredded carrots. Overall, the food here was delicious and came at an unbeatable value too!

I tried the Half Rotisserie Chicken from Pedro Dos Fangos in Porto. The chicken was nicely cooked and had good flavour. Overall, I'd give it 8.3/10.

Definitely recommend making a reservation, I found it impressive that the hostess's reservation system was essentially a notebook and pen in this digital age. We did not see much of our waiter, since the restaurant was extremely busy and filled up with diners. Standouts: 1. Razor clams - I'll always get these if I see it on the menu. Cooked in this incredible garlic sauce. 2. Fish and seafood cataplana - delicious, tomato-forward seafood stew; I liked the version that we had the night before more which came with rice and was more filling. But this was basically a never-ending bowl of fish, clams, mussels, and shrimp. Add to that the fact that the restaurant like most in Porto did not have A/C and I emerged feeling like I had been sitting in a sauna. Skipped dessert; I had my eye on the Weeel! froyo truck parked outside. One more nit - the metal chairs are not comfortable at all for sitting a long time in.

Around noon, someone did show up briefly to post a sign out front saying they were going to be opening at 12:45 that day (I asked out of curiosity; sounds like it's *often* 12:30, but it's really mostly a "they'll open when they want to" kind of place.) I knew it'd be the sort of place that would fill up immediately, so I got back at 12:30. At least that day, it turns out they still had 1 table left after they sat everyone there before they opened - that last table got claimed at 1, 15 minutes later. It's not a large space, and word is out for good reason. Given it's not a large space, it was also easy for them to have excellent service, which they did. You could tell they were all passionate about the place, and again, for good reason - it was great. Definitely one of the best meals we ate on that trip. Between the two of us, we tried: Complimentary bread and olive oil. One OMG fantastic, wonderful fish soup. The sort of soup you'd want to eat every day if you could. Croquettes that were pretty good. Enjoyable enough, perfectly crispy, a little too salty. Not nearly as memorable as everything else. The seafood rice stew for 2 - a description I always question ("for 2"), but true in this case. It was quite large - and great. Excellent shrimp, which I'm picky about. I'm even pickier about shellfish (clams, mussels, etc). I was expecting to give my wife most of them, but I did *not* do that. They really know how to get and cook the best seafood here. The rice at the top of the stew wasn't anything particular to mention - filling, though, and warming for the drizzly day it'd been that morning. The rice at the *bottom* of the stew, that'd been slowly cooking in hot stew the whole time, was *very good*. :D Wine-wise, they have like a hundred bottles of wine by the whole bottom, some very expensive, some *surprisingly* reasonably priced, but we also didn't need a whole bottle of wine with lunch - by the glass, they just had one red and one white house wine (also solidly priced, though, for a place like this, 6 euros (Be way more than that in the US. I had the red with the stew - solid.) Also a handful of solid-looking ports by the glass, one of which I had with dessert, a reserva tawny for 6.50 euros. After eating the stew, my wife tapped out. I was also pretty full, but I'd spent a lot of effort getting here and I was *gonna* have dessert, darn it. Had what was basically just a whole roasted stewed apple, cooked down until it turned to pudding. Super good. Went really well with a reserva tawny port. This place was great.

Luckily for us the restaurant was only half full so there was no need to wait (weekday at 3pm). Odd hours for popular restaurants worked out the best for us on this trip. Inside there were just 8 tables so I can see why this place usually sees long lines outside. It was quite cozy. Menu was straightforward with appetizers, seafood and from the country (aka meat). The octopus rice was so good. The strips of sliced octopus were very tender and the flavors of this dish were delicious. It was comforting on that cold and rainy afternoon. The salt crusted seabass selection was delivered the with flare all covered in flames. Our server ignored the flames and proceeded to crack open the salt crust, fillet and debone the fish. Full service! The fish was meaty and perfectly cooked. The side of potatoes and broccoli was addicting and I normally don't eat a lot of potatoes. We skipped dessert but the menu was tempting. Besides the fish service it would've been nice to have a bit more proactive attention from our server. When we requested our check, she pointed out that out that tipping was not included and waited until we completed the transaction. Would return for the food next time in Porto.

Bread course came warm, with a caramelized onion butter and some spicy bell pepper mayo that was ridiculously divine. This was my favorite course. Got the Cyber Punk tuna sashimi. Presentation was amazing. The tuna itself paired with the ponzu sauce was quite good. There were other elements like trout roe and crispy chicken skin, but the portions were sparse and I felt like the sauce drowned out their contribution a bit. Still a great dish though. Would order again. My main dish was the Vitela (braised veal). While the menu ostensibly presents these items for two to share, they can make half-portions of certain items, of which the Vitela was one. The meat was wonderfully tender. Flavor was had a slight tinge of bitterness and saltiness that didn't quite agree with me. Good dish overall. Service was kind and engaging. Possibly a bit too fussy over me for my American sensibilities, but they were very nice. The server knowledgeable about wine pairings and helped me pick out some for the courses I ordered. A couple of very minor issues here and there, like spilling some wine when pouring the glass, stuff like that. Also, the server shook my hand coming and going. Nice gesture but all I could think of was germs. Bathroom: Single-occupancy, upscale and nice. Toilet seat wouldn't stay up though. All in all, at decent restaurant but like I said, I had a bunch of small complaints that just added up, and it says a lot that my favorite course was the bread course. I would not repeat personally, but I think it might be worth a try for those that really love what's on the menu.
