Now there is a place down near the Adelaide Entertainment Center, however I'm told that they only do bouldering, which doesn't require a harness and a person to belay you. I started going here about 2 to 3 years ago and for a time I was there every week with a friend of mine. We liked the sport so much that we both eventually got our own harnesses and shoes which is a must for serious climbers (ok, we did it mainly because we wanted to save money on harness and shoe rental, but we were pretty serious!) Catering to people of all levels, I've seen school groups come in on a regular basis to have a go and even seen an older more seasoned climbers who climb circles around me on the wall. I enjoy it and every wall presents a new challenge. The great thing is that every week if you do it regularly you can feel yourself improving and with each wall you conquer the more you are motivated to return. Walking into the gym, the area is divided into two main areas, with lead climbing being done on the left and bouldering being done on the right area of the gym. Normally Pat is at the front desk and for people who have never climbed before, you would need to call before hand and book in a safety and training induction to learn how to tie your knots and belay the person you are climbing with. This doesn't take very long and is easier than it sounds. A great place in Adelaide to try out a unique sport, you're looking to spend $15 or more for day entry into the gym depending on if you're hiring shoes and other extras but they also have memberships whereby you can pay monthly for any time entry for a certain period of time or you can pay for a certain number of entries up front at a discounted price. I highly recommend it to anyone and definitely something challenging for people to try at least once.

There is so much to do there, so much in fact I hope you don't pass out from reading the next sentence. Latitude has trampolines, dodgeball, a big air bag to practice flips into, rock climbing walls and ropes, an obstacle course, basketball lanes, a slack line, a giant ledge that you can just jump off, an under 5 year old trampoline and play gym area, a cafe, and if that's not enough, there is a battle beam where you can beat up your opponent - gladiator style. It's $17.50 (plus $2 for socks) per session. You can book online. Look out for specials, currently they have $12 for students between Mon-Fri. I love that you don't need someone to belay you when rock climbing. The rope from your harness is connected to a pulley mechanism on the ceiling. When you jump away from the wall, you just just float to the ground. I imagine this is how spiderman feels. Staff are friendly and can show you how to fit into the rock climbing harness and how to attach yourself to the rope. I am a complete rock climbing novice and although petrified, I felt safe under their instructions. I do feel the trampolines at Bounce Inc. are more bouncy and the socks a little bit better (also, I prefer the Bounce Inc. website, but now I'm just nitpicking). Come try out Latitude for an alternative way to work out or have fun with your family and friends. It's even lil' kid friendly with a under 5s play area. Remember to bring your sneakers so you can rock climb and go on the obstacle course.

Today men equal to those of yore battle for supremacy at MARS and long shall they be remembered in the pages of history. I play Basketball and Mixed Netball at MARS Sporting Complex in Marden. What makes this a good venue? Well firstly it is pretty close to where I live, which shortens the stank that seeps into the car seats. The three wooden floored courts are sprung and there is plenty of space to the sides of all courts, which can be a problem at some venue's (walls leave big bruises). The other thing that I like is the umpires, in particular the head netball umpire who is a champ. I think a place where the umpires take the time to get to know you is one you should keep going back to, as I have been for 15 years! One big negative is that when it is hot outside it is STUPIDLY hot inside! The aircon only encompasses the front canteen and upstairs Gym, and the 5 or 6 fans just don't cut the mustard. As mentioned, other than the three courts there is also a full gym (with classes etc) and an indoor rock climbing wall. The canteen/bar does not serve alcohol (it used to) which is a right bummer! Also keep in mind that parking can be tight on the occasions that the neighbouring soccer club has training as they choose to park in the gym parking rather than their own. P.S. the times listed are office hours, but the social games start as late as 10:30 on some evenings.

The gym upstairs, although I've never been a member, is 24 hours and accessible from its own entrance way on the side of the building. Admittedly, sometimes the staff could use a little more training in hospitality/customer service, but it's not really a place you go to get ultra high service. There are plenty of drinks and bites to eat at the kiosk, the guys running the comps always get the schedules up online in time but sometimes they get it a little wrong (they do take over the phone enquiries). If you've got a few mates that wanna chuck the ball round on a weeknight/weekend, and at least one of you can organise you all to show up each week, get in and give Mars a go. It's a sweaty fun time!

However, we also offer Yoga and Mobility classes once a week and are currently running a Ladies only strength and conditioning class. Our classes cater to all ages and levels of ability.
