In the past, I depended on Madewell for consistently delivering on quality leather goods: tote bags for work, leather boots, loafers and cute casual bags. As an educator, those were my staples. They also had great smooth cotton graphics tees and my faves were when they'd collaborate with orgs such as the NY Botanical Gardens. Rummaging through the sale sections during off season is usually catch some great cardigans and blazers for the fall and great bandannas and jewelry to add a little razzle dazzle. Nowadays, the prices have risen astronomically. Little stackable earrings are now on average $58 and the clasps are weak and poorly made. One day after purchasing 2 pairs from this store, they're coming apart. Purchase a purse, the leather is trashy. A lot of the classics that myself and half the teachers at my school used to purchase have been removed from the rotation. Super annoying! Madewell, please get back to basics.
