Courteous over the phone just as they were in person. Went to Admiral to make a copy of a restricted key. They explained clearly that I needed to bring them a card provided by the lock manufacturer in order to make a duplicate key. They told me the process, once said card was presented, would only take a minute, and that's how quick it really was. Additionally, the attendant told me the key would work perfectly since the copy is made to the manufacturer's specs and so it did. I feel they charged a fair price for the service rendered. As additional info. for potential clients: They charge a 3% fee for CC payments (But they tell you before they run your card... unlike some places where they just do it w/o your consent) and they are available for house calls. read more

Do NOT use this place!!! Marcelo (yes the owner himself) just refused to change our locks because we didn't know exactly what we needed and were "wasting his time". Huh? Isn't that the point of a locksmith? Also he insulted my 71 year old mother for asking questions and was downright angry and rude to me and my 1 year old. "Lose my number" was the direct quote. This place popped on Google as a nearby Astoria locksmith with 24 hour service...well, that's a lie because I've called 3 times now and been greeted with eternal ringing. No one has picked up. I hired these thieves to install an electronic lock for my apt. Should have known better, when I went to their store and was told that they did not stock any electronic locks. Makes all the sense in the world now. They obviously have no credit with their vendors. I dealt with this rude obnoxious guy named Andres who sent his father AKA "The Butcher" to install the lock that I had to purchase due to their obvious poor credit. The Butcher left and the lock was not working properly. When I spoke to Andres and asked him to come back and fix the lock his reply was, " If I have to come back and its not my fault, then I will have to charge you". The locked never worked and Andres obviously has no people skills and quite frankly is a low life moron. I called another locksmith who came immediately and installed the missing parts and fixed their installation. According to the local locksmith I used he told me that he gets many phone calls from people who have been screwed by Admiral and he fixes their work constantly. Do not use this company. Andres is a total dirt bag and his father is a butcher. I posted a review on their website with pictures so you can actually see their sub-par workmanship. Save your money and save your integrity. They are experts ripping people off and trying to make it your fault Hopefully your listening and will take your business somewhere else read more

I wrote a pretty stellar review for Admiral back in 2013, and nothing about that positive experience has changed. They typically close at 5pm, but I was able to come in at 5:10pm and get a total of 9 key copies done without any hassle. The woman who works behind the counter is still completely brilliant at her craft - I'd trust her to make a copy with her eyes closed. My favorite part of this business is that it's a long lost mom and pop shop. There is absolutely no reason to get your keys made anywhere else. And definitely NOT those machines that have been popping up at Rite Aid and some grocery stores. Admiral charges $1.50 per standard copy and if you experience any problems, they'll easily fix the copy for you. Those machines are triple the price and if you have a problem, what do you do? Call a toll free number? Send an angry facebook message? Admiral carries all those miscellaneous key and door related items, like keyrings (15-50 cents or so), keychains, locks, key boxes, door hinges, and those attachments for screen doors that prevent them from slamming. I'm going to quote a statement from my last review, because it still stands: "I can't attest to their other services, but they do offer locksmithing and whatnot. I also have no idea what the normal charge is for that type of service, but if they approach that kind of job with the same expertise and professionalism they do for their key copying, then I'd be happy to suggest them." read more

After trying unsuccessfully to install a new door lock in my apartment, I called Admiral for 'SOS'. Marcello, came early to help me with my installation project. He quickly diagnosed the problem as two parts being unaligned, they were not able to fit together to lock the door. Marcello took great pains and patience aligning the components until both parts fit and connected together beautifully from the inside to the outside of the door! I was also so grateful that he came over to my apartment so quickly, And he wore a mask!! This is my local neighborhood key place, and I find myself here surprisingly often. Blink and you might miss the charming, old-school shop, which is right by the Steinway/Broadway intersection in Astoria, and 'manned' by the hilarious and very helpful Roz. Tumblers can be tetchy, especially here in NYC with extreme temperature variations and extensive use. Before I moved up here from Florida, I had about a 50% success rate with keys I had copied at the local big-box home stores. I've gotten a lot of keys cut here at Admiral, and only one has ever proved to be a bit fussy (with a front door lock that I already knew to be a bit moody). Roz had sent me off with my fresh key copies and the invite to come right back if anything wasn't working right, and she was able to adjust the problem key and get it working smoothly in moments. The prices are old-school too! What other place charges a buck and change for a service they've rendered?? Beyond keys, they can help you with any kind of property-securing need you might have, and in NYC, don't we all have lots of those? read more

The woman at the counter was exceptionally, almost comically rude, but I figured she'd just had a bad day and sloughed it off. Got home -- NONE of the keys she made worked. I've lived in this neighborhood for almost thirty years, and always went to this locksmith. I always loved the way I was treated and the service I received. Well, that changed. I went there with what I thought to be a damaged cylinder. Roz, I guess the owner, took the cylinder, said it was damaged, that the key hole was enlarged, and that it needed to be replaced (I later learned that this was normal with use over time). She also told me about WD 40'ing the lock. I should have done this first, but instead, I trusted her and had the cylinder replaced and re keyed with my key. She sold it to me with no box, or key, or receipt. Well, I WD'd, the lock and used the old cylinder which worked great, but with the new one, not so much. So I stayed with the old one. I finally got a chance (family health issues) and went back, and I tried to get my money back for the new cylinder. Roz asked for the box, and receipt. I said she never gave them to me. She asked for the new keys, there were none of those as well being that she used my old key to re key the lock. She said that she never sells a lock without a box or keys, or a receipt, and that's exactly what she did. What a liar. She just stood there, smiled, saying the lock was mine and that she would not give me my money back. She did however open up and close the register a few times to try and taunt me with the money I wasn't going to get. Witch. I even offered to accept 100 dollars instead of the 170 that I paid, but she said that she would not re key a cylinder even though it was only used for testing. I always thought she was a little, to be polite, eccentric, but I never suspected she'd turn into a liar and a thief as well. Marcelo is very nice though, and told me that she was the boss and he was just an employee. As for you Roz, I happily leave you to Karma. read more

Went here to make spare keys, the guy was very nice. I had 6 keys made and 2 of them did not work. So I come back and there is a woman there and she says about 6 times that "they should work, I can't see why they wouldn't" like I was some kind of idiot that didn't know how to use a key, then she DOESNT make me new ones. She thins out the old ones and tells me to bring the lock in if they don't work. They did not work after this as well, and I am certainly not taking my lock out of my door and going back there a 3rd time because she is stingy and did not want to make me a working set. Almost two weeks ago, I had one of the worst mornings of my life, which was resolved by Admiral Lock and Key Company. I woke up on Friday morning only to be locked inside of my apartment. I had heard of such stories before, but I always thought that it was a myth. After panicking and trying everything imaginable, I climbed out of my window to try unlocking my door from the outside, using a screwdriver, using fluid, getting my super; etc...After climbing back inside via my window, I was able to call the nearest locksmith which happened to be this business. They responded calmly despite my panicked tone and assured me that this situation was common and it was a good thing that I didn't call the fire department, which is what most panicked residents do. Within twenty minutes, my locksmith was there and began asking me a couple of questions before drilling through my door and replacing everything. It turned out that my building had purchased a cylinder that wasn't the appropriate size for my frame, which would work temporarily but eventually, it wouldn't align properly. Hence, my situation. After asking a few more questions, the job was done. They gave me a new knob, lock; etc..., and I was ready to get on with my day. As to be expected, it was a bit costly; however, my building reimbursed me. If I ever have a similar situation again, I will be sure to call them. Lets hope not though... read more

Lucky me, I got locked out of my room in my apartment on Christmas Eve. To make it even better, we had no extra keys and neither did our building super. Tsk tsk. Thanks to google, I found this place, called them up and in 20 minutes a guy came, opened my door faster than a blink of an eye. It took me longer to look for a place than for him to open the door. Was just locked out of my own apartment today. Called them to help me open my door and they said they would be here in half an hour. Since I had an important dinner to attend to later, I also had my brother come all the way from Jersey with a spare key in case the locksmith could not open the door. After an hour and fifteen minutes, my brother who came ALL THE WAY FROM JERSEY, arrived with the spare and opened the door. Locksmith gets here 5 minutes after my brother comes and demands that I pay $95 for the service. Since he did drive here, I thought I would just have to pay him a tip of around $20. He then kept arguing that I should pay him a lot more. In the end I paid him the $20 and he left unhappily. Most unpleasant experience ever. TL:DR Go with another locksmith. read more

Used Admiral when I was unable to open up a Kryptonite U-lock bike lock. Very easy, timely company to work with: called in the morning & left message, they called back & said they could send someone that afternoon. Gentleman showed up, tried to unlock it, wasn't able to (lock was defective), used some fancy tool to just cut through the metal u-lock portion. Best part: I was able to pay him using my credit card since he had some fancy "Pay-Me" app on his cell phone...even got my receipt emailed to me! Quick. Fast. Effective. Top notch. Ros was friendly on the phone, Mike arrived when he said he would to the minute. He was quick and obviously an experienced professional. If you live in Queens, these folks are it. A previous locksmith told us it would be $800 to replace our old bottom lock (!).
