As state park campgrounds go, this is a very good one. It has a semi wilderness feel, which I like…read more Most of the campsites are only reachable by boat, some by boat or hiking, and there are a handful of sites that can be driven up to. The sites are relatively primitive with the only amenities being a picnic table, outhouse and either a fire ring or stone fireplace. There is also a bear box at most sites big enough for an average size cooler and a few bags of food. There are bear in the area so it's highly recommended (in fact it may be a rule) that all your food goes in the box when you are sleeping, or away from camp. About 1/4 of the sites have a small floating dock, while the rest you have to land your boat on shore. Some of the landings can be rocky and a little slick, so watch out. The sites are a little close together for my taste, but thankfully not every one was occupied when we were there, so we had space. If you need a boat to get to your site, canoes are available for rent ($20 per day). You can swim right from your campsite, there is pretty good fishing for bass and the scenery is spectacular. Though I much prefer the nearby wilderness lakes and rivers when I want to go paddle camping, this is a very decent alternative if you're with people who don't want to leave civilization too far behind. Most sites are no more than a 30 minute paddle from the landing and Long Lake is a few minute drive. So if you need ice, food, drinks or a Wi-Fi connection, it's only a short distance away. The campground is pretty popular, so book early

If you want to get away from it all without going too far from civilization, Forked Lake…read more(pronounced For Ked Lake) is the place to go. It's got 79 sites, some primitive ones that you have hike or paddle to and a few sites for trailers and RV's. There's no flush toilets or showers but there is potable water and out houses. The lake is gorgeous, quiet, and pristine. About a third of the land around the lake is state land, the rest is mostly owned by Whitney Industries and when they say no trespassing, they really mean it. The only negative to this is there are the most aggressive deer flies I've ever seen.

I have been staying at Galusha's Cottages for over 20 years and absolutely love every minute of it…read more I count the minutes each year before I can go back. Yes, the cabins are bare bones, and yes, you have to bring your own sheets and supplies, but, hey, that's the way mountain escapes always used to be. This is a great old-fashioned experience - away from the intrusion of TV, Wifi and cell phones. I wouldn't trade that solitude and disconnecting for anything. Lewey Lake is beautiful, peaceful and quiet. No speed boats, just canoes, kayaks, lots of birds and clear skies. The view of the Milky Way is something you don't find in too many places on the East Coast anymore.

The cottages are reasonably priced. If you are looking for a place glamp or want all the comforts of home than you might want to look elsewhere. If you want good accommodations and the ability to get away from the internet then this is for you. The cabins are rustic. They have electricity and water and are clean. You will have do some cleaning when you depart but that keeps the prices reasonable and isn't too much to ask. The lake has an abundance of wildlife. Owls, loons, beavers, moose, deer, and turkey are just some of the things you can see. The fishing was okay. There is the opportunity to catch bass and other fish. Be prepared to fish shallow water and plan on fishing vegetation. The kayaking and canoeing is great. You feel like you have the whole place to yourself. If you want a quiet getaway away from the hustle and bustle this is a place worth the trip.

We decided to take a quick mid-week trip to the Adirondacks and booked a night at Binder's Cabins…read more The location is superb overlooking Adirondack Lake. The owners Cassie and Jake greeted us like family and gave us helpful information on local attractions and restaurants. The cabin has a front screen porch for bug free relaxing and lake viewing. The place is so squeaky clean and has everything you could possibly need in its utility kitchen. Layout is great and although just two of us and our dog, it can easily sleep 5. We will be back!

I will definitely be coming up to visit more often to get away to relax.

Whether you're skiing at nearby Gore Mountain or whitewater rafting on the Hudson, returning to a nice warm condo to relax with a cold beer is a huge comfort. When we have a big group for skiing, I always try to get the 4 bedroom units, but there are only 2 of them, so the earlier you book the better. They're not true 4BR because they are really 2 units with 3+1BR with an adjoining door and 2 entrances. The unit rental rate is pricey, but that's to be expected on a holiday weekend during ski season. On the plus side, you have 2 living rooms, 2 kitchens and 3 1/2 baths which makes a big difference when you're cooking dinner or trying to get everybody ready to go out to the slopes in the morning. Both units also have gas outdoor grills if you want to throw on some steaks after a long day on the slopes. Just be sure to put on all your ski gear if you're manning the grill and it's 0 degrees when the sun goes down. The office and clubhouse building is only a short walk away. Some of the individual units have WiFi if the owner is nice enough to have it installed, but it's available in the clubhouse if you really need it. There is also a swimming pool, foosball, billiards and table tennis. The office even sells discount lift tickets for Gore if you want to save a couple of bucks off the mountain price.

We booked a townhouse for the long weekend, and it was pretty close to perfect…read more Minutes away from Gore Mountain, it was one of the best places to stay and be close enough to get there. You could drive, but there is also a shuttle. The price for the two bedroom town house was not cheap, but the comfort factor made up for it. It has a full kitchen, with lots of dishes, cooking utensils , pots and pans. Even a blender! Anything you can dream of, with more than enough serveware which was nice. There's also a dishwasher which made life easier. Living, dining and kitchen were open concept, large dining table and a flat screen tv. Upstairs were two bedrooms , the master with ensuite and shared hot tub. I was surprised how clean the place was, everything was spotless and seemed like it was left just for us. No one bugged us for the three days we were there which was nice, but you could have requested a change of sheets, more towels if you wanted to. The office down the way, had a pool and maps and thing but we didn't use any of them. The only 2 complaints was that they couldn't give us the Wifi password and seemed to be only available in the office ( a huge downer for us roaming canadians) and for some reason we couldn't regulate the temperature consistently (either too hot or too cold) Otherwise the stay was really enjoyable, and couldn't have asked for more in accommodations. For those that dont feel like skiing, North Creek town about 5 mins away has a great bakery and antique shop!

I came here with my church for a women's retreat from August 28 - August 30…read more We were given the cabins facing the lake with my room having one full bed, three bunk beds, a shower and toilet in separate rooms, a mini fridge, and a coffee maker. The shower had great water pressure and had hot and cold water. I would wake up every morning in awe of how beautiful the lake and trees looked as well as when the sun was going down. The second day we were there, we were given free time and a plethora of activities to do including kayaking, swimming, mini golf, outdoor jumbo chess, checkers, and shuffle board, rock climbing, volleyball and basketball (indoor and outdoor), gaga ball, ping pong, soccer, gym, pickleball, tennis, and cornhole. Some of them do require a waiver, but all equipment is supplied. I thought the food was pretty good. The first day we go there, we only had dinner and it was shrimp, steak, and rice. The second day we had hash browns, eggs, and pancakes for breakfast, shaved pork and cheese sandwich and fries for lunch, and beef stew with mashed potatoes and green beans for dinner. The third day, we had a similar breakfast, and a burrito and nacho bar for lunch. There was always a different dessert like blueberry pie, churros, donut holes. There was also always a salad bar for lunch and dinner and yogurt and fruit for breakfast. The staff served the drinks and went around picking up plates. They have a big worship center, enough for about 350 people with comfortable chairs, a big stage, good lighting, and a good audio and visual system. There is parking and bathrooms around the campus. There is a big hill leading to the cafeteria but they do have people driving golf carts to transport people in need up. They have also done a fantastic job of making every building and area handicapped accessible whether it be with elevators, ramps, and wide passageways. I would highly recommend this place.
