The focus here is on rotisserie chicken; they have other items but they're not the main event. It's very big inside, 2 stories and even early it's pretty busy. The chicken is well seasoned and very juicy; enough so that you know why it's So popular. Sides I can barely remember , but everything else was good- it's just that you will Always remember that chicken! I am delighted that I tried this place. Upon walking in, there is a diner countertop that one can sit at and basically watch the kitchen prepare your food. There is also dining upstairs. As I came in on my own I opted for the one open stool at the counter. The restaurant was busy on a Monday early evening, about 5:30-6:00 pm-ish, with what felt like mostly locals. They have a regular menu, a daily menu printed on the counter top, and they also do Take-Away. Their specialty is definitely their roasted chicken, which one can see cooking on spits at the entrance of the restatruant, conjuring such amazing smells that truly open up the appetite. The staff is sweet and did their best to serve me, with my English/Spanish and no Portugese self. Everything I ate was top-tier without being fancy. Simple and flavorful. I ordered a 1/2 chicken (way too much for me by myself) that came with batatas (french fries- which I didnt love), so I ordered a side of white rice and a salad, as well as what I would call a carafe of wine (it was definitely either two very healthy pours or 3 regular ones). On our first night in Porto, after we'd ridden the tram, we were in search of a good meal. We found this spot and clearly the word is out about it. While we had about a 20 minute wait, by the time we were seated, the steps were completely filled with people waiting to get seated. We went with the bbq chicken with fries and the meat plate - ribs, sausage, steak, and chicken. Our waiter thought that we had too much food and he recommended that we downsize to the 1/2 chicken plate. We got a salad as well. Came here for Sunday dinner to try their piri piri chicken. We entered from the front door and went straight in the back and up the stairs where we waited about 20 mins to get seated. There were 2 rooms for dining whereas the bottom area was more for single eaters and those who wanted to eat at the bar. Our Portuguese waitress spoke and understood very little English and didn't help when my wife wanted rice and hot tea with her meal. Also, the internet was very poor in the staircase and on the 2nd floor so couldn't access a translator for some Portuguese words as well as looking at yelp reviews and photos. So I knew I was getting the chicken and chose "1 dose" frango assado no espeto con batata frita at 14 euro. My wife ordered cabbage soup and half a dose of sardines . So when I got the chicken I didn't realize 1 dose meant one full Chicken and a family size portion of fries. The dark meat and the skin on the wings was the most flavorful and tasty. On the sides they have vinegar, olive oil and chili oil which I added the chili oil for an added kick to the chicken. I give 5 stars for the chicken and abundant frites. My wife's order of 1/2 dose equaled 3 sardines which was more than enough for my wife who could only eat 2. Unfortunately, the service was sub par compared to other places we ate. It took a long time to get my soda whereas my wife got her tea well before I got anything to drink. We are in Porto for the first time and found this gem by accident. The food was soooo delicious. The small entrance with the rotisserie chickens roasting over coals right inside the doorway. Upstairs has three rooms for seating. The wait was about 15 mins but you knew it would be worth the wait because those in line were locals! We enjoyed the chicken fried rice salad and drinks. December 27/2015: Dinner with my Al. You KNOW the place is classy when they use paper tablecloths! Super casual environment. Dining both at the downstairs (bar area) & a larger upstairs dining area. Not sure how previous Yelpers tagged this as a 4-5 Star but to me...this is a 2 star at best. Our server was a very nice Portuguese lady with a perpetual smile. She did forget two ordered items, however. A side veggies & a bottle of water, so that was a loss of a star. Other than that, it was all going well until the food arrived and then the wheels fell off! The food was at best mediocre. The fish was overly "fishy" tasting. We came here because it was so widely publicized on TikTok, but honestly food was below average and the service was awful. We waited about 30 minutes to be seated, even though there was many open tables the waiters and waitresses just didn't care to sit you right away. After taking our order which we were the second people to put in our order, we noticed everyone else that ordered after us pretty much the same dishes they got served first and we had two children with us. It was beyond us of why we weren't being served. we treated them with respect and we were extremely nice to them but after realizing we were getting our food served last we were extremely upset. I would not eat here especially if you're with kids and again the food was definitely not the hype. Also to add it was extremely depressing. Was disappointed with our experience, after this place came highly recommended from our Airbnb host and seemingly everyone online. We were sat right away but our server walked by us several times after but didn't take our order for what felt like a solid 20 minutes after we'd been seated. We got the half portion of chicken and fries, and the octopus salad. The octopus salad did not taste fresh, and the chicken was okay but just very average and dry. When looking to grab some food in Porto, there was one restaurant which seemed to come up in almost every search and was even recommended to me by the staff at my hotel - Pedro dos Frangos. As of December 2024, it is also the third most reviewed business in Porto on Yelp, so I had to check what all the fuss was about and I was pleased with my experience. While the restaurant might not look like much from the outside, even the interior looks a little lacklustre and unimpressive, they certainly made up for it with the food. I was disappointed with the service, though I don't want to be too harsh as there was a language barrier. I could tell my server was trying his best despite his limited English (and my limited Portuguese). However, I did face challenges in obtaining allergen information. Even after showing him a translation card, he was unaware and had to seek help from another staff member. Since he ultimately took my order, it didn't give me much confidence that cross-contamination would be avoided. I decided to order a large plate of food to share with my guests. The food was incredibly affordable, costing just over 20 euros, even with a bottle of water and a soda. It was a great option for a table of two ordering together to share the chicken with fries and salad. The chicken was undoubtedly the highlight of the meal, with the peri-peri sauce on the side, the chicken was so juicy and flavoursome, even the skin was crispy. The salad was fresh, and I liked everything apart from the carrots, which were a little hard and chopped too finely for my liking. Yesterday, we had lunch upstairs on the second floor. It was a lovely, smoke-free meal, with delicious food & friendly l, professional service. Today, my DS wanted piri piri again ... so we stopped for lunch; however, this time we got take out and brought it back to the hotel. Talk about an awesome deal for 10.5€ (includes fries but substituted for rice). The chicken is finger licking addictive, but I gotta give credit to that crazy good rice. The BEST tiger prawns I have ever tasted. If you like or love shrimp/prawns... these are phenomenal. I get to travel the world for work and have my favorite places in each town/city. In Porto, this is the place for me. Service is great. Porto is great in the winter, PACKED in the summer. This place is consistent but get a reservation or go really early in summer. I like the Ambiance - it's not on the river and it's not maybe a place to go if you are just visiting Porto for one day in your life as it's not the tourist spot. It's an amazing restaurant. Pedro Dos Frangos is a casual churrasqueira, or grill restaurant, with an extensive menu of Portuguese dishes with a focus on grilled chicken. My favorite dish was the Octopus Salad, in which huge octopus chunks were marinated in an acidic dressing with chopped onions and parsley. I also had the Codfish Balls, or fritters made of mashed cod and herbs, but the fritters were served cold and would have been much better fresh. The grilled chicken was juicy and nicely seasoned; and the Tripas a moda do Porto was a classic stew of slimy beef tripe cooked in a hearty, savory mixture of white beans, carrots, spicy sausage, and ham chunks. To go with everything, we had a basket of breadrolls and dense slices of corn bread, as well as a mixed salad of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and shredded carrots. Our local tour guide brought our group here for a casual real Portuguese lunch. Our group loved it. We shared piri piri chicken and fries, a beautiful rice dish full of veggies, and grilled sardines! It was all full of flavor, so much food for lunch! We sat upstairs, the downstairs area was packed. It was a hopping place! Came in for dinner with my family (6 adults) on a Monday at around 6 PM. We were sort of doing our own mini food crawl prior to this so we weren't super hungry. So we decided to order a few things to share. We got the spit-roasted chicken and the Braga style cod (fried salted cod with onions, boiled potatoes, and boiled eggs). The chicken was very good. It was cooked perfectly, even the white meat. I guess that's what happens when you roast it on a spit, which you can awe at at the storefront. Fries were crispy enough but could have used some kind of flavorful dipping sauce. Maybe chicken drippings perhaps??? (I don't know, that's just the fatty in me). Although this place is known for the roast chicken, don't sleep on the fish. Portugal is known for its salted cod, so this dish was really good as well. I wasn't used to having boiled eggs with it but I could get behind it. It does have bones though, and I usually like filets, so just be careful with that. We also ordered a carafe of the green wine and the red wine, which was definitely way too much wine for 6 people (especially when half don't really drink). A typical Portuguese family style restaurant that serves up honestly good food at reasonable price. This restaurant has been around for over 60 years. They started out as a rotisserie chicken place, has since also expanded their space, from a small storefront on the ground floor to additional floors above it, to another space right across the street. When we went to the original location, they directed us to the fancier, newer spot across the street, assuring us that it's the same restaurant. Now that they have gained fame among tourists as well (their website offers 6 language options), they have expanded their menu to include most Porto specialties, such as francesinha (a sandwich loaded with all types of meat and topped with a beer cheese sauce), tripas (beef tripes with beans), and more. We ordered the caldo verde, roasted suckling pig and chicken - well, this place started out as a chicken place, so we decided to stay with their specialty. There is plenty of chances to try the other dishes elsewhere. The chicken most certainly do not disappointed. Now, Portuguese chicken will never be as fat and meaty as the ones in the US, it's just different breeds and different raising methods, I suppose. But it's really flavorful. Went for the chicken which I heard is the best and where the locals go. Stood in line luckily it wasn't that long (when we left it was way long). Service was poor in fact a old local man got mad and loudly yelled at the waiter for ignoring him for so long ( he did the same to us) and the man left cursing him out on the way out. You can see the rotisserie chicken cooking in the window. We also got a mixed salad and cabbage soup which were both tasty. It took a while foe the food to come out, but it was a nice treat to have some chicken after eating so much fish. Prices were super affordable too. Famous Porto restaurant known for roasted chicken that's frequented by both locals and tourists for over 60 years. The frango asado was undeniably flavorful, particularly the skin and dark meats. We ordered the full portion with chips, and it came on a massively piled platter. The traditional Porto tripe is tomato-based and came with stewed white beans.
